Next month will be 2 years since the sudden passing of Beth, the sister of our office manager Peggie. To help honor her memory, her husband Brent, has decided to help a charity close to Beth by creating this annual food drive.
“Maybe helping others in need can help us along with our healing process.”
Please show your support by bringing to Eastside any donations of canned goods, paper products, bottled items or monetary donations. You may bring any items you’d like to donate to the clinic and we will transport it for you. The deadline for donations is September 20th.
And we can't forget our furry friends in need! We’d also like you to consider bringing donations of pet food for their pets. We will then donate it to local organizations.
Thank you very much!

Puzzle #5: Hide and Slide This is one of the more challenging puzzle for dogs and requires them to move and then slide a separate piece to get to food. It can be made more difficult by hiding pieces in the small hole on top which then requires to the dog to flip the one piece to open the spot above the hole, slide the second piece over the hole to allow the food to drop, and then slide the piece back to access the food. This is one of Mira’s favorites. What food puzzles have you tried? Which one does your pet like best?
Puzzle #4: Nina Ottosson’s Tornado This is a set of three tiered spinning trays. The dog must learn how to spin all three levels to get to the food. We like this one a lot and find it is nice to be able to put a lot of food (almost an entire meal) into it. This is also great for dogs who eat too quickly and need something to slow them down.
Food puzzle #3: Busy Buddy Magic Mushroom This puzzle is similar to the rolling ball as it requires your dog to roll it around to get the kibble to fall out through a hole. It is slightly more challenging because they have to learn how to move and flip it instead of simply rolling it along. Mira really likes using her nose to flip it around!
Food puzzle #2: Snuffle Mat This one is slightly more challenging as it requires your pet to use their nose to find the kibble or treats hidden in the “snuffle mat.” This is a great choice for dogs who like to smell and sniff a lot on walks (especially those hound dogs!) Food puzzle are a great way to redirect your dog when they tend to do naughty behaviors. For example, if your dog is a notorious beggar and is constantly pestering the kids at the table, you can redirect them by feeding them their meal in a food puzzle during dinner time. This is a fun and rewarding activity that also redirects them to a more desirable behavior and stop the unwanted behavior.
Let’s talk about food puzzles! We mention them often in appointments as a wonderful way to create mental enrichment for your pet. It’s inherently rewarding because all animals need food for survival and almost all of them enjoy the challenge of figuring out how to get it! This one is very simple in concept: roll the ball to get the treats to fall out. Mirabelle enjoys making the ball roll (especially across hardwood floors!) and typically prefers the food puzzle over just eating out of her bowl. We’ll explore some of the more challenging puzzles over the next few weeks so stay turned for more videos.
