Once again.
Here are 19 dogs who arrived over just 4 days in October, and each one deserves a spotlight. But yesterday alone, we took in 37 MORE. These numbers are heartbreaking. All are available for rescue or adoption!

TRIGGER STACKING – WHEN BEHAVIOUR HAPPENS “OUT OF THE BLUE”

We’ve all had those days when nothing seems to go right and one frustrating thing after another happens to us, leaving us feeling wound up, stressed and ready to explode at the next unsuspecting person who dares to ask us something.

This “unsuspecting” person may think we have a serious behaviour problem or need anger management therapy, when the truth is that we’ve just had a really bad day or even a few bad days and don’t usually behave like this at all.

Dogs are no different and a behaviour that seems completely out of character or happens “out of the blue” is often caused by “trigger stacking”.

A trigger may be anything that increases a dog’s stress levels and has a negative impact on their emotional, mental or physical state.

These may be small things that we may not even notice or seem insignificant to us, but they are all adding to an increasing “stack” of events that may culminate in out of character behaviour.

When stress levels reach a certain point, the next stressful event, however small, may cause an explosive reaction that is completely unexpected.

Instead of just focusing on a particular behaviour and seeing it as a problem that needs to be prevented, take a step backwards, look at the bigger picture, look at events, circumstances or environmental factors that may have played a role leading up to that behaviour.

Being aware of potential stressors and allowing your dog time to decompress, relax and unwind for a few days will often mean the difference between “normal behaviour” and a behaviour that seems completely out of character.

These two were surrendered because their owner was elderly and struggling to care for them. Did not stop at JC Penny for professional photos before coming here, they are just that perfect. They were cuddled up together and the shelter is no place for seniors so they need adoption or rescue right away!

Everyone, meet Boots - a beautiful, affectionate cat who is in desperate need of a home. Boots' current guardian can only keep him until the end of the week. They say they have allergies and new housing restrictions that does not allow animals. Without your help, Boots is at risk of ending up in a shelter, which we want to avoid at all costs.

Boots deserves a loving, safe, and permanent home where he can thrive. If you or someone you know has room in their heart and home to welcome this sweet kitty, please reach out immediately.

Abuela was picked up by a member of a our field staff that found her looking thin and boney. She is a senior girl and needs to get out of hera to prevent her from getting sick. She is very sweet and sad about ending up here.

URGENT: HELP NEEDED FOR SHADOW AND HIS MOM

This is Shadow, and his mom is in a tough situation. She has to move tomorrow and still has no place to go.

Shadow’s mom has been searching for an apartment around $900/month that allows pets and is near public transport. They’ve been through so much together, and the thought of them being separated is heartbreaking.
