PSA: If you are a dog owner, please read. I just saw somebody walking their dogs noon time . 😩😞🥵🥵🥵🥵😳

Walking dogs in hot weather requires extra caution due to the risk of overheating and heatstroke. It's crucial to avoid walking during the hottest part of the day, opt for shady routes, and ensure your dog stays hydrated by providing plenty of water breaks. Watch for signs of overheating like excessive panting, drooling, or stumbling, and be mindful of hot pavement that can burn paws.

❌ Avoid Walking Your Dog When:

🔥 Air Temperature is Above 85°F (29°C)
• Dogs can overheat quickly, especially flat-faced breeds (like pugs, bulldogs), older dogs, and puppies.
• Heatstroke can occur in just minutes.

🥵 Pavement Temperature is Too Hot
• Pavement can be 40–60°F hotter than the air temperature.
• Do the “7-second test”: Place the back of your hand on the pavement. If you can’t hold it there for 7 seconds, it’s too hot for your dog’s paws.

🌞 Between 10 AM – 6 PM in Summer
• These are typically the hottest hours of the day.
• Opt instead for early morning or late evening walks.

💨 There’s No Shade or Breeze
• Lack of airflow increases your dog’s risk of overheating, especially on humid days.

✅ Best Times to Walk in Hot Weather:
• Early Morning (Before 8 AM)
• Late Evening (After 7 PM)
• Walk in shaded areas, on grass, or bring booties for paw protection.

🔍 Watch for Signs of Overheating:
• Excessive panting
• Drooling
• Lethargy
• Red gums
• Vomiting or collapse (Emergency!)

Dogs are evolving!

https://www.facebook.com/share/1CWs3HWenL/?mibextid=wwXIfr

A groundbreaking study from Sweden’s Linköping University has confirmed what dog lovers have long suspected: the bond between dogs and humans is deeply biological. The key? Oxytocin — the hormone responsible for love and trust.

As wolves evolved into domesticated companions over thousands of years, dogs became genetically tuned to this hormone. Those with specific oxytocin receptor variants are more likely to seek human help, show affection, and thrive in modern environments.

But today, scientists say we’re entering a third wave of domestication — one shaped not by survival or status, but by empathy and adaptability.

Modern service dogs are at the forefront of this transformation. Unlike their ancestors bred for guarding or herding, these dogs are biologically and behaviorally wired to be calm, social, and deeply attuned to humans — even from puppyhood.

This new evolution is reshaping canine genetics in real time. As our cities grow and lifestyles change, so too must our dogs — not just in behavior, but in biology.

➡️ The future of dogs isn’t just about how they look. It’s about how they feel.

PSA:CHECK YOUR DOG’S NAILS

Nails affect your dog’s health more than you know.

1) Nails that are too long can cause a dog to slip and fall more easily. Long nails cause a dog to place their feet differently, in a “plantigrade” position. In other words the nails “push” the dogs toes up and the “heel” comes down to balance, placing strain on the muscles and ligaments in the legs. Older, arthritic dogs find these changes to be particularly uncomfortable.

2) Over-grown nails will change the biomechanics of the digits and could lead to arthritis in the toe.

3) If a dog’s nails are too long they can catch them on anything from carpet fibers to branches and rocks outside. This is especially common if your dog has dewclaws. If they pull hard enough the outer casing of the nail can be ripped off exposing the quick and nerve endings. This can be quite painful and it is common for these types of injuries to become infected.

4) Damage to Paw Pads: If a nail, especially the dewclaws or “thumbs”, grows too long they often curl around on themselves and can grow into the pad. The sharp end of the nail pierces through the tough layer of skin over the pads and creates an open, ulcerated wound that is very swollen and painful as well as usually infected.
