Nala has been struggling in the shelter.

While she’s full of love and playful energy, the stress of shelter life has been tough on her. Our hearts ache seeing her overwhelmed, which is why our staff take her out as much as possible—giving her space to stretch her paws, breathe fresh air, and just be a happy, carefree 9-month-old pup. She just needs a family to see her for the wonderful dog she is beyond the bars of her kennel.

This little baby goat was originally found all alone as a stray, but we're so happy because Vincent is off to one of our amazing transfer partners, where he can get started on his next masterpiece. He's even made a friend—a horse! This is neigh doubt the best news EVER!

Senior dogs like Blade are so special. They don't ask for much—just love, a soft bed, and someone to share their golden years with. Blade is ready to give you all the love he has left 🤧

This sweet and easygoing dog was surrendered by his previous family of 9 years due to circumstances beyond their control. Blade spent his whole life under one roof but now needs YOU to be his hero. Despite these unfamiliar surroundings, Blade is still so happy and eager to make a new best friend.

Last week, our MLK Jr. Day of Service was paws-itively amazing! This special service event brought together volunteers to create handmade items for the pets in our care, spreading comfort to so many animals in need! In total, volunteers crafted:

✨ 48 no-sew pet beds
✨ 109 tug toys
✨ 480 cat soccer balls
✨ 970 catnip sachets

A huge thank you to our Anti-Cruelty volunteers for helping welcome 107 visitors who joined in to make this day a success. Together, we made a big difference for our furry friends! 🐱💙🐶

Ziggy had his mom worried sick. He started snubbing his food—only eating if she hand-fed him or begged him to take a bite. The vet found no health issues, but the behavior didn’t stop. It turns out, Ziggy’s picky eating was a stress response that became a habit.

With a little guidance from our ✨FREE✨ Behavior Helpline, Ziggy’s mom learned to shift the focus: stop enticing him and try playful activities before meals to stimulate his appetite. Within a week, Ziggy was back to happily munching on his own. His mom? Relieved, reassured, and confident in her caregiving.

This group of students volunteer throughout the academic year in our Career Learning Program by completing tasks around the shelter like laundry, organizing the newspaper closet, restocking cat litter, and more. Sweet Taffy has been waiting 267 days for her second chance at a forever home. 💔

This sweet girl patiently waited at our Clear the Shelters event last August, hoping for someone to fall in love with her, but sadly wasn’t adopted then and still hasn’t today. 😭 Taffy’s story is heartwarming and heartbreaking: she was originally adopted at the 2017 Clear the Shelters event and spent seven amazing years with her owner. Tragically, she returned to us after her beloved owner passed away.

Now in a loving foster home, Taffy has watched so many of her shelter friends find homes over the past few months. She’s so happy for them, but she can’t help but hope it’s her turn soon.

❄️ Winter is here - it's time to warm up with our adoptable animals! We are thrilled to start the year by opening our shelter for a unique and silly class series where you can connect with both your body and animals in need - Fuzzy Friends Yoga!

Imagine this: a serene yoga session, guided by a skilled instructor, surrounded by the playful energy of adorable puppies or kittens (or possibly bunnies!). As you flow through your poses, these little bundles of joy will be there to nuzzle, cuddle, and bring smiles to your face. It's the perfect blend of relaxation and pure, unfiltered happiness!

But this event is more than just a delightful experience - it's a chance to make a real difference in the lives of animals who need our help. Anti-Cruelty has been a sanctuary for countless animals, providing them with care, love, and a second chance at life for over 125 years. By participating in this fundraiser, you are directly contributing to their mission of creating a healthy and happy community where pets and people thrive together.

This past Sunday, we had a blast at the Field Museum's Cat Cafè for a day filled with cuddles, purrs, and plenty of fun activities! Visitors got to meet some of our adoptable cats while exploring the Field's newest exhibition, Cats: Predators to Pets—an educational look into what makes a cat, a cat.
