Black Dog Animal Rescue Our Mission: To promote, provide, and advocate for the needs of companion animals.

What sets BDAR apart is our unique vision for Wyoming:

We’re the only rescue dedicated exclusively to helping Wyoming’s homeless pets and Wyoming’s pet owners. PACK Program: A partnership with the Wyoming Medium Correctional Institution that pairs shelter dogs with inmate handlers for 9 weeks. This program teaches dogs basic obedience and provides both the dog and the inmate with the opportunity

for shared redemption and rehabilitation. Foster care: A program designed to increase the capacity of the adoption program by placing animals in temporary care in the homes of willing volunteers. High-volume adoptions: A program designed to place as many homeless pets in dedicated permanent homes as quickly as possible, thereby freeing up physical, financial, and human resources necessary to care for new incoming animals, or those requiring more extensive therapies prior to adoption. Low-cost microchips: Affording people the ability to have their pet permanently identified in the event they become missing and need to be reunited with their owner. Pet food pantry: Assisting members of the community with free dog and cat food and other supplies during times of financial hardship. Positive Alternatives to Shelter Surrender (PASS) program: Re-homing assistance for dogs who need not ever enter a shelter.

A Huge Thank You! 🐾

We want to extend our heartfelt thanks to Cheyenne Animal Shelter and everyone who donated — whether you dropped off supplies, sent items through Amazon, or contributed in other ways.

Thanks to your incredible generosity, our pet pantry is fit to burst! We’re now well prepared to support pets and families in need during these challenging times.

Your kindness and compassion remind us just how special this community is. Thank you for helping us care for the animals — and the people — who make it so wonderful. If you or anyone you know needs some pet food, please send them our way.

Check out Pedro summiting the mountain of Amazon boxes yesterday morning! He is available for adoption!

Hi friends! We could really use your help right now.

As many people in our community face the very real possibility of not being able to feed their families in the coming months, we want to help ensure that they won't also have to struggle to feed their pets. Or worse, face the agonizing decision to rehome them.

The Empty Dish Pet Pantry is a service we provide throughout the year to anyone who needs it, but the need is ever-increasing, and we are running out of supplies for those who depend on it. Currently, we are in desperate need of dry cat food. We have none. Our dry dog food supply is also running very low. Without these items, we will have to begin turning people away.

If you can donate a bag or two, we would be so appreciative! We will accept any brand. Donations can be dropped off at our adoption center at 2407 E 9th Street in Cheyenne, Monday-Friday between 9-5, or visit the link to our Chewy and Amazon wishlists in the comments to have your donation sent to us that way.

Thank you for helping us keep pets where they belong - with the families who love them.

*** AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION, FOSTER, or FOSTER TO ADOPT ***

Meet James! He is currently enrolled in our P.A.C.K. Program, a 9-week intensive program for routine obedience, agility, and handling training with a prison inmate trainer and he is almost ready to show off his new skills! His new abilities include 'sit', 'wave', 'shake' and more! New adopters should realize that PACK Program graduates will require regular, ongoing reinforcement of learned behaviors in order for them to become permanent.

James is a sweet and spunky guy. He spent some time in another Wyoming shelter and was overlooked. We have no idea why! He likes to play with other dogs - but he can be loud about it. He'll need to meet any potential new siblings. James is a higher energy boy, who will benefit from daily activity.

He does very well in his kennel and will be happy to see you after a long day at work. When it's food time, he does the cutest tippy toe tap dance that's guaranteed to put a smile on your face.

He will graduate towards the middle of November and would love to show you his cute food happy dance. Apply to meet him today! Use the link in the comments to learn more.

Its National Cat Day, Celebrate by adopting Aria!

Aria is a gentle, one-year-old black and white beauty whose name perfectly matches her personality—she’s as sweet as a song. After recently raising a litter of kittens, this loving mama is now ready to be pampered herself.

She’s a slinky little girl who loves to rub her body alongside a soft bed or your arm, soaking up all the love she can get. Aria adores being cozy and will press her tiny body right up against you, seeking warmth and comfort.

Though she’s still a bit skinny from motherhood, she’s enjoying plenty of treats and premium food to help her get back to a healthy weight. What she really needs now is a forever home where she can feel safe, loved, and spoiled.

Come meet Aria—she just might be your perfect snuggle companion! You can apply to meet her using the link in the comments, or drop by Kitty City, located in our office, Monday through Friday, 9am-5pm. Where you can meet adult adoptable cats without an appointment.
