🐾 Thursday Staff Spotlight: Meet Stacy, Our Clinic Manager! 🐾

We are so excited to introduce Stacy, who joined the Chesapeake Humane Society in July 2023, bringing 17 years of experience in animal care and medicine!

Growing up on her family farm in rural Ohio, Stacy’s love for animals started young, often accompanied by her own pack of furry friends. At 17, she began her professional journey as a kennel attendant and quickly moved up to a Veterinary Assistant role, where she spent 16 years expanding her expertise in veterinary medicine.

Now as our Clinic Manager, Stacy is dedicated to helping CHS grow and providing affordable, high-quality care to the community’s beloved pets. We’re so lucky to have her on our team!

At Chesapeake Humane Society, we believe in protecting not only people but also their pets during times of crisis. Our Crisis Boarding Program provides a safe place for pets of individuals escaping domestic violence, so families can seek safety knowing their furry loved ones are cared for.

If you or someone you know is in need of this service, we are here to help. Together, we can ensure that no one—human or animal—is left behind in times of need.

🐾 Tuesday Staff Spotlight: Meet Our Incredible LVTs – Juli & Nora! 🐾

Today, we want to shine a spotlight on two amazing Licensed Veterinary Technicians (LVTs) who are essential to the Chesapeake Humane Society team! 💙

✨ Nora has been with CHS for 3.5 years and recently completed her LVT program through Tidewater Community College. Starting her animal care journey in wildlife rehabilitation, she moved into shelter medicine with a passion for high-quality care. Nora has two beloved cats (one adopted from CHS!), a corn snake, and a red-footed tortoise named Dorothy. In her downtime, she loves playing Sims and reading horror fiction!

✨ Juli, our Lead LVT, has been in shelter medicine for almost 8 years and completed her undergrad at Lincoln Memorial University. When she’s not caring for animals, you can find her fostering kittens, spending time with her two cats, or dancing her heart out! Whether at the gym or watching Netflix, she knows how to balance hard work and fun, and her love for the fur babies is unmatched!

These two bring so much heart, knowledge, and dedication to our clinic, and we’re so grateful for the care they provide to our shelter animals and community pets!

Meet Posey!
Ring around the rosie, pocket full of Posey...
Posey is the perfect pocket dog! At 5 years old, this sweet Jack Russell Terrier mix may be a little shy at first, but once she warms up, all she wants is to sit in your lap and be loved. Posey’s gentle, affectionate nature makes her the ideal companion for anyone looking for a loyal snuggle buddy.

If you're ready to give Posey the cozy lap she dreams of, come meet her at Chesapeake Humane Society and see how quickly she’ll steal your heart!

🐾Monday's Staff Spotlight: Our Amazing Veterinarians! 🐾

We want to take a moment to show some love to the incredible veterinarians who make a difference every day at Chesapeake Humane Society! 💙

✨ Dr. Hemmings, Our Medical Director, joined CHS in 2023 and brings a wealth of experience from both private practice and shelter medicine. She’s passionate about soft tissue surgery and internal medicine. When she’s not at the clinic, she enjoys baking, reading, and spending time with her family—including her furry and feathered companions!

✨ Dr. Meredith Bleuer has been with us since 2022 and is a passionate advocate for shelter medicine. Her goal is to ensure all animals, regardless of their circumstances, get the care they deserve. She’s especially focused on increasing access to veterinary care for all pet owners.

✨ Dr. Phan is our newest team member, joining us in 2024. She has a long history in shelter medicine, starting her journey at just 13 years old! She’s passionate about spay and neuter services and is a loving caretaker to her own large furry and scaly family. In her downtime, she enjoys cruising and reality TV!

We are so grateful for their dedication, compassion, and hard work. Our shelter—and the animals we care for—are better because of them! 🐶🐱

On World Mental Health Day, we want to highlight the incredible bond between people and their pets. Whether it's a gentle purr, a wagging tail, or just their comforting presence, pets have a special way of lifting our spirits and easing our minds. They’re our companions, our confidants, and our daily source of joy.

Studies show that spending time with animals can reduce stress, anxiety, and even improve overall mental well-being. Adopting a pet doesn’t just change their life—it can change yours too!

Take a moment today to appreciate the unconditional love and support that our furry friends provide. If you’re looking to add a little extra happiness to your life, come visit us at Chesapeake Humane Society and meet your new best friend.

Meet Bobee! Bobee is a 6yr old male tabby cat looking for his next family. Brobee is expressive and loves interaction. He is currently on a prescription diet, but it is possible that he won't need to continue that food long term. Brobee gets along great with other cats, but he would be fine in a solo home as well.

Our shelter is open 12-4pm today, tomorrow and Sunday. Fill out an adoption application online, or stop by to meet Bobee in person. He looks forward to greeting you!
