🤩TAKE A LOOK AT PAPI AND TESSIE🤩

As a reminder: Papi and Tessie came to training to address some huge issues, including major dog reactivity/aggression, human reactivity/aggression including a bite history, serious anxiety requiring medication, several serious fights between the two dogs, resource guarding, and a lack of boundaries.

We spent our time training over the past several weeks not just focusing on obedience, they have had a few lessons before and knew some basics, but instead focusing on their brains. They NEEDED to see the world differently and they NEEDED to see each other differently. Their relationship was very tense and full of conflict and competition and they didn’t view their owners as leaders, leading to the two dogs being very stressed, anxious, and frustrated. The family struggled to walk the dogs together because the reactivity was horrible and was amplified when together, further damaging their relationship.

Now, these dogs are so dang HAPPY. They’re calm, they’re confident, and they’re just plain thrilled to participate. Again, our focus wasn’t on perfect, flawless obedience, but rather the mental state of the dogs while they’re together or separate, home or away.

We’ve been doing barn hunt with them with our friends at (updates on that to follow!) to help build drive, focus, confidence, help with resource guarding, and to provide a good outlet for their high prey drives, and each week the trainers commented about how much more relaxed they seemed. Their confidence absolutely sky-rocketed (plus, they’re naturals!).

It was such an honor to work with these dogs and their family and help them to enjoy life the way they should be enjoying it! Great work, Papi & Tessie, I am SO so so proud of you guys 🐾

We are bringing back LESSONS!!! We will be offering some AMAZING lesson packages at our facility in Chesaning. We have packages for puppies, adults, AKC title chasers, and more. Not interested in taking an in-person lesson, and wanting something virtual instead? We’ve got you covered there too! We’re offering Zoom lessons to allow you to pick a trainer’s brain and written lesson plans for those who want to handle the bulk of training themselves.

Lessons are each an hour long, totally private, and personalized. We don’t offer group classes, so you don’t have to compete for your trainer’s attention or try to keep up with the rest of the class. We are offering basic obedience lessons for puppies and adults as well as AKC lessons to earn titles such as AKC S.T.A.R. puppy, AKC Canine Good Citizen, and more. Even better, discounts are available on more advanced packages for completing a package, so you can save money while making your pup as obedient as they can be!

Refreshers are an AMAZING opportunity to give your pup a productive boarding stay while you’re away. I am blown away every single day by the love and support I’ve received from not just the community, but from dog owners around the state who have trusted me with their dogs over the years. It has been SUCH an incredible honor and I can’t wait to continue this journey!

THIS!!!

We get waaaay too many people who want their dog to just simply do everything they say whenever they say it with absolutely no reward. While it’s crucial that our dogs listen to what we say and do what we tell them to do even when they don’t want to, it’s so important that they get rewarded, they feel advocated for, and the relationship is fair. I don’t want my dogs to obey me, I want them to listen to me. 🐾

This fall weather has been so beautiful for Papi and Tessie during their outings!! We have spent so much time outside working around huge triggers and focusing on their confidence, impulse control, and healing their relationship. Their hard work has been very evident in their results! 🧡🤎💛❤️

Papi & Tessie make the goofiest faces 🤣🤣

These two have such huge personalities, but they’re soooo different. That’s why it’s crucial we spend time training with them individually before bringing them together! This extra step to address the dogs’ individual goals and struggles is CRUCIAL to having a cohesive household. For example, Papi struggled with anything that required him to be still, where Tessie struggled with anything that required her to focus while moving. Papi excelled at heel where Tessie excelled at down. Once their individual needs are addressed, then we can build their relationship and work as a team! 🐾

I’m so, so thrilled to finally announce the secret I’ve been holding on to for about 2 years now… we have a facility!! 🐾

This little space is something my family and I have worked SO hard on to bring to life and make our own. I wanted a safe, comfy place to train dogs and meet families, and we created it!

So what does this mean for Pawsonal Training?

Will dogs live here during their stay? NO!! Dogs will NEVER be staying here. Every dog in training still lives with me in my home as that is the SAFEST and SMARTEST decision for any dog being sent away for training (especially those with anxiety, fear, etc). This is just a place we can work on rainy days, or to safely practice some beginner off leash obedience.

