Continuing our look at Historic IKC Best in Show Winners, this week we have one for our sporting dog fans! On March 30, 1940, Best in Show Judge Dr. Henry Jarret selected the English Setter, CH Maro of Maridor as his winner. The sporting group had been judged by Mr. Walter H. Reeves, and the breed entry of 45 English Setters was judged by G.V. Glebe.

Maro was owned by Mr. and Mrs. A. Biddle Duke.

English Setters have been quite successful at IKC with the following representatives taking Best in Show Honors:
1954: CH Ludar of Blue Bar
1955: CH Freejax Royalist
1958: CH Ben-Dar's Winning Stride
1996: CH Set Ridge Lookin' at You Kid
2017: GCHG CH Aerden's Free Fallin' with Honeygait

Continuing with our look back at historic IKC Best In Show Winners, this week we take you back to April 2, 1939. This dog will be well known to Doberman Pinscher fanciers worldwide. CH Ferry V. Rauhfelsen of Giralda, was bred by Wilhelm Rothfuss in Germany, and owned by Geraldine Rockefeller Dodge. Ferry defeated an entry of 56 Doberman Pinschers under breed judge Mr. Anton Korbel, and went on to win the Working Group under Mr. Lewis S. Worden, ultimately claiming his Best in Show Victory under Mr. Walter H. Reeves of Ontario.
Winning a total of 12 career Bests in Show, Ferry won Best in Show at Westminster Kennel Club in the same year as his IKC victory. He was piloted by Mrs. Dodge's Handler McClure Halley.
Ferry's grandson CH Rancho Dobe's Stom is notable for being named Best in Show at Westminster twice---one of only eight dogs to do so.

Doberman Pinschers have claimed the Best in Show title at IKC on two other occasions:
1965: CH Ru-Mar's Tsushima CD
2002: Marienburg Repo Man

Did you know that IKC was originally called The Chicago Kennel Club (1901-1937)? In 1938, our shows moved to the International Amphitheater at the Union Stockyards, and our club assumed the name International Kennel Club. That year, Best in Show judge Mrs. M. Heartly Dodge selected the Old English Sheepdog, CH Ideal Weather, bred and owned by Mr. Leonard Collins for the top award. Sired by Lucky Jean, out of Moonbeam Weather, CH Ideal Weather was also the Best in Show Winner of that year's Morris & Essex Kennel Club show over 4,000 dogs.
This portrait of Ideal Weather hangs in the IKC office and is part of a collection of portraits of our Best in Show winners from the early years at International Amphitheater.
Four other Old English Sheepdogs have claimed Best in Show at IKC:
CH Fezziwig Raggedy Andy (1966)
CH Masquerade Par-T at Su-Gran (1989)
CH Lambluv's Winning Made Easy (1993)

Best of Breed Medallions are back for 2024!!!
These medallions have been an IKC tradition going back as far at the 1930s! Featuring the iconic IKC logo, these will be awarded to each Best of Breed/Variety winner at our shows on January 20 and November 23, 2024.
Just like last year we are allowing medallions for individual breeds/varieties to be sponsored by clubs and individuals. 2024 medallions may be sponsored for $50, which will be good for both shows. A complete list of sponsors will be published in the November show catalog.
