As the temperatures get hotter in your state remember your water company will start doing Flushes to combat the bacteria growth in the water system.
You have to remember to use at least 3-4X dose of Prime or Safe (dechlorinator) to combat this.. This is the most common issue in fishkeeping when using "TAP" water..
the water also has less dissolved oxygen in it when it gets hotter.
The water company only is supposed to care about the water chemistry for humans.... nothing else.
so regardless of where you live please use more dechlorinator than the instructions on the label Say.. No one is liable for your loss of fish. no one is to blame.. its just a matter of using more.. the label on Seachem prime specifically says the dosage to use in higher contaminated water..
You have Chlorine, Ammonia or Chloramine. all of these chemicals will burn the gills of fish. Fish use their gills to pull out the oxygen from water to "breathe" these Chemicals BURN the gills and basically cauterize them. this makes it very difficult for the fish to breathe and they can basically suffocate. it usually happens very quickly during or after water change..
Fish typically go to the bottom and start breathing heavy.. this is the "suffocating" part.. you can add more dechlorinator and stressguard to help the situation but the damage is done..

These fish may need up to a few weeks to recover depending on the percentage of toxins they were subjected to.. some fish will perish over the next few days as that damage takes its toll on them..

Its one of the saddest most frustrating parts of fish keeping and has happened to almost everyone at some point in time.

SeaChem Prime or safe is SO CHEAP in comparison to anything else in your tank there's no reason not to 3-4X dose it year round.. Just write in black marker on the Bottle 3X dose.. that way you are reminded every water change to add more than recommended.. doing this will Dramatically decrease the likely hood of this happening again.
