Beach weather is here, and many of our canine companions love adventuring in the surf and the sand just as much as we do! Here are some tips to keep your pet safe so you can all have fun.
📋 Check the rules before you go. Some beaches have time or date restrictions for when dogs can play, and some do not allow dogs at all.
💧Make sure your pup has access to plenty of fresh water and do your best to keep them from drinking seawater.
🏖 Provide your dog with a shady spot to get out of the hot sun and rest. Some pups get overexcited and don't know when it's time to chill, so you may have to help them make that choice.
🌡Watch closely for signs of heatstroke - rapid panting, increased heart rate, excessive drooling, dry/bright red gums and tongue - even in the cooler parts of the day.
🐾 Protect their paws. The sand can get hot enough to burn their paw pads, and the surf can wash up dangerous things like broken seashells, glass, and jellyfish.
🌊 Keep an eye on the water conditions...rough waves and strong currents can make swimming dangerous.
🏝 Do your best to keep your dog from eating sand or items they find on the beach. These things could cause a range of issues from vomiting and diarrhea to life-threatening bowel obstruction.
💦 Rinse your dog at the end of the day. This can help protect them from ingesting sand and salt as they try to lick themselves clean, and it can help keep their skin from becoming irritated.
💉 Ensure your pup is up to date on vaccines before taking them to an area that may put them into contact with other, unknown dogs.
🧑‍⚕️ Seek veterinary care right away if you think your pet is showing signs of heatstroke or other symptoms of illness or injury.

Fourth of July is right around the corner!!
Here are a few tips to keep your furry friends safe and calm during fireworks:
🐾 Take your pet for a long walk before dark so that they are tired and and can relax when they get home but make sure they can’t slip their collar or harness in case some are celebrating early
🐾Update your pet's microchip and tag so you can be reached easily if they slip away
🐾Closing windows and curtains can help drown out the noise of fireworks as well as turning on the tv or some music
🐾Leave pets at home if you are going to a fireworks display
