Kathleen has cared for a well-managed cat colony in her Belmont Cragin backyard for years. 🏙️ When a new cat started showing up regularly, she knew it was time to “snip and tip” him to keep the colony stable. Neutering is just as crucial as spaying, as unaltered males can attract unspayed females, leading to unexpected litters and the ongoing cycle of trapping and rehoming. 🐈️

Today is World Spay Day: without accessible spay and neuter and TNR initiatives, Chicago would have more and more kittens overwhelming our local shelters and rescues. 🤲 Give to Tree House today to support efforts like our Community Cats Program and Veterinary Wellness Center, so we can “snip and tip” our city kitties, ensuring a healthier outcome for all.

Bonnie and Clyde may have made a name for themselves with their heists, but Tree House cats Trogdor and Bryn Mawr are giving them a run for their money—just with more zoomies and plenty of Churu! 💰💼 This mischievous yet lovable duo has found their Happy Ending Tail, and by all accounts, they’re living it up—snuggling, playing, exploring, and, of course, plotting their next big adventure.

True to his new namesake, George Costanza (formally Trogdor) is a master of stirring the pot (just with a bit more fur). Meanwhile, Bryn “Meow” watches closely, always ready to follow his lead. When these two team up, shenanigans are never far behind! Bryn encourages George to embrace his quirky side, while George gives Bryn the confidence to be bold. 😻

One night, while their adopter slept soundly, George hatched a master plan—breaking into a cabinet for a late-night treat. 😴🍗 By morning, the evidence was clear: the crime scene was littered with crumbs, and they were caught red-pawed. 🐾 Their success, however, came at a price—a lock was installed to keep their antics in check! 🔒😹

We’ve recently been alerted to a scam involving Tree House Humane Society’s name and former phone number. Scammers falsely claim they can reunite lost pets with their owners—for a fee. In these scams, pet owners who report a missing pet receive calls from someone pretending to be from Tree House, claiming their pet has been found but is injured, and demanding payment for treatment.

If you’re missing a pet and receive a call like this, please be aware that it is a scam. Tree House will never ask for money over the phone to reunite pets with their owners. If your lost pet is brought to our shelter and we can identify them via their microchip (hooray!), we simply ask that you come and reunite with your pet as soon as possible—they miss you!

Last month, during a transfer at Chicago Animal Care and Control, we met Sisko—a two-year-old cat with some serious injuries. 🤕 He had a severe neck wound, complete with stitches and three Penrose drains (soft, flexible tubes that drain fluid from a wound). The gruesome sight would make most people squirm. And that’s not all—he was also anemic, had an injured front limb that will ultimately require amputation, and tested positive for feline leukemia virus. 😲 Despite all this, Sisko was rolling around on the floor of his cage, purring, and eager to meet us. 💚 While we may never know the full extent of the trauma he suffered, we knew we could give him a fighting chance to recover.

In his first few weeks at Tree House, we worked to stabilize Sisko's anemia and treat his neck wound to best prepare him for his much-needed amputation. ⚕️ Due to his feline leukemia diagnosis, Sisko’s immune system is weaker than that of other cats. His neck injury, in particular, has proven difficult to heal—especially since he’s an active cat (think: golden retriever energy!). 🐕️

Despite everything, we're happy to report he’s got a big appetite and is improving every day in foster care. The road ahead is long, but we’re by Sisko’s side every step of the way. 🛣️🧡

❄️ As the temperatures drop, we're warming up with some uplifting updates from our FeLV+ family. 🔥 After saying goodbye to Alto, Khloe Coulee, and Bass, we're grateful to see their legacy live on through the cats who remain with us. Baritone, Tenor, and Cool Kid found their forever homes this past holiday season, and Bunny and Samson followed soon after. Right before Valentine’s Day, Hugs and Kisses joined our café and were adopted in no time! 🤩

Big Bear recently joined the café and has already won the hearts of visitors. 🐻 Don’t wait too long to book an appointment—he might be leaving with a new family any day now!

