This is why genetic testing is so important. The test is quick, easy, and painless, and could save your puppies from inheriting a completely avoidable disease.

For anyone who is feeding raw!! This is huge!

I just switched my kitten over to raw for allergy reasons, while she is still on a primary diet of kibble her raw acts as a “ wet food “. Super scary for cat owners! Raw Feeding Miami is suggesting you cook any raw food for your dogs or cats prior to feeding until there are more answers.

The H5N1 virus – also known as avian flu – has been identified in one batch of Feline Frozen Turkey Recipe. It has resulted in the death of one cat. We have issued an immediate recall of the product.

Customers who purchased Northwest Naturals Turkey Recipe for Cats should check the “Best By” date of the back of the frozen two-pound package. If it is either of the following two dates, they should contact the store where they purchased it for a full refund. Do not feed it to your cats.

We’re finally past the 2wk mark of Nasty being spayed 🎉
Thankfully a couple days prior to her scare, I made a large order through WOOF so every dog had their own!
Nasty is not used to being in a crate consistently, while she had some free time to lounge while I worked or we did small walks down the driveway, it was tough for her to adjust!
Our pupsicles came in handy helping her stay distracted! Ontop of trazodone 😂

So far Issa has not been a fan of the snow 😂
Not the happiest helping with chores, mostly pouted. 90% of the time she was in the heated gator, so drama queen to the max.

So stinking proud of Theo ☺️
He absolutely rocked his puppy class and had very minimal reactions to other dogs, stayed completely in focus when toys and food were offered!
I can’t wait to watch him progress as time goes on. The fun thing about being a trainer is your dogs are normally the most advanced of the class, safe to say our OB Trainer was very impressed with his sits, downs, touch and clicker training.

I wish Michigan would decide on letting the snow stay or not. We had beautiful fluffy snow last week, but it melted within 3 days 😭 I’m tired of the mud and just want it to make up its mind.
Beta had so much fun on our solo hike though, it’s been a while since we’ve hiked and she decided to disappear for 2.5hrs 💀

Finally HOME and feeling so relaxed!
Last weekend I noticed strange discharge and smell coming from Nasty’s back end, immediately felt like something was off and called my primary vet in IL. We started antibiotics saturday suspecting it to be Pyo and sunday night a white milky discharge started. Secured an appt. tuesday AM, so we packed up in the early AM and started our stressful journey.

After bloodwork and an ultrasound our vet didn’t feel like it was pyo, but still advised spaying as Nasty is 8yrs old now. So we scheduled her for early wednesday am, morning of her spay and bloodwork confirmed it was NOT pyo!! 🎉
Pyo is absolutely terrifying, and while I’m incredibly thankful nothing was wrong with nasty, it’s just something I don’t want to mess with.
I’m so very thankful for the team at Animal Hospital of Woodstock for taking such amazing care of Nasty prior to her spay and always being so willing to go above and beyond. I’ve struggled for years being able to trust vets, but with Dr.Emma and her team I’ve been able to learn and understand SO MUCH. Thank you a million times for being amazing and taking such great care of my dogs. 🥹🖤

Nasty is on the road to recovery, and now it’s one less thing we NEVER have to worry about. After this little excursion, any dog of mine who is retired from breeding is so getting spayed. Last weekend was so incredibly stressful and scary, I was terrified we were going to lose Nasty.

I’m fighting the urge to post them and would literally need to do it within the next couple days. I love a nice prick eared dog and was so upset with myself for not doing it with Beta! And Theo’s were too damn heavy to even attempt 😂
Just over 2wks with Issa though, and I am so incredibly excited. I have a good feeling about this one 🖤

I always forget IG stories aren’t always the best for announcing specifics with the time limit. Last week I decided to pull Theo from being available, just so we can continue working on his reactivity! Theo starts his first puppy class next thursday, and I am so freaking excited for him. Wanting to make sure his future owners have a better start to their new life together!
Theo won’t be available till the middle of Jan, unless I decide he needs more work on his reactivity. ☺️

✨"When should I spay/neuter my puppy?"✨

This is a question I get asked frequently! But, truth is, you're going to hear a lot of different opinions on this topic. And unfortunately, there is new info on this all the time, and a lot of vets are not as up to date on the new research and studies being put out, and they are not as well versed on the topic of reproduction (that's why there are special repro vets for us breeders).

Some people will say six months. Some will say two years. Some will even recommend something called a "pediatric spay/neuter" (younger than 6 months). Pediatric spays & neuters are unfortunately done frequently by shelters - and sometimes done as early as 8 weeks...

However, the affects of an early spay/neuter (early meaning younger than 12 months), can be destructive to your dog's health. This like their growth, and their joints, can be negatively impacted.

Growth plates typically don't close fully until around 18 months of age. The reproductive organs are what regulate your dog's growth hormones, which keeps them from growing too big, too quickly and causing joint issues.

Personally, as a breeder (especially of a dwarf breed), I insist that any spays or neuters wait until your puppy is at least a year old.
