TREE STUMPS IN COAL?

In 1918, coal miners marveled at a petrified tree stump encapsulated in a coal seam. A very vivid reminder of Noah's flood which washed it into its current sate. This isn't the first tree stump found in a coal seam. One was found and even discovered to be much younger than the oil deposits it was found in. The oil dated by evolutionists to be 250 million years or older but the tree just thousands of years. The earth is young.

And now for some feline philosophy ..

This week has been a difficult one as we have finally hit the point that arrives each year. The time during the height of kitten season when every rescue group is full and cannot take in any more cats. The time when adoptions are slow and people are surrendering their family pet for no other reason than that they don't want the inconvenience of finding a pet sitter while they go on vacation. The time that, despite having no avenues for placement, there are still so many urgent cats on the street, many of them abandoned pets who are amazing, friendly and who desperately want to be inside. That time of the year when every single day we are contacted about yet another litter of kittens.

This is the time when the "rubber really hits the road" for our kind of trappers. Trappers who lay awake at night dreading the idea of having to put a friendly cat back on the street for no other reason than there isn’t anywhere else for them to go. Trappers whose hearts hurt when they are trying to release a friendly cat who doesn't even want to leave the trap. Trappers who have tears running down their face as they drive away watching the cat in their rearview mirror. Trappers who know, all too well, about the numerous hardships and obstacles a cat living outdoors has to face on a daily basis such as lack of food, lack of shelter, heatstroke or frostbite. Trappers who are aware of the threats outdoor cats face from being attacked by other animals and from the evil that humans can do. Trappers who have witnessed, firsthand, the terrible proof that cats do not thrive outside, despite what some folks like to claim. Trappers who somehow, someway, must find the strength to continue this soul-crushing work because if we stop doing what we are doing, the problem will only continue to grow. Trappers who must find the inner strength to force themselves to continue trapping cats and getting them fixed, while accepting the fact that for the next month or two, their hearts are going to be hurting a lot as many friendly cats go back outside. Trappers who try to find a bit of comfort in knowing that the lives of those cats will be incrementally better because of being sterilized, vaccinated and flea treated and that future generations of cats will have been prevented.

Spay/neuter your pets and don't give unfixed kittens away. Don't kick your cat out of the house or leave them behind when you move. Offer to foster for a local rescue group. If you see stray cats on the street, find the resources to get them fixed. Step up to become part of the solution and to make the world a better place for cats. Don't turn a blind eye or just report a situation and expect somebody else to handle it. Our group of approximately 25 incredible VOLUNTEER trappers cannot handle everything. We need more people to work with us and inconvenience themselves a bit....it truly does take a village.

Prayer for Peace, Memorial Day
May 22, 1950

A Proclamation
Since war is the world's most terrible scourge, we should do all in our power to prevent its recurrence.
It was the hope of mankind that with the cessation of hostilities of World War II the way would be open to founding a permanent peace. Instead, that war has left the world in a state of continued unrest. Accordingly, we feel the need of turning in humble suppliance to Almighty God for help and guidance.
In recognition of this need, the Congress has fittingly provided, in a joint resolution which I approved on May 11, 1950, that Memorial Day, which has long been set aside for paying tribute to those who lost their lives in war, shall henceforth be dedicated also as a day for Nation-wide prayer for permanent peace. The Congress has also requested that the President issue a proclamation calling upon the people of the United States to observe Memorial Day in that manner.
Now, Therefore, I, Harry S. Truman, President of the United States of America, pursuant to the aforementioned resolution, do hereby proclaim Memorial Day, Tuesday, May 30, 1950, and each succeeding Memorial Day, as a day of prayer for permanent peace. And I designate the hour beginning at eleven o'clock in the morning of that day, Eastern Daylight Saving Time, as a period in which all our people may unite in prayer, each in accordance with his own religious faith, for divine aid in bringing enduring peace to a troubled world.
I also request the agencies of the press, radio, television, and other media of public information to join in the observance of that day and of the specified hour by announcements and programs designed to unite the Nation in a universal prayer for permanent peace.
In Witness Whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Seal of the United States of America to be affixed.
Done at the City of Washington this 22nd day of May in the year of our Lord nineteen hundred and fifty, and of the Independence of the United States of America the one hundred and seventy-fourth.

This is Thursday. If Wednesday was a time of rest in Bethany for Jesus, Thursday was the opposite. It was an intense time as the Cross drew nearer. On Thursday, Jesus celebrated Passover, He taught His disciples, He prayed in Gethsemane, then allowed Himself to be betrayed by one of His own disciples and arrested by soldiers sent by the religious leaders. Let’s enter into Thursday...

What would it have been like for the disciples to go from the celebration of the Passover meal and the rich, full teaching of Jesus in the upper room, to the shadows of Gethsemane and the horror of seeing Jesus betrayed, arrested, and led off by an armed mob? Although Jesus had told them multiple times this would happen, the disciples had never understood.

So…on Thursday night, their nightmare began.

Are you, too, living at the beginning of a nightmare? Thursday teaches us that sometimes God allows us to experience unimaginable circumstances because He is working out a greater purpose for His glory. Trust Him when you don’t understand.
