Why a bernadoodle? Because Bernese Mountain dogs make excellent family dogs. They differ in several ways from the popular Golden Retriever but also have some similarities. Such as: Loyal, good with kids, playful, rambunctious, and smart. They different in that they have less drive to play fetch or bring you things, they are lower energy on the whole, often larger (although ours is the same size), and have more guard dog in their blood. I rarely run into a golden retriever who doesn't welcome you into their home instantly - they may bark but they want to jump all over you and most intruders would only be concerned with being licked to death. Having a Berner has been a different story. She is slower to welcome people to our "den". She is not aggressive - but I know she would protect if there was a real intruder. She learns her people and so if you are new to our house/"den" she might not want all the pets right away - esp if you are a man with a hat and sunglasses. But this is ok with me. I trust her completely.
So why a bernadoodle? Because these traits will pass down - just with less fur. And they make for a wonderful dog.
