Make sure you pick cat safe plants when decorating your home this holiday season!

When choosing holiday decorations, be cautious with plants. Mistletoe, amaryllis lilies, and paperwhites are toxic to cats, and poinsettias can upset their stomachs. Keep any of these plants out of your cat’s reach. Learn more about holiday safety at https://bit.ly/2A8kwHA.

Holidays can pose a number of risks to our furry friends. Risks include the obvious, such as bones and other trash to the less obvious. Keep your cat safe with the following tips:
Candles – Try using flameless candles instead of candles with a live flame. This way if your cat accidentally knocks over the candle, your home is still safe.
Holiday treats – Purchase a veterinarian-approved cat treat instead of sharing some of your holiday food and risking an upset stomach for your cat.
Family and Friends – Prepare your cat for unfamiliar guests coming into your home, by placing them in a separate room that has their litter box, food, water, sleeping place, and toys. This way you can help prevent your cat from becoming distressed by unfamiliar people and the disruption to their routine.

VCA Cat Hospital of Chicago is excited to announce that we continue to be American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA) accredited! AAHA is the only organization to accredit veterinary hospitals in both the US and Canada. Hospitals that are accredited based on a stringent set of standards from pain management pain management, to team training and medical record keeping. According to AAHA only about 15% of practices hold AAHA accreditation. We are so happy to be re-accredited this year, making it 12 years as an AAHA accredited hospital.

Back in 2017 we hosted Dr. Chung-Chun Yang, a veterinarian from Taiwan who was passionate about cats and cardiology (Pictured below with Drs Czerwonky, Thompson and our dear Bella). After spending time with us, learning cat friendly handling techniques, he spent some time with a cardiologist in Wisconsin. Dr. Yang recently reached out to us with an update and we couldn't be more thrilled to hear how the cats of Taiwan are benefiting from his time with us.

He said that, in addition to being Fear Free certified: "Starting in October 2024, we will be dedicating Tuesday mornings exclusively to our feline cardiac patients. This special scheduling is designed to provide a calmer, more tailored experience for our cats, with a focus on cardiology cases." He goes on to thank us for the "wonderful times and invaluable knowledge I gained during my visit to the Cat Hospital of Chicago in 2017. Your work there has been a huge source of inspiration for me."

We are honored to have had such an impact and to know that we are helping kitties in another country!
