Misty's kittens have arrived! 🩵
She had one stillborn and five perfect, tiny tuxies. Mama is doing great, and she is so happy and attentive.
Our tiny Violet is currently inpatient at the hospital.
We brought her to the ER last night. She stopped eating, and her breath became severely labored, with a respiration rate of 120 (normal is 15-30). She has fluid in her lungs, and a fever. The working diagnosis is pneumonia, likely brought on by her body's current inability to fight infection. She's gone through so much: all the stress, undergoing anesthesia (which was unavoidable), massive internal infection, almost a week without care before being trapped, anemia, malnutrition and emaciation, and lack of any preventative vetting before coming into our care. Violet doesn't have much left to fight with.
The doctors were honest with us this afternoon. If Violet hasn't improved by tomorrow morning, they think it's unlikely she will recover. We're praying she can, but we're here for whatever decision Violet makes.
The hospitalization thus far has cost $1,600, and will be a minimum of $2,400 tomorrow morning. Any help you can give is appreciated more than we can say, and we are already beyond grateful for the generosity we have seen throughout this awful case. We will share some of the happier stories, as we can, but Violet is our focus right now. Say some prayers for her tonight. 💙
Merry Christmas, Sunshine Family!
#GivingTuesday has arrived.
Yesterday's statistics indicate that the U.S. saw more Cyber Monday sales than ever before. Various reports are showing a spending increase beyond the $10.7 billion spent in 2021!
We love good sales as much as everyone else - dog food is expensive - but now that you've boosted the for-profit sector, consider giving to the nonprofits. Whether you give to Sunshine or another organization, whether you give your money, or time, or donate goods, remember that your generosity is important, and it changes lives. ☀️

How are these two cuties not adopted yet???
River and Ocean are playing during our tag sale, next to the Chester Dog Fair! Need something to do this weekend? The Chester Dog Fair is ongoing at the Chester Fair Grounds. We've got a tag sale and puppies to visit next door (NOT an adoption event, but they'd love to meet new friends!), and Deep River Family Day runs until fireworks tonight.
Support your local rescues and small businesses! We'd love to see you (and any of our #sunshinepups)
Post-injection Victoria is a bit sad and doped up, but still as loving as ever. She spent Friday at the clinic for observation, after receiving her first immiticide injection. When Dr. Bernie brought her out at the end of the day, she said Victoria had won over the staff's hearts with her sweet, gentle nature. 💙
Victoria will be on strict rest for the next 30 days, and then go back for her next heartworm injection. She still is very much in need of a foster or foster-to-adopt home. Right now, she is extremely low maintenance. She spends all her time in her crate or on a lead line outside - in both places, she is quiet and enjoys watching the world go by, as she waits for her next round of belly rubs.
Firework Safety Part Two
Fireworks have started here in Chester - stay safe!
Staying Calm During Fireworks
Keeping Pets Calm and Safe during Fireworks - Part One
FINALLY on her way to CT, after several transport delays! April is the last of our Spring-themed dogs from the hoarding case to come to CT. We had her spayed, vaccinated, and tested for heartworms (negative!). She is a shy, but very sweet girl. Very young - maybe under a year? We are guessing perhaps a Yorkie mix, but who knows. She is only about 8 pounds!
Blossom is a fantastic mother, and her two boys - Bumblebee and Dandelion - are chubby, happy blonde babies!
Mama is eating a LOT of food, to provide adequate nutrition for her puppies, and pretty soon the puppies will start eating solids! We would greatly appreciate any puppy food that can be sent our way. 😊

Adoptable Eloise & Kate 💙
Our Catahoula babies are getting fat, active, and finally seeing the world! Victoria is a great mom and a sweet companion. They'll be staying in Houston until 8-weeks or so, and Victoria will travel to CT after heartworm treatment.
Play time is the best time!
Jane, Jasper, Alice, and Rosalie are still waiting on their forever families, along with their mom, Bella.

Venus's Shepsky Babies
Five of our "shepsky" littles are still waiting for homes! They are an absolute joy - they are also super smart and energetic. (Except Auriga - she's pretty chill.)
Ladybug is a great conversationalist. She would like a family that appreciates good discussions, accompanied by belly rubs.
Female black Lab mix, spayed, microchipped, vaccinated, and up-to-date on preventatives. House-trained, crate-trained, walks well on a leash, and likes other dogs (no cats, please). Loves kids, wearing sweaters, and cuddling. Approximately 3-4 years-old, and 50 pounds (but short).
Fostered in Middletown, CT.
