PSA:CHECK YOUR DOG’S NAILS

Nails affect your dog’s health more than you know.

1) Nails that are too long can cause a dog to slip and fall more easily. Long nails cause a dog to place their feet differently, in a “plantigrade” position. In other words the nails “push” the dogs toes up and the “heel” comes down to balance, placing strain on the muscles and ligaments in the legs. Older, arthritic dogs find these changes to be particularly uncomfortable.

2) Over-grown nails will change the biomechanics of the digits and could lead to arthritis in the toe.

3) If a dog’s nails are too long they can catch them on anything from carpet fibers to branches and rocks outside. This is especially common if your dog has dewclaws. If they pull hard enough the outer casing of the nail can be ripped off exposing the quick and nerve endings. This can be quite painful and it is common for these types of injuries to become infected.

4) Damage to Paw Pads: If a nail, especially the dewclaws or “thumbs”, grows too long they often curl around on themselves and can grow into the pad. The sharp end of the nail pierces through the tough layer of skin over the pads and creates an open, ulcerated wound that is very swollen and painful as well as usually infected.

Weather is starting to warm up. Please be mindful when walking your dogs. The ideal temperature to walk your dog is around 68°F. Anything above this temperature can create discomfort for your pet, and temperatures above 75°F can lead to dehydration and even heatstroke.

Also, as it warms up outside, the sidewalk temperatures can be up to 59°F higher than the air temperature (in direct sunlight, with no wind and low humidity), and dogs can burn their paw pads. It only takes a minute of walking on a 124°F sidewalk for your dog’s paws to burn.

Please share to help find a home.

Meet Raven!

Raven is a surrender, who had a rough and unfair start in life. Taken way too you g from the mother and then bred way too young.

Ravens life consisted of just being in a crate.
When I got her she was extremely afraid and aggressive because she didn’t trust people. She has warmed up to me and is the absolute most incredible dog, she is loyal, loving, sweet and funny. I got her to the point where she trusted people as long as I was there, but when she got spayed it sent her back wards not trusting some random people.

Raven needs to go to a home that is willing to put in the few days work to gain her trust and are responsible owners that will guide her when around other people.

Raven gets along fine with other cats and with neutral or submissive dogs.

She knows sit, down, place, heel, free, come, her name, prison( crate) where’s your baby( stuffed animals) and she helps me clean up by taking every dog toy and stuffed animal I give her to her crate then comes back for the next one.

Raven will love whatever family that takes her, as long as they put in the correct training and decompression time that it will take.

The last family that wanted her, just simply wanted to smother her and coddle her right away, which made her become protective of herself. She needs decompression time as Iam the most positive thing she’s known and is now ready to be rehomed.

I love this dog but if I kept every dog I rescued I would have 83.

Raven does great running loose leash next to a bike too and she loves swift paws. I really hope she goes to a home that will put her in fastcat or lure competitions.

Raven will only go to a home that can responsibly afford a dog and provide her with enough physical and mental stimulation a Huskey requires. I don’t want to see her go into another bad and irresponsible situation

Up to date on all shots and needs the 2nd and 3rd lepto booster
Spayed 17 Jan 23
2yrs old
Located in Hampton VA but willing to travel a few hours for the right home.
