She has been with us since Thanksgiving and is looking for an amazing home of her own.

Meet Peppa

Update 8/10/24 Peppa (previously known as Coal has been adopted)

Peppa is a 15lb spayed female beagle (maybe chihuahua) mix estimated to be around 7-9 years old. She is up for adoption through Beagles to the Rescue in Chesapeake, VA (our adoption area is within 1.5 hours of zip code 23322).

We called her Peppa since on arrival she was pink like a pig, had no fur and likes to snort.

Peppa is a sweet cuddly girl, she is the perfect mix of wanting to be held and doing her own thing. She loves to go for walks, and is great with other dogs, cats and kids. She rides well in the car, is crate trained, and has great house manners. She loves to sunbathe outside, look out the window, play with other dogs or cats, and eat. She is very food motivated and has been easy to train.

Peppa was surrendered to BTTR after her owner died and the owner’s family was not willing or able to take care of her with her allergies. Her new family will need to be prepared to keep up with medicated baths, giving pills, and taking her to the vet if she is having a flare up. She is doing so much better than she was when she arrived with us a few months ago (see before and after photos). We are working with a veterinary dermatology specialist so her treatment plan may change. She is currently taking inexpensive medications daily, and being bathed weekly. We would be happy to talk with you more about her allergies and treatment.

She is fully vaccinated, spayed, microchipped, heartworm negative, however she is positive for Ehrlichia (a tick borne illness) but she is not showing any symptoms, has received treatment, and has been positive for several years. Most dogs never have show any symptoms and have normal lives.

Peppa has such an amazing personality and would love a place in your heart and on your sofa. If you would like to learn more about Peppa give us a call at 757-447-7773 or check out our website at https://www.beaglestotherescue.org/bttr-adoption-info

Meet Dusty!

10/27 Update: Adopted

Dusty is a 5y old 32lb neutered male beagle up for adoption in Chesapekae, VA

Dusty is a sweet happy guy looking for a place to call his own after his owner became sick and had to surrender him to a shelter. Dusty loves to play with toys, be outside, be brushed, go for walks, and lay on the sofa of bed. He rides well in the car, house trained, gets along well with cats, dogs and kids.

His ideal home would have a fenced in yard to explore and sunbathe, take him on walks, and a dog friend or person to play with him and his toys.

He is neutered, heartworm negative, up to date on vaccines, microchipped, and just had a clean bill of health from the vet. He is a little bit on the heavy side and we are working to help him slim down.

Dusty is available through Beagles to the Rescue our adoption area is within 1.5 hours of Chesapekae, VA 23322. For more information on adopting Dusty call/text 757-447-7773 or check out our website at

Sandy at Isle of Wight County Animal Services needs your help!

His shelter is full and he and his friends are looking for adopters, or rescues to help them open up some kennel space.

Sandy is a 6y old male 27lb taller beagle. He was surrendered to shelter because he was scared of loud noises and didn’t want to hunt. He is learning to walk on a leash and has come so far and he keeps a clean kennel. He is a timid guy who enjoys company and would benefit from being out of the hustle and bustle of the shelter. He is heartworm negative but has not yet been neutered.

If you are interested call the shelter at 757-365-6318

9/1 Update Adoption Pending

Meet Scrabble!

Scrabble is an approximately 10 year old spayed female beagle looking for a new place to call home. She is 25-30lbs medium-low energy and LOVES other dogs, cats and other animals. She is a typical beagle and loves to sniff and explore and enjoys being outside so a fenced in yard is required. She uses a dog door and walks nicely on a leash. We think she was a house pet that some how found her self lost and at the shelter as a senior since she had been spayed as a younger dog. She is heartworm negative, up to date on vaccines and just saw the vet for a check up. If you are interested in learning more about Scrabble give us a call at 757-447-7773!

Update 7/14: she has found a dog! Thanks for everyone who offered suggestions.

Instead of our usual dog for adoption post today we have an adopter looking for a dog post!

We have a wonderful lady looking for the perfect dog to join her home, she has adopted two BTTR begales in the past who have since crossed the rainbow bridge. She is very lonely without a 4 pawed companion so we are reaching out to our other rescue and shelter friends to help her find the perfect dog. She is located in Chesapekae, VA

She is looking for a Adult or senior dog, she has a very nice large fenced in back yard (6ft) fence with a dog door. She does not have a preference on breed but is more looking for the right personality to fit with her lifestyle. Here is what we are looking for: short hair or lower maintenance medium haired dog, around 30lbs or less (to fit through current dog door). She uses a mobility scooter to get around so it’s important that the dog is housebroken and not afraid of the scooter. Low to medium energy dog that would a good companion to a senior person who is home most of the time. Friendly and outgoing would be a big plus, no other pets currently in the home.

BTTR and the lady’s son are willing to help get the dog to and from the vet since she is no longer able to drive. The son is local, has a fenced in yard, and is willing to adopt the dog if his mom is no longer able to keep her for any reason. She is an amazing dog mom and has been working with animals for 50+ years.

If you know of a dog that might be a good fit please reach out to us here at BTTR we are checking local shelters as well. You can call us at 757-447-7773, Facebook message us or email us at [email protected]

Update on Zach

Zach scared us by coughing up some blood and needed an ER visit. We had him stabilized and had an echocardiogram preformed by our regular vet to ensure he was healthy enough to continue with heartworm treatment.

We got him settled in at a foster home where he loves to carry around his stuffy toys. Zach had his first heartworm injection on 5/16 and is doing well. He is on crate rest and is feeling very sleepy but happy to be safe and loved. His foster family is hoping to adopt him after his heartworm treatment.