Malbec’s a wobbly girl, and we promise it’s not the wine! ✖️🍷

This cutie has a condition called Cerebellar Hypoplasia (CH). If you've kept up with Tree House alumni in the past year, you might remember Gravy Boat and Fink—both of whom had the same condition! 🤩 CH is a disability that affects a cat's motor functions. While they are not in pain, CH cats do need some help getting around, depending on the severity of their condition. 💗

Malbec can get around for the most part—in fact, she’s eager to follow her foster family all over the house! It helps if there’s a wall for her to lean on or a rug she can use for extra traction. 👍️

This 4-month-old girl is everything you want in a cat: super playful and equally cuddly. When she gets a little tired, she’d love for you to pick her up and carry her so she can continue to see what’s going on! 🐣

A little pawsitive news we've BEAN waiting to share after some NOODLING around—two of the sweetest feline souls have finally found their Happy Ending Tail! 📕

Bean and Noodle (formerly Een and Crochet—who met each other and became best friends at Tree House!) hit the jackpot with their adopter and have completely transformed their home into a cozy paradise, steadily welcoming all the creature comforts it has to offer. 🎰

From cozy nooks to explore to a heated pad to snuggle up on, this adorable duo has made it their mission to fill their days with their newfound happiness, adventure, and love. Whether it’s chasing interactive laser toys or curling up for some well-deserved cuddle time, Bean and Noodle have truly found a home where they belong. 🏡

Noodle is the outgoing one, always greeting their adopter with special purrs, while Bean takes things at their own pace but never turns down a chance for cuddles and pets. 💕 Together, this inseparable pair has warmed up to their new home and human, filling it with boundless love, laughter, and entertainment. Noodle leads the way, with Bean dutifully following her big sister, learning how to take in the joy of their new chapter.

We may be biased, but we truly believe Tree House cats have the most love to give. From their first moments with us to the bittersweet joy of their adoption, we make sure they’re showered with care. Bouldering has become a popular workout amongst fitness enthusiasts, and we think Mashumaro is also a fan! 🧗‍♀️

We don’t have a rock climbing wall on our adoption floor, but we do have acclimation cages, Crijo cat towers, and high window ledges. Mashumaro spends her free time scaling them all with no help needed, which is impressive considering her visual impairment. 🤩

Whoever adopts this adventurous girl might need to anchor their bookshelves to the wall, because Mashumaro will definitely be checking those out! And from her high vantage point, she’ll make sure that everything’s in order in the household. 👀⛰️

This Valentine’s Day, we’re sharing a heartwarming story of two unlikely friends who found love in the most unexpected way: Dove and Prince. 💞

Dove, a shy 2.5-month-old kitten, came to Tree House through our community cats program. She was born outdoors and wary of humans, but as our behavior capacity wasn’t fully stretched, our team decided to give her a chance at socialization. The prime time for this is under two months old, so we knew it would be a challenging, but worthwhile effort. 🤞

Enter Prince, a 4-year-old male. He also came from the same neighborhood as Dove, but with a rougher start: a painful injury and dental disease. 💥🦷 But when we examined him, we were shocked to find that despite his health challenges, he was incredibly affectionate! It became clear that Prince was a perfect and familiar match to help Dove learn to trust humans. 🤝

A month later, Prince has fully healed from his injury and dental surgery, while Dove—once too shy to leave her den—has fallen head over heels for her Prince. Each day, she watches him interact with humans, growing more confident and curious, her little heart melting with every pet. 🥺

No matter how you feel about the holiday, you can always root for love. 💟

We had an amazing adoption week with 22 going home! 🏡

The standout moments? A trio of siblings, who’ve been side by side (by side) since day one, got adopted together—how sweet is that? 😽😽😽 We also welcomed some brand-new FeLV+ café cats, and their irresistible charm had them adopted in just days! 💕 And let's not forget Honeysauce, who had been waiting nearly six months for his Happy Ending—he’s finally home! 🍯

Almost every cat that found a family this week came to us through shelter-to-shelter transfers—from rural Illinois, Michigan, and Georgia. These shelters often have many adoptable cats but not enough adopters. We're so grateful to our amazing partners for helping us bring these kitties to Chicago, where they could find their perfect homes. 🏙️⬅️🚚

This gal is “mostly blind”—what does that mean? Mashumaro can see light and shadows, so she can see sparkly toys shining in the sunlight and the shadowy silhouettes of Tree House team members in the hallway. ✨️ Due to her limited sight and total deafness, we’ve had to get creative in playing with this cutie. Cat care tech Elizabeth recently discovered that Mashumaro loves to play peek-a-boo! 👻 Standing in the hall outside of colony, Elizabeth will hide behind the wall and pop out in front of the window. Once you pop, the fun don’t stop with Pringles! 🤪 This 4-month-old energetic boy is jumping with excitement at the thought of being adopted, and he can’t wait to show off his play skills with a cat companion in his new home.
