As you know, roads can start getting icy this time of year. A common de-icing product known as rock salt is a mixture of sodium chloride that helps reduce ice build-up on roads.

What you may not know is that rock salt can be extremely dangerous to pets - especially when ingested or licked from paws and fur. Symptoms of salt poisoning include drooling, vomiting, diarrhea, and loss of appetite.

If you suspect your pet may have ingested rock salt, contact VVC right away. You can also connect with the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center at (888) 426-4435.
