We just received the news that Lucie has crossed over the rainbow bridge yesterday.

I will always remember her sweet face and gentle pup kisses. She loved to sun bathe out back and stand on top of my patio table to monitor the rest of the group, lol. She was such a good cuddle buddy, too šŸ’”

RIP Lucie ā™„ļø

My sweet Stanley šŸ’”

One of the very first Boston terriers that I fell in love with back while working at the animal hospital.

He was so loved by everyone. During his free time I would always find him buried under some blankets or hiding in a cocoon, and if I disturbed him he would look at me like I canceled Christmas, lol 🄹

I will miss him so much!

RIP Stan the Man ā™„ļø

What a beautiful post and video about sweet Sasha! So happy to have been part of it šŸ’œ

This is a story about heroes—but not the kind you see in movies.

These are the everyday warriors, the ones who fight in silence, often unnoticed, but whose impact is nothing short of extraordinary. We’ve all seen it—a heartbreaking post on social media:

A dog is found. A dog is sent to Animal Control. A dog is never seen again.

For too many, that’s where the story ends.

But that’s not the whole truth. Not even close.

Because behind every one of those posts lies a battle—a race against time, fought by people with hearts too big to ignore the call.

It starts with the ones out in the streets, braving weather, traffic, and danger to catch a terrified stray who has already lost so much.

Then come the officers at the police station, who don’t just hold the leash—they hold hope. They feed them, walk them, talk to them like they’re family. They fall in love, knowing that when no owner is found and no rescue has room, they’ll have to send them to CACC, hearts heavy, but still holding on to hope.

And then there are the tireless advocates—the ones who make the flyers, flood social media, knock on doors, desperately trying to turn a statistic back into a story worth saving.

At CACC, the struggle continues.

The workers and volunteers—exhausted but relentless—try to prepare every dog for a second chance. They network, they call, they beg. They hold onto hope longer than most could bear, even when rescues are full and time is running out.

But there’s a truth too heavy for most to carry—the reality of those tasked with the unthinkable. The ones who have to say goodbye to healthy, loving animals because the system is broken, overwhelmed, and stretched beyond its limits. These people don’t walk away unscarred—their hearts break, too.

Yet, even in the darkest parts of this system, there’s light.

There are the rescues—the ones who never stop working. Who squeeze in just one more even when space is gone. Who keep fighting, even when it feels like drowning.

There are the fosters—the everyday heroes who open their homes to scared, broken animals, giving them a place to heal, to trust again, and to know love.

There are the donors, the fundraisers, the silent supporters—the ones who give what they can because they know every dollar could be the difference between life and death.

And there are the vets, boarding facilities, trainers, and pet stores—the unsung allies who pour in their time, skills, and resources, not for profit, but for purpose.

Rescue is a team effort; always has been and always will be.

Please consider adopting a rescue instead of buying a designer pup from a breeder. This is a never-ending battle with no end in sight.

The dogs in the pic are at Chicago Animal Care and Control waiting, hoping for a home.

Meet Mei Mei! She’s an almost 3-year-old Yorkie/Chihuahua mix, and she’s joined me today after her mom reached out last night asking for help rehoming her. Unfortunately, her mom recently moved and didn’t have a place for Mei Mei. 😢

Mei Mei will need a patient and understanding home, as she’s understandably confused by the sudden change in her life. She’s very shy but gets along well with both other dogs and cats!

We’re still getting to know her, but if you think you might be a good fit for Mei Mei when she’s ready for her forever home, please send me a message!