Are you a kennel? Not even close! I still keep the number of dogs in my care very limited to ensure each dog has the attention they deserve for their training, health, and well-being.

Will I still travel to clients homes? I can! Going forward, drop offs and turnovers for board and trains, refreshers, and boarding stays will occur here by default, however I will still happily travel across the state upon request!

Are there set hours? Not really! Everything is by appointment only. I will be in and out as I train dogs and work, but meet and greets, drop offs, turnovers, etc will all be scheduled to ensure each client has my full, undivided attention.

Where is it? In Chesaning, MI on the corner of M-57 and M-52 across from the gas station!

I’m so excited to continue this path of growth with all of you! Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your support over the years, this is only the beginning! Introducing our newest board and train students: Papi & Tessie!! They’re enrolled in a 6 week board and train program to help address several problematic behaviors individually, and because they have gotten into several fights.

Papi is a 6 year old male shepherd/hound mix. Papi gets along for the most part with other dogs, but he has had some anxiety, reactivity, and even aggression toward some dogs. He’s a sweet lover boy with humans as well, but he likes his space and he has bitten people who have entered their home before. His reactivity and anxiety seem to be higher when around his sister, and he’s on daily anxiety meds to help manage it. Through training, his individual goals involve improving his reactivity toward people and dogs, minimizing his barking, building his confidence to help improve his anxiety, crate training since he developed a habit of breaking out of his crate at home, and improving his tendency toward resource guarding around both dogs and other people.

Tessie is a 5 year old female pittie/boxer mix. Tessie is fairly reactive toward other dogs on walks and reactive from inside the house. She will bark and lunge at dogs and has gotten into fights with a couple dogs in the family. She’s very sweet with people, but gets overly excited and tends to jump and invade personal space. Through training, her individual goals include improving her impulse control and reactivity toward other dogs, stopping her jumping habit, teaching her to have manners regarding personal space, crate training as she began peeing and pooping in her crate at home, and improve her overall listening skills and obedience.

The main issue between the two dogs is competition. There’s a ton of competition in their relationship which is causing a lot of conflict. The dogs compete for space, attention, rewards, affection, and the pushier dog wins the battle. This has led to several fights as tensions rise and is obviously dangerous and unacceptable. We need to advocate for them and teach them that it’s not their responsibility to manage the other dog. Both dogs have been through some prior training, but it’s time to take it seriously and put it to good use! 🐾

For those of you interested in barn hunt while your pup comes for training or boarding, but unsure what it looks like, check out one of Oliver’s runs during his board and train! His task was to 1) find the hidden rat 2) put all 4 feet on a bale and 3) go through the tunnel.

Oliver added on 3 sessions of barn hunt lessons to his 4 week board and train stay and he did SO well with them! His first session he was a bit nervous and unsure of the critters (Oliver was a nervous, anxious boy in general so this came at no surprise), but he quickly fell in love with the game and did so well. This gave him a great outlet for his prey drive, helped to build his confidence, and challenged him mentally which helped ease his anxiety. His weekly barn hunt lessons quickly turned into his favorite outings!

We now offer lessons in both barn hunt and scent work taught by our friends at for any dog who comes through our board and train program during their training or boarding stays! Let us know if you’d like us to add these on to your stays and see how your pup does 🐾

June is a graduate!!!

June originally came to training enrolled in our 3 week program, but quickly after her arrival we knew we needed more time to work through some of her more serious, deeply rooted issues in a way that would be less stressful for her AND more impactful overall.

Behavior modification is not a quick fix, and the longer we are able to work with the dogs to address the reasoning behind their behaviors, the better the outcome will be! It’s about soooo much more than simply teaching obedience, we really work hard to change the dog’s entire mindset and way of viewing the world. June was so overstimulated on walks and had so much anxiety that cars and other wheeled objects immediately pushed her over the edge to the point of aggression. This even began to affect her mental health and behavior inside the home as the sound of a car, lawn mower, etc outside triggered her to jump on the windows barking and reacting. We focused on teaching her ways to cope with her anxiety, reduced the amount of things she needed to control, and taught her how to be calm and focused amidst the chaos.

She did so well with her family back at home and, though she definitely has some residual triggers in their busy neighborhood, we got to address them head on and in-person to make for some lasting results. Her family did so well with her obedience and I know they’re going to continue to succeed!
