After searching for a few hours, Final Farewell was able to locate the stray that was wandering around Englewood.
On our way to the vet.
Cats don't have nine lives...just one!
Sometimes life just isn't fair. Jack was pulled from Chicago Animal Care and Control by a Final Farewell board member. He was in really bad shape, and didn't stand a chance staying at animal control. Final Farewell saved him from certain death at CACC and tried to give him a chance at life. He was provided with immediate medical attention and was staying at our vet's office trying to recover. He was fighting for his life.
Things took a turn for the worse when Jack developed FeLV and his little body just couldn't fight any longer. One evening, while on our way to visit Jack, we received the call from our vet that Jack didn't make it.
Jack's ashes will be taken to South Carolina, on his trip to his final resting place he will be traveling with a wind chime and will be in a ceremonial container. Final Farewell is honoring Jack's life and remembering all of the other animals that didn't have a fair chance at life.
Never stop dreaming, they do come true!!
Happy endings are rare, especially for a stray pit bull with no ID at Chicago Animal Care & Control (CACC). Dogs coming in without an ID have less than a 2% chance of being re-united with their owner after 4 days at a shelter. Plus, 40% of the animals at CACC are pit bulls, making Priya one of many.
Priya had been at CACC for over a month, developing a upper respiratory infection and her time was almost up. Final Farewell stepped in at the last minute and saved her from death. We took her in as one of our own, not knowing anything about her past. We provided her with the love and medical care she needed. Priya is now microchipped.
Priya (now Princess) was re-united with her family on Wednesday. Her owner had taken her in off the streets at only 8 weeks old. She had been with her family for 6 years. Things changed for Priya once her owner got laid off, evicted and forced to move down to Mississippi temporarily for work. Her owner left her with a friend and gave him money every month for food. Priya had gotten loose in February and landed herself at CACC. Priya’s owner returned to Chicago and wanted her dog back. Only then did she learn that Priya had been missing. Priya’s owner was able to track her down on-line, was connected to Dogahowlicks (a rescue partner with Final Farewell) and then to us.
Here is a video of Priya (called Princess) being re-united with her family. Though Priya is back home, she will always be a part of our family. We will continue to provide high quality food and medical care for Priya. We will stay in touch and will take Priya back with open arms if for any reason Priya’s owner is unable to provide care or keep her.
Wind Chime
At Final Farewell we believe sounds connects us with our environment, nature is never silent and sound links us to other life. Sound stimulation can nurture behavioral changes and emotions. We can react negatively or positively to sound. Positive sound can ease the feeling of loneliness or isolation. Good sound can stimulate or enhance relaxation, reverse sadness, clam nervousness, tension and anger. We believe using the wind chime in our ceremony will help the animal spirits rest in peace. Each ceremony the wind chime is hung up high and will remain in the ceremonial site forever so the animal spirits will never be lonely.
