Today, April 2 is National Autism Awareness Day. I want to express how proud our family is of Jacob for all of the struggles he has faced all his life and all of the challenges he has overcome and all of the daily challenges that he still faces… and yet he constantly hits them head on and drills through and has a smile for us all and a hardy contagious gut laugh. He is one of the hardest workers I know. He has a servants heart. He is a salt of the earth kind of guy. He loves Jesus, loves to sing and dance and work and play. He loves to make dog treats and he loves to be a helper. For a kiddo who couldn’t talk in sentences until age 5… for the years of speech and occupational therapy… the ABA therapy… the special education and training… for the support of a constant village of loving family, friends, teachers, therapists, social workers, neighbors and even strangers! We are grateful - because all of this love and care has shaped Mr. Moore into the amazing young man he is today. He has his own dog treat business and he works part time as a custodian, per his dreams. I wish he didn’t have autism. I hate all of the difficulties he has had to face in life because of how his brain is wired… but this autism doesn’t define him or who he is or his value in the world… in Gods eyes… In Our eyes.
We love you Mr. Moore - we celebrate you today!
