Tennessee Aquarium

Tennessee Aquarium A remarkable journey from the mountains to the sea! Within our two buildings, you’ll trace the path of water from the mountains to the sea.

Come face-to-face with the fascinating native animals that live in our backyards and the amazing creatures that thrive in some of the most remote locations on Earth. We celebrate the rich biodiversity of the Southeast through our exhibits and are actively engaged in preserving and restoring that biodiversity through our work in the field.

During the recent influx of polar weather to the Southeast, temperatures outside the Aquarium have plunged to well below freezing, and ice has built up inside the Appalachian Cove Forest. Don't worry, though ... that's by design!

This gallery fluctuates naturally with external temperatures, so conditions inside are usually within eight degrees of ambient. However, North American River Otters have a thick pelt that allows them to pop in and out of the (comparatively balmy) 62-degree water without issue, even when rare cold snaps hit Chattanooga.

Volunteers are the heart of our aquarium! 💙 From caring for our animals, educating guests & working from behind the acrylic as divers. 🤿

It's Ditch your New Year's Resolution Day, the day when most people finally give up on their "New year, new me" aspirations. Don't be too hard on yourself if you're already wavering on your resolutions, though. The Horseshoe Crab hasn't changed since the Triassic Period. Why should you? Be like the Horseshoe Crab.

The Tennessee Aquarium will be closed Friday, Jan. 10, due to anticipated winter weather. The Aquarium will reopen at noon EST on Saturday, Jan. 11.

The weather closure will impact the weekend’s planned Animal Crossing: New Horizons Aquarium Tour stamp rally, during which guests can snap a photo with a character from the popular video game series and collect stamps in a themed booklet. That event has been rescheduled to Saturday, Jan. 25, and Sunday, Jan. 26. A second stamp rally will be held on Saturday, Feb. 22, and Sunday, Feb. 23.

Aquarium guests with pre-purchased tickets may rebook their visit online via a link in the ticket confirmation email. A video tutorial explaining the rebooking process is available at youtu.be/BMt-1LZxXWY

During the closure, animal care specialists will remain on site to ensure the uninterrupted care of the Aquarium’s living collection. This is standard practice whenever the Aquarium closes, whether the cause is unexpected or an anticipated event (Thanksgiving and Christmas).

Chattanooga visitors can see weather conditions downtown through the Aquarium’s 24-hour we**am at tnaqua.org/live/chattanooga-weather/

Even during inclement weather, Aquarium fans can check in on the residents of the River Journey and Ocean Journey buildings through other in-exhibit we**ams, such as a live feed from Penguins’ Rock at tnaqua.org/live/penguins-rock/
