When used correctly, I really feel like training tools can enhance the communication you have with your dog and be very supportive.
There’s so many different tools out there, each with their own use, styles and of course, feelings attached to them.
So many tools that I use have hate attached to them. Yet my dogs can safely go off leash with me while I’m riding horse, driving the four wheeler or just walking around. We kick up all sorts of wildlife and sometimes, my dogs being dogs, want to chase. With the e collar we have the support needed to keep everyone safe.
This weekend my family and I went for a walk with my 14 year old Chihuahua, Pepito.
The tool we chose to use?
The flexi leash, or retractable, or devil’s training tool—whatever you want to call it.
Is this a tool I use on a lot of dogs? Nope. Does it have its purpose at time? Yes.
Sometimes we get so stuck in our head about training tools we become so close minded. Sometimes we attach our ego to a tool, or lack of tools. Sometimes we may even fight, judge, hate on, or try to persuade for or against different tools. I try to not get too caught up on that with my clients. I want them to know about different tools, how and when to use them and different ways we support our dogs outside of tools.
Sometimes I’m successful at this and sometimes not. That’s okay.
Because today I’m going to take dogs out on e collars and enjoy the beautiful weather. And yesterday I took Pepito out on a flexi and had fun. And that’s what’s really important.
