They don’t bark. They don’t scratch furniture.
They do squeak loudly when they hear a fridge open.
Our three male guinea pigs are available for adoption and ready to bring a little chaos, a lot of personality, and endless veggie demands into your life.

2025 was a record-setting year — and it wouldn’t have been possible without you. 💙

This year, we cared for hundreds of animals, reunited pets with their families, partnered with rescues, provided lifesaving medical care, and celebrated our highest number of adoptions yet. Every number in this graphic represents a life changed and a second chance made possible.

Whether you adopted, fostered, volunteered, donated, or shared our mission, you played a direct role in these outcomes.

As champagne corks pop and we toast to the new year, Diamond is wishing for a celebration of her own, a forever home to ring in 2026. This gorgeous champagne-colored pit bull mix has been with Animal Care Shelter for Kent County since July 7th, and she’s more than ready for her lucky break.

Diamond may take a little time to warm up to new people, but once she does, her personality shines quickly and beautifully. She’s currently in a foster home living peacefully with small dogs and attempting to make friends with the horses, and while at the shelter, she played well with many canine friends, showing just how social and adaptable she can be.

Her foster will be heading out of town soon, and we’re truly hoping Diamond won’t have to return to the shelter. We would love nothing more than for 2026 to begin with Diamond already settled into her forever home, her very own moment.

Animal Care Shelter for Kent County will be closed on January 1st, 2026, as we take a moment to welcome the new year.

This year was shaped by so many compassionate people: volunteers, adopters, fosters, donors, partners, and supporters who showed up in big and small ways for the animals who needed us most.

Thank you for being part of their stories and part of ours. We cannot wait to see what the next year holds and to continue this work together in 2026.

We’re SO close to history! 🎉

In 2023, Animal Care Shelter for Kent County celebrated a record 501 adoptions.
This year? We’re just 5 adoptions away from beating that record!

That’s 5 more lives changed. 5 more happy endings. 5 more animals starting their next chapter.

**We are THRILLED to share, MUDPIE HAS BEEN ADOPTED!!!**

Mudpie entered the Animal Care Shelter for Kent County on July 7th, and from day one, she showed us exactly who she is — a gentle, loving girl who adores being part of a family.

She recently spent time in a foster home, where she truly thrived. Mudpie bonded deeply with the 10-year-old child in the home, becoming her constant companion and best friend. Her foster family affectionately calls her “Muddy Puppy,” a name that fits her sweet, joyful personality perfectly.

Sadly, Mudpie had to return to the shelter on Christmas. Through no fault of her own, she found herself back in a kennel, but even after that disruption, Mudpie has remained the same loving, resilient dog we’ve always known.

At the shelter, Mudpie continues to shine. She’s a doggie playgroup superstar, does wonderfully with other dogs, and has earned a spot in our volunteer-approved dorm, a space reserved for dogs who are trusted, social, and well-loved.

Mudpie has spent months waiting for her forever home and as we step into a new year, she deserves more than another season in the shelter. She deserves a couch, a family, and someone to call her own.

Let’s start Mudpie’s new year the way it should begin at home!

This Christmas, four familiar faces stopped by,
Zeus, Kevin Costner, Chip, and Beluga saying hi.
With wagging tails and holiday cheer,
They’re here to spread smiles this time of year.

In silly hats and festive flair,
They’re wishing joy to everyone, everywhere.
So from our pups, both big and small,
Merry Christmas, happiness, and cheer to all!

This Christmas Eve, we will be closing our doors at 1 PM, and they will remain closed on Christmas Day. We will return to our normal hours on Friday, December 26, ready to continue caring for the animals who need us most.

Before we do, we want to offer our deepest thank you to everyone who placed a gift beneath our tree this year. To those who thought of an animal they may never meet and chose kindness anyway, your generosity filled bowls, beds, and hearts, and reminded every animal in our care that they are not forgotten.
