Meet Baccara, the energetic 2-year-old mixed-breed pup. She has great leash manners, will ‘sit’ politely for treats, and can also catch snacks mid-air. She loves to play, especially when her human is actively engaged with the play activity. Baccara will fetch and (almost) always brings the toy back. She is an affectionate pup who will lean in when she’s looking for pets and scratches. Baccara would be a great fit for an active home or anyone who likes hiking, camping, or running. 🌷Spring Forward!🌷

Stray companion animals with microchips are far more likely to be reunited with their owners than those without. Microchips are permanent as well as tamper-proof, but the information must be current for you to be contacted when your pet goes missing. Daylight Saving Time is a great time to remember to check your pets microchip information and update it if necessary!

🤨Why is That Dog Back?🤔

Seeing a dog that has been returned to a shelter or rescue multiple times may give you paws when considering adoption, but it shouldn’t! Dogs get returned to shelters and rescues for a variety of reasons. Allergies, loss or change of housing, medical issues, or the pet just wasn’t the right fit for that home. It does not mean that there is something wrong with the dog, in fact, it gives us more information to help them find the right home!😃

Input from the previous owner(s) is considered when applying adoption restrictions. Did the dog not get along with the cat🐈or was the dog afraid of small children👶? That information can help us pair the dog with the right adopter. The reason an animal was surrendered is also discussed in depth with potential adopters.

🐾Chesapeake Animal Services will ALWAYS take back their adopted animals regardless of the situation or the amount of time that has passed🐾

Take the time now to secure loose outdoor items such as patio furniture, trash cans, trampolines, and sports equipment. Stay clear of trees and other overhead hazards. Use caution while driving. Now is also a good time to check your fences and gates for any potential escape routes before letting your pets outside.
