A little over 2 weeks ago, we pulled 2 little kittens that were facing euthanasia from an overcrowded shelter.
By that evening, one had started having some stomach problems. We started meds and extra care, and she started to improve.
By the end of the next week, they were both worse. They were losing weight, everything was going through them, and they were not the happy active kittens they should be. It was the week before Thanksgiving, which is never an easy time for this stuff to happen (but really, is it ever?) We moved them to a temporary foster with more medical experience to get additional care. Unfortunately, despite our best efforts, sweet baby Sophia passed away.
Blanche remained in poor condition. Her amazing temporary foster worked incredibly hard to keep her stable. She went to the vet again, we ran tests, we started additional meds. All tests came back negative, and our best guess is that she has some nameless, nasty virus circulating her system. And when you weigh less than 4 sticks of butter, it's hard to fight these things.
That doesn't stop us from doing everything we can.
Blanche is currently with me at Tiny Paws HQ, tucked into a nice cozy incubator. She's just barely over a pound, her fur is greasy because she doesn't have the energy to groom herself, and she's tired. She doesn't want to play like a kitten her age normally would.
And yet she continues to fight.
Every few hours I make a new dish of food and pull medications. I open the incubator enough to pet her and talk to her while she eats, but not enough to let her little residence cool down.
The other night, she stuck her head out and meowed at me. It was faint. You could hear that she was tired.
But I stuck my head closer to hear her little rumbling purr. She took the opportunity to give me a head bump, and I turned me into a puddle. She's still fighting.
Every day Tiny Paws RVA works hard to save the tiniest babies with the tiniest paws. They might be small but they matter. And they have the biggest will to live.
And today, on Giving Tuesday, we'd love your help to continue the work we do. If you consider us worth your donation, please know how thankful we are. ๐
