🎵🎄 All Fortnight wants for Christmas is you! 🎄🎵 After eight months in our care, this pawfect pup is ready to spend the howl-idays in a home of his own. Fortnight is the definition of beauty and brains 🧠 - he knows sit, lie down and touch.

Fortnight is looking for someone who will be patient with him while he learns to gain trust, but once he's your bestie, he'll want all the cuddles. He also needs a home where he can be the only pet.

All adoption fees for adult dogs like Fortnight are $50 until December 17 to help us . Know anyone who may be interested in this cutie patootie? Call our humane center to learn more. 💙

Adding some holiday greenery to your decor this year? Plants can spruce things up, however some of them can also be dangerous for pets and require extra care if you have a pet that might see them as a snack. If your pet ingests any of these holiday plants, call your vet or Pet Poison Helpline.

P.S. If you're curious about Christmas trees 👀 ... they can cause intestinal blockage if the needles are ingested. Live trees are also sometimes treated with chemicals that can cause toxicity if chewed on.

New Year’s Eve is fast approaching and now is the time, not December 31st, to begin preparing. Humans enjoy the revelry of fireworks, but for most pets – fireworks, like thunder storms, can cause a great deal of stress. Many animals will run when panicked and can get lost, hurt and even killed. Helpful tips are:

• Make sure your pet’s ID/Microchip is current. Your pets should always have proper identification tags with current information in case they get lost. Microchipping is strongly recommended.
• Keep your pets indoors.
• Close the curtains or blinds and turn on the TV or radio to provide some distraction.
• Provide treat toys, such as KONG’s filled with their favorite food, to help keep their minds busy and distract them from the fireworks.
• Provide a quiet place, such as a carrier or crate, which may give your pet a sense of security and comfort.
• Use a leash or carrier if you must go outside with your pet to keep them from running off which is a common response to stress and fear.
• Practice fire safety! Keep pets away from matches, open fires, and fireworks. Pets may try to sniff (or eat) fireworks and pet hair can easily catch fire if they get too close.
• Take pets for a walk before the fireworks begin. Some pets are too frightened to go out once the fireworks are popping, and this may lead to an “accident” later on.

In the event you lose or find a pet: *** If you FIND a lost pet ALWAYS require “Proof of ownership”. Cell phone photos work great***
• Search your property thoroughly. Continue to call their name.
• Contact your microchip company
• Try to attract your pet: Leave food and water outside along with your pet’s bed and a worn article of your clothing.
• Post Lost Flyers, ask your neighbors and provide flyers for mail delivery drivers as well as waste management. Those who are driving on the roads can be extra ears and eyes for you.
• Contact ALL local shelters and file a report. If your family member is turned in the shelter will know who to contact. You can find contact information here on our website https://humanemanatee.org/resources/lost-and-found/
