🐸Meet Kermit!🐸

He is our outreach coordinator's absolute favorite dog 😍 Why? Glad you asked...Kermit is resilient. Despite everything that he's been through, he still loves people and adores cuddling. Kermit could have easily shutdown or been too scared to give anyone a chance but the minute he came through the door all he wanted was a tennis ball and a cuddle 🥹🥰

😀Finally! A Nice Saturday!😀

The pups have been anxious to get back out on Snout and About and it looks like the weather is finally on our side. Radar is especially excited about the thought of an adventure! Radar is a 2-year-old pittie-mix who is as affectionate as he is playful! He is often described as energetic but chill, lovable, and obedient. He is great with kids, gets along with other dogs, loves walks, and enjoys car rides. Radar is never without a toy but will excitedly drop them in exchange for belly rubs. You can take Radar or one of his friends out for Snout and About tomorrow at Chesapeake Animal Services🥰

The pups enjoy walks, checking out dog-friendly businesses and restaurants, or just chilling out and enjoying a car ride. Pup cups are always appreciated😋

No experience is necessary to participate in Snout and About and children are welcome! We will provide you with a backpack full of the supplies you will need for your adventure. All you need to supply is love 💞

🐾Meet Scout and Trapper!🐾

Can you guess what these cute hounds have in common? Heartworms🥺

Scout and Trapper are just two of the dozens of dogs that come into our care with heartworms annually. Sadly, this adds another barrier to successful adoption. But that’s where you come in…😃

You can help pay for their Heartworm treatment through our Guardian Angel program. You can donate to the medical fund or select a specific dog to sponsor. The Guardian Angel program pays for medical care such as advanced blood work, x-rays, treatments, and surgeries. All donated money is used in the direct care of the animals who need it, and the costs are not forwarded to adopters.

😇Be an angel for dogs like Scout and Trapper and give them a chance at the lives they deserve!😇

💕Meet Eeyore!💕

This 7-year old American Bulldog-mix is as sweet as can be! Eeyore is a great leash walker and really perks up when he sees other dogs. He is very gentle when taking treats and just as gentle when playing with his toys. We may not be sure of his exact breed, but we are positive that he is 100% couch potato. Eeyore's permanent sad face all but disappears when he's given tail scratches and cuddles. If you're looking for a low-energy, cuddle bug, Eeyore is the pup for you!🥰

❄️Kitty It's Cold Outside!❄️

This cutie was found in the engine of a car on Friday morning. Luckily, he was not injured, and a citizen brought him into the shelter after hearing his little cries.

As colder temperatures take over Hampton Roads, animals will be searching for warm places to sleep. This can often lead to adult cats or kittens taking refuge in a vehicle's engine.

This winter, remember:
🚗Honk your horn or tap on the hood before starting your car.
The goal is to make noise and then give animals an opportunity to flee, so tap your hood or honk your horn — it just might save a life 💕

❤️🐾Warm Hearts and Cozy Paws🐾❤️

Thank you to Portsmouth Public Library for hosting a Cozy Paws event for the animals at Chesapeake Animal Services this past Saturday. Under the watchful eye of Remi, the shelter’s longest resident, participants made blankets for all our wonderful pets. The library also did a donation drive, sending much-appreciated goodies back to the shelter for Remi and all her friends🥰

💕Remi is a 2-year-old pittie-mix who was surrendered to the shelter 116 days ago. She is a staff/volunteer favorite and a regular for Snout and About. Her fantastic manners, love of children, and sociability have made her the go-to dog for outreach events such as Cozy Paws. As much as we love her, we'd love to see her in a happy home even more💕
