Good afternoon from the Briarwood.
As many of you know I didn't have a litter last year, but Grif did sire a wonderful litter in October with a female, Tulsi owned by Susan Marr from Long's Peak English Shepherds.
The breeding was a conservation cross to preserve some of the older lines for this wonderful breed. The pedigree's were great on paper and the puppies have turned out beautifully, so much so that I've decided to get one myself. There is one sable/white female available from this cross and she's just a delight.
I asked Susan to give me a bit of information on Tulsi, and the female pup named Cherry. I've included a bit on Grif as well.
Tulsi is from Mitchell, Cimarron, Schoeman, Wilson, Chesney lines on her sire’s side, and Bowman, Machmiller, and Parmely lines on her dam’s. She is a lean 48lb, athletic and agile. She has the best natural attentiveness, biddability, and recall of any dog I've owned, which is saying something, since her parents both were excellent in that regard. She is loyal, very athletic, and an amazing hiking companion. She's loving and cuddly with people she knows, but a bit reserved with strangers. She goes to work with me and is very friendly with my co-workers, but will bark at delivery drivers etc. She generally gets along well with other, non-aggressive dogs and LOVES puppies. She has a low prey drive and nurturing temperament like her sire. I have chickens and she can hang out in with the pen with them without any issue. She will briefly chase the bunnies in the yard, but calls off instantly. She is a stick-close-to-home dog, and on several occasions when she’s been, unintentionally, left out of the house and yard, she is waiting patiently to be let back in hours later. Her siblings from various litters have gone with great success to farm/ranch, family companion, and SAR homes.
Cherry is sweet and biddable, with beautiful eye contact, and is showing strong indications of having a bossy, rules-oriented temperament. She has a medium prey drive and is very interested in the chickens, but remains calm around them. Cherry was over 14lbs at 8 weeks, which is quite large for a female at this age. These guys are outside a good bit and get lots of exercise, so she's not chubby. ;) Her dam, Tulsi, is 48lb, but in terms of size, Cherry seems to take after her sire, Grif, as well as her grandsire and granddam (Bodie was a lean 65lb and Lucy was a lean 55lb.)
Grif is Schoeman and Red Bank. Temperament wise Grif weighs in at 65 pounds and has a farm boss temperament. He is active and very biddable. He's loving and good natured. He was born on an active farm in WI. He thinks it's his job to rid the yard anything that he deems doesn't belong... chipmunks, squirrels, and the like as well as keeping the cat in sight and in one place.. He doesn't do so well keeping the cat still, but he is persistent in trying. When not in the backyard patrolling, he's very happy to be cuddled up at my side on the sofa. He travels well and is protective but not overly so.
Cherry has Schoeman lines both top and bottom of her pedigree. Shoeman lines are hard to find and she's proving to be a wonderful representative of Mildred Shoeman's dogs.
If you think you might be interested in providing a home for Cherry, please PM me so I can get you in touch with Susan.
