We are moving to better serve you!

We are excited to announce starting January 1, 2024 we are joining forces with our sister hospital, VCA Chicago North Animal Hospital. We will be able to serve you even better with the combination of two great teams including more doctors, more veterinary technicians and more appointment availability in a state-of-the-art building.

Your pet’s complete medical records will be transferred to our new hospital, and your myVCA account will be updated accordingly to ensure continuity of care. CareClub memberships also will be transferred to VCA Chicago North. Our goal has always been to provide the highest level of care for you and your pets, and this transition allows us to do exactly that.

You will continue to see our familiar faces at our new location. And, we will continue to offer the same conscientious care that we have provided over the years, now with the combined resources of the VCA Misener-Holley and Chicago North teams.

We are excited about our new hospital and look forward to seeing you and your pets in the new year!

When an infected mosquito bites a pet, heartworm larvae are injected into the skin. These larvae travel through the pet’s body, eventually reaching the heart and lungs. In dogs, large numbers of heartworms clog the heart, disrupting blood flow. In cats, heartworms can cause severe lung inflammation. Heartworm disease can be treated, in some cases, but prevention is the best course of action. All pets should receive a year-round heartworm preventive; speak to your veterinary care team today.

Does your cat have Arthritis Pain? Let's talk about Solensia.

Osteoarthritis (OA) is a complex condition involving inflammation and degeneration of one or more joints. It is sometimes referred to as degenerative joint disease (DJD). Cats with OA experience pain and inflammation in various joints that interfere with daily activities.

What are the Clinical Signs of Arthritis?

Cats can exhibit many different signs when they have OA, and they do not necessarily demonstrate all the same signs all the time. The most common signs cat owners may notice include:
Difficulty getting up and down
Walking stiffly
Lameness in one or more legs
Reluctance to go up or down steps
Reluctance to jump up or down
Reluctance to play
Stiff, swollen, or sore joints
Reluctance to be touched on some parts of the body
Unexpected aggression toward other cats or humans
Hiding more than usual
House soiling (if a cat has difficulty getting in and out of the litter box)
Poor coat condition (because self-grooming becomes difficult)

How is Arthritis Treated?

Unfortunately, there is no magic bullet for treating OA. Once OA is in place, the goal is to manage rather than treat it because OA cannot be cured. OA is a very complex disease, so managing it is complex because the best results come from combining multiple modalities.

Solensia is an option to manage pain.
Solensia is the once-monthly monoclonal antibody therapy, for the control of feline osteoarthritis (OA) pain, administered by a veterinarian. 77% of cat owners reported improvement in signs of pain when their cats were treated monthly with Solensia in a 3-month study. Controls the pain of OA in cats, helping to improve their mobility, comfort and well-being.

Aging cats are prone to a number of diseases, but the three most common are chronic kidney disease (CKD), diabetes mellitus and hyperthyroidism.

These conditions can be difficult to distinguish clinically because all three tend to cause weight loss, increased thirst/urination and a generally unkempt appearance. Blood tests and urinalysis are often required to determine the cause of a cat’s illness and formulate an effective treatment plan.

House soiling, scratching and aggression are the most common behavior problems reported in cats. What begins as an intermittent frustration can increase in frequency or severity to the point that it dramatically affects your relationship with your cat.

If you notice a behavior problem, don’t procrastinate; address the issue as soon as possible. See your veterinarian to rule out medical causes and develop an appropriate treatment plan.