He isn’t out of the woods yet so please keep him in your thoughts and prayers. We appreciate all your support

Hey it’s me Zach….Can you help me and my friends?

We are in need of some pate or ground type canned or wet dog food. Some of us need medication and we have tricked the humans into giving us canned food by “hiding” our meds in it. We aren’t picky on brand or flavor but we have some on our Amazon or Chewy wish lists. They will ship it right to BTTR or you can donate in person to us in Norfolk or Chesapeake. Call or text our humans at 757-447-7773 for addresses to donate in person.

Zach, 5y old neutered male beagle around 20lbs up for adoption in Chesapeake, VA through Beagles to the Rescue.

4/30 Update Zach has gone to a foster home who hopes to adopt him after his heartworm treatment we are so excited for him.

4/12 Update Zach is still available! His ideal adopter is looking for a cuddle buddy, is within around 45 min of Chesapeake, VA 23322 and doesn’t have any vacations or trips coming up during his heartworm treatment (May 15-June 30th). This sweet boy would love to come cuddle up and be your little spoon!

Zach came to BTTR in rough shape but is now ready for adoption. Zach is an absolute cuddle bug and would love to be your little spoon! He is medium-low energy, walks well on a leash, rides nicely in a car, and loves plushie toys. He will use a dog door and does well with other dogs and cats. He can be a bit of an attention hog so any other dogs will need to be okay with that.

Zach is neutered, had a recent dental cleaning, up to date on vaccines, dewormed, microchipped, on flea/tick prevention, and is heartworm positive. Zach will be starting heartworm treatment on May 15th (paid for by BTTR) but his adopters will need to bring him to our vet in Chesapeake for treatment.

If you are interested in learning more about Zach check out the links below then call us at 757-447-7773

BTTR needs your help

Update on Zach! Zach’s medical care was fully funded thanks to all of our wonderful supporters! See updated photos and his adoption information in the comments!

Meet Zach a 5y old 19lb neutered male beagle. Zach is a little stocky guy and was probably a hunting dog. He was found as a stray with 2 other dogs and brought to Isle of Wight County Animal Services.

Zach has had a rough life, he was covered in fleas and ticks, infested with hook and whip worms, and is positive for heartworms and for Ehrlichia, a tick borne illness. His teeth where severely dirty and 10 rotten teeth had to be extracted. Zach has hair loss and dry skin from malnutrition and exposure to the elements. All of this would have been preventable with regular vet care and medication

Despite all of the neglect Zach has endured he is the sweetest happiest guy. You can tell when he wakes up by the thumping of his tail, he is just glad his rescue wasn't a dream. He is cuddly and loves any attention he can get.

Zach is now safe at BTTR but his vet bills are piling up. If you can help support Zach in his heartworm treatment we would be forever grateful. You can donate via Facebook or through our website (see link below)

Zach’s Vet Bills so Far: (Photos of bills included)
$812.20 for neuter and dental cleaning/extractions
$64.94 for f***l test and 3 rounds of dewormer
$498.38 for heartworm prep, bloodwork, X-rays and medications
Quote for $487.23-$645.26 to complete Heartworm treatment

Totaling a whopping $1810.75 on the low end, this includes our rescue discount. BTTR covers all the vetting cost of our dogs and we charge a flat $220 adoption fee.

Please help us help more dogs like Zach, any donation is helpful. If you are interested in adopting Zach please send us an email at [email protected] or call at 757-447-7773

Please be sure to give your dog flea/tick & heartworm prevention and have regular vet exams to prevent your dog from suffering like Zach.

Zach has arrived!!

We picked up sweet boy Zach from Isle of Wight County Animal Services today. Zach is estimated to be 5 years old but he has a very rough life. Zach and 2 other beagles where found as strays. Today Zach was neutered, and had 10 teeth removed due to severe dental disease. Poor Zach is also heartworm positive and will need to start treatment soon. As you can see from his face and ears Zach has some skin issues and his fur is dry and patchy.

Despite all of this he is so sweet and cuddly. He is so pleased to have a soft comfy bed and a full belly. Zach’s vet bill for today was $814 (neuter, bloodwork, and dental cleaning/extractions) Zach will be seeing the vet again on 3/14 for a heartworm treatment evaluation. Heartworm treatment will be another $800-$1000.

If you would like to make a donation to Zach’s care check out the link below.

https://www.beaglestotherescue.org/donations

We are hoping to place Zach up for adoption once we have a heartworm treatment plan. BTTR will cover the costs of Zach’s care as part of his adoption. If you are interested in fostering or adopting Zach when he is ready call us at 757-447-7773 or email us at [email protected]

Our Story

We are Beagles to the Rescue a non-profit animal rescue located in Chesapeake, VA. Our beagles come from shelters, hunt clubs, stray pickups, and families across south eastern Virginia and north eastern North Carolina. We are a no-kill organization placing dogs as indoor pets in a home that matches them perfectly.

We are a 100% volunteer run organization and we are funded solely by donations. We are not a traditional brick and mortar shelter, our dogs live in foster homes or at an open boarding kennel (think giant dog park). The kennel has acres of fenced in grassy fields for the dogs to run and play on while searching for a new home.

Visit our website www.beaglestotherescue.org to see all of our adoptable dogs, fill out a pet match form, or if you need help re-homing a dog. We are unable to return Facebook messages or reply to questions posted on our page or left in comments. To ensure a quick reply please contact us by phone or email.
