Trick or Treat!!! Halloween is a time for goodies. Caramel apples, pumpkin donuts, chocolates, and candy corn make for a delicious holiday. It is well known that chocolate can be toxic for our furry friends, but sugary candy can also pose risks for toxicity. Too much sugar can cause stomach upset, excessive thirst, and in severe cases electrolyte changes. If your concerned about a tasty treat your pet has consumed, please reach out to your local DVM or the ASPCA animal poison control for further help.

Halloween Safety Tips: Nothing is scarier than when a pet runs away!

🎃While handing out treats, keep the escape artists away from the door.

👻If you plan on bringing your pet trick-or-treating, please have their tags/microchips updated and have them properly leashed.

✨Another safety tip for both your family and your pet is to ensure visibility, use reflective gear or light-up accessories to keep visible to cars and other people in the dark!

Happy National Dog Day!

Today we celebrate our furry friends who bring joy, love, and companionship to our lives every day. But with the extreme heat and humidity this week, it’s important to keep our dogs safe
and cool.

Heat Safety Tips for Your Dog:

1. Hydrate. Always have fresh water available during outings.
2. Shade & Cool Spots: Keep them in shaded areas during walks or indoors.
3. Avoid Hot Pavements: Walk them early in the morning or late evening when the ground is
cooler to prevent thermal injury to sensitive paws.
4. Never Leave Them in the Car: Even with windows cracked open, the temperature inside
the car can rise dangerously fast.
5. Watch for Signs of Heatstroke: Heavy panting that progresses to distressed or noisy
breathing as heatstroke worsens, restlessness or agitation, drooling, bright red gums,
uncontrollable urination or defecation, and collapse
6. Our French and English bulldog friends and other brachycephalic breeds should remain
indoors as much as possible. Walks outside should be kept short to minimize exposure to
extreme heat and humidity.

Lets keep our pups safe and comfortable so they can enjoy this day to the fullest!

Make this 4th of July safe and enjoyable for the entire family — including your pets!

07/04/2024

We know you want to enjoy the holiday, but loud noises and new people might not be as fun for some pets.

Here is a little reminder to keep your pets safe this week since the 4th and 5th of July are the busiest days for shelters with lost pets!

We're here for any emergencies, but we hope everyone has a happy and safe holiday!

As we gear up to celebrate Memorial Day, let's not forget about the safety of our pets! 🐶🐱 While we honor and remember our heroes, it's important to ensure that our pets stay safe and sound during the festivities.

Here are a few tips to keep your pets happy and healthy this Memorial Day:

Watch the Grill: Keep an eye on the grill to prevent curious pets from getting too close. Hot surfaces and stray sparks can cause burns or other injuries.

Avoid Table Scraps: While those BBQ treats might look tempting to your pet, many human foods can be harmful to them. Keep them on their regular diet and avoid giving them any table scraps.

Provide a Safe Space: Loud fireworks and large gatherings can be overwhelming for pets. Create a quiet, secure space where they can retreat if they feel stressed or anxious.

Keep ID Tags Updated: With all the commotion, pets may be more likely to escape. Make sure their ID tags are up to date with your current contact information, just in case they wander off.

Stay Hydrated: Keep plenty of fresh water available for your pets, especially if it's hot outside. Dehydration can be a serious issue for animals, so make sure they have access to water at all times.

The AVMA proudly joins the World Veterinary Association, HealthforAnimals, and colleagues from around the world in celebrating World Veterinary Day. The 2024 theme is "Veterinarians are essential health workers."

Today's veterinarians are the only doctors educated to protect the health of both animals and people. They work hard to address the health and welfare needs of every species of animal. Veterinarians also play critical roles in environmental protection, research, food safety, and public health. Thank you to all the veterinarians around the world!
