✅ TRUE! George Washington wasn’t just the father of our country—he was also a proud dog dad! At his home, Mount Vernon, George Washington was known to have many breeds of dogs for working, hunting, and companionship. He was partial to hounds, and the AKC even credits him with the development of the American Foxhound breed!

❤️💙As you celebrate, don't forget to keep your pets indoors during fireworks and give them a safe, quiet place to decompress and relax. Things like white noise, Thunder Shirts, and pheromones can be easy and effective ways to keep the stress low for everyone. 💙❤️

July 4th is almost here and as pet owners, we know this can be a very stressful time for our nervous or sound-sensitive friends. In anticipation of fireworks, please follow these tips to keep your pet safe and at home.

🔒Check fences and gates – Make sure they’re secure and locked to prevent panic escapes.
🏡 Keep pets indoors – Create a safe, quiet space away from loud noises.
💊 Medications – Give your pets their anxiety medications as prescribed by your vet.
🆔 ID tags and microchips – Make sure all contact info is up to date.
🚫 Avoid leaving pets unattended outdoors, even in fenced yards.

Keeping Pet Loss Prevention in mind, let's do everything we can to keep our furry friends safe and comfortable as we celebrate the holiday!

We need your help - RIGHT NOW!

Our shelter is scheduled for some much-needed renovations, and we need to place 40 medium-to-large dogs into foster or adoptive homes by JULY 10! Can you help?

What you need to know:

- Fostering is easy and FREE!
- We provide provides supplies AND medical care to foster pets!
- We ask foster families to keep us up-to-date with photos and bios, to help find adoptive home for their foster pets!

Instead, dogs (like Jethro!) pant to release heat, while cats often groom themselves to regulate their body temperature through evaporation.
☀️As temperatures rise, it's easy for pets to overheat — especially during outdoor play. Make sure you always:
✅ Provide a shaded area for rest
✅ Keep fresh, cool water available
✅ Encourage regular breaks from activity

Next week we celebrate July 4th, which means Vital Vet Animal Hospital will be closed. We will be closed from June30th to July 6th. Please call TODAY if your pets need medication refills. The fireworks can be stressful so make sure you have enough of your pet's anxiety medications on hand to help keep them comfortable and safe.

Meet Star, a resident of the Xunantunich Mayan ruins in Belize. Star decided to join in on a yoga class that team member Sara was participating in! Star quickly became top-dog in the yoga class and lent a helping paw to help everyone find their center. We're sure Star is saying "Namaste!" on this International Yoga day!

🐾Happy , everyone! Today is OFFICIALLY the first day of Summer so its fitting that we are talking about the importance of hydration. 🐾
Today's Friday Fact is that some dogs won't naturally stop for a water break when their body needs it. Sometimes they have so much fun playing in the sun that they don't think to take a break. That's where you come in!

When you pack your water for a fun day out, pack some for your furry friend too. Bring a portable water bowl and set it up in a quiet, shaded area to encourage breaks from playtime. Just check out Pico here, off to find his water bowl on his favorite covered beach deck!
