As National Shelter Appreciation Week continues, we're sharing a story to warm your heart 💕 Diamond, now Dolly, was in our care for 64 days, patiently waiting for her perfect match. During a Groups Who Care corporate volunteering event, her future mom spotted her and just knew they belonged together. The very next day, she returned to make Dolly part of her family, saying she "just had to be her mom."

These happy stories keep us going at Anti-Cruelty and at shelters all across the nation. Thank you to everyone who helps care for animals like Dolly. Here's to many more lives changed!

Originally in foster care at a shelter in Florida, Gumdrop was transferred to us from Humane Society of Sarasota County through our recent emergency relief efforts. But soon Gumdrop's foster, Vanessa, realized she just missed the sweet pup too much and wanted to adopt!

Shortly after becoming available, we contacted Vanessa, and she took the first flight out. Gumdrop and Vanessa rode back to Florida together and are living their best life! Now, Gumdrop is doing very well after a few days of settling in. ❤️

What an amazing past weekend! 🐾 At our event "Snip It Forward: Spay/Neuter-thon," we provided 64 high-quality spay & neuter surgeries in less than 4 hours! A huge thank you to our incredible staff for ensuring the event ran smoothly and the stellar 23 volunteers who helped make it all possible. Together, we're giving pets a healthier future and helping to control the pet population.

Back in February, we had an adorable litter of Dalmation puppies surrendered to Anti-Cruelty. 🖤 After each pup found their loving forever home, three of those siblings got together for a playdate at the beach! 😎 We're so grateful to these wonderful adopters who've given each pup a life full of joy, love, and friendship! Here's to many more memories together.

This past Saturday, we hosted our final Wellness Fair for the season! Over 600 families brought 957 dogs for vaccinations, check-ups, and pet supplies at Anti-Cruelty’s 11 Wellness Fairs held across the Chicagoland region. Thank you to all the Police Districts, Firehouses, Schools, Community Partners, Cook County Animal and Rabies Control, and donors for helping to make these events possible!

Happy Halloween! 🎃 We welcomed VelocityEHS to our shelter recently to carve some extra spooky bell pepper jack-o'-lanterns treats for our pups. After Halloween tomorrow, the holidays are just around the corner! We’re pawsitively thrilled to announce the launch of our annual Howliday Pet Portraits fundraiser - just in time for the festive season, you can celebrate your furry friends while helping those in need.

For a donation of $30 or more, you’ll receive a one-of-a-kind, tail-wagging portrait of your pet—perfect for gifting or showcasing in your home gallery. Every penny raised will support Anti-Cruelty’s efforts to shelter, feed, and care for homeless and neglected animals.

Here’s how to join the fun:

Poor Chico arrived at Anti-Cruelty in terrible condition. This 7-month-old was surrendered to us underweight with severe mange, anemia, inflammation and infection, and ulceration present on his whole body. Anti-Cruelty staff and volunteers worked tirelessly to ensure he got better—and he did. ❤️ Since arriving in foster, Chico has steadily healed, and he is finally beginning to experience puppyhood. As you can see in these before and after photos, Chico is more than ready for a forever home! His sweet and goofy nature will have you laughing at his antics one moment and melting from his affection the next. Chico is more than just a pet, he's a companion who's ready to share in all of life's adventures with you!

After 288 days in our care, Sailor has finally set sail for his forever home! 🎉⛵ This sweet, patient boy waited for just the right human to come along while in foster care, and now he's ready for his next adventure—finding sunny spots to lounge and laps to curl in.

Sailor's journey is proof that every pet's perfect match is out there—it just takes some time. 💜

A very happy belated birthday to Nino - who turned 13-years old yesterday in our care! Nino is another pet we're featuring this week who was not scooped up by adopters at our recent #ClearTheShelters event. We're hoping this community can help give him the boost he needs to find his forever home! Swing by our adoption center at 510 N. Coco was one of the pups not scooped up at this past Saturday's Clear the Shelter adoption event so we're giving our resident wiggle worm and social butterfly a little extra attention today! Coco is an energetic 4-year-old who was brought to Anti-Cruelty when her previous owner's landlord would not allow her in their building. She is fun-loving, wiggly, and enjoys stuffed toys and romps around our training room. Coco previously lived in a household with kids and was crate- and potty-trained by her original owners. With her jumpy, exuberant nature, she'll do great with someone who can help her burn excess energy with long walks and time outside while also teaching her basic manners like "sit" and "stay." This fun-loving gal would love for you to come down to meet her today! You'll find her at our River North Adoption Center at 510 N. LaSalle - open daily from 12-7PM!

Taffy

Sweet Taffy put on her best bandana and waited patiently all day at Clear the Shelters in hopes of finding her second chance at a forever home. Taffy was originally adopted at the 2017 Clear the Shelters event, and due to her owner tragically passing away after spending seven years together, she returned to our shelter. Taffy was one of only eight dogs who didn’t find a family at yesterday’s event, and while she’s so happy for all of her friends, she just hopes it’s her turn soon.
