Baby it’s cold outside, and only gettin’ colder! Keep your pets happy and safe from the temps, whether you’re making your way into the clinic or getting your daily exercise. Here’s some tips:
🐶 Big dogs with medium-long fur coats: keep walks to 10 mins or less (assuming it’s 25 degrees or colder!)
🐕 Big dogs with short fur coats and small dogs: keep walks to 5 mins or less (assuming it’s 25 degrees or colder!)
🧥 All dogs: need coats and paw protection from salt/freezing sidewalks (booties are best, but if your pup won’t tolerate them we like Musher’s Secret Balm!)
🚗 For travel to Wagnolia in extreme cold - cats, tiny dogs, and puppies should rideshare or drive (even if you live super close!)
🐈 🌯 Cat burrito? Yup! Warm up a towel in the dryer and fully wrap your cat in it. These cuties aren’t used to being outside and just think about how much they love those cozy radiator spots (much like those bully breeds 🐶)! Cats will love this for fall, winter, and spring!

We know medical concerns can pop up unexpectedly, and finding an appointment on short notice can be a struggle. That's why we offer same and next-day appointments for urgent but non-life-threatening issues. If your pet isn't feeling their best, give us a call at 773-654-1539 to see if an urgent care appointment is right for them!

These appointments are scheduled on a first-come first-served basis at the discretion of the doctor on staff. If you believe your pet is experiencing a life-threatening emergency please go to a veterinary ER such as MedVet or Premier.

New Year’s Eve is a blast for us - but all that noise? Not so fun for our pets! Help your fur angels stay safe and cozy tonight, here are some ideas:

🐾 Set up a quiet, comfy spot with their favorite blanket and toy
🐾 Turn on some calming music or white noise to muffle the heightened noise outside 
🐾  Take your pup for an early walk before the noise kicks in
🐾 Stay relaxed - your calm energy will help them relax too

Hey Uptown! Wagnolia is on a mission to give to pets in need this season.

We are continuing to collect donations for the rest of the month for and we need your help! Got any unused and unexpired pet products? Drop them off at the clinic, and we’ll make sure they go to animals who really need (and can really use!) them. 🎁

Need ideas? Think food or treats, cozy blankets for shelter pets to snuggle, Kong toys for enriching playtime, towels to help with cleanup…you get it! Also consider Uber and pet store gift cards for fosters who often take in pets with very little notice.

Your donation means full bellies, warm beds, and wagging tails for these friends waiting for their forever homes.

Thank you to everyone who attended this year’s Winter Walk on Wilson! 🐾❄️ How was that already a week ago?!

Over 100 people came through Wagnolia for tours, sweets, cider, and of course, our treat bar for the pups and kitties! 🧁

We met so many new furry friends and even scheduled appointments for some new patients (reminder to get your wellness exams scheduled!)! Wagnolia absolutely loves to connect with our community and share our passion for patient-centered care with the help of 🐶🐱 

We hope everyone enjoyed getting a peek behind the scenes at our clinic! 💙

Wagnolia is so excited to be part of the Walk each year, and this year we're doing something extra special - a drive for the Friends of Chicago Animal Care and Control

Stop by Wagnolia with your unused and unexpired pet products and we'll donate them to FCACC to help animals in need - especially during our freezing Chicago winters.

Thanksgiving is considered a time for friends, family, and food, but it’s also an opportunity to reflect on the history that brought us here.

While this holiday celebrates togetherness, its history is often overlooked. Practicing medicine requires consideration of scientific evidence, similar to the relationship between education and history; the former requires an accurate account of the latter to be useful and meaningful. This year, we’re showing gratitude to our incredible team by giving them time off for self-care - they are the heart and soul of Wagnolia, and their well-being is our priority. As such, we will be closed this Thursday and Friday.

It's U.S. Antimicrobial Awareness Week 🦠 In 2019 , Wagnolia was born out of a commitment to evidence-based medicine, patient safety, and public education - a vision rooted in the One Health philosophy: the interconnectedness of animal, human, and environmental health.

This week, we’re spotlighting antibiotic resistance, a shared challenge between humans and animals. Our close bonds with pets - sharing couches, pillows...and sometimes snacks - mean we also share germs, including antibiotic-resistant bacteria.

Wagnolia’s Antimicrobial Stewardship Program helps protect your pet, your family, and the broader community by:
✅ Evaluating your pet's history to recommend the right vaccines - because prevention reduces the need for antibiotics
✅ Using diagnostics like cytology and cultures to target infections effectively
✅ Following veterinary guidelines to ensure antibiotics are used responsibly
✅ Exploring non-antibiotic treatments when possible

Yesterday, we joined experts at Chicago’s One Health Conference to learn more about Antimicrobial Stewardship and bring back strategies to strengthen our program. Together, we’re taking steps to ensure a healthier future for all. 💙

Meet Wren, a star patient who’s been feeling a whole lot better after her COHAT (Comprehensive Oral Health Assessment & Treatment)! 🦷 Her owners, guided by a vet dentist friend, came to us after learning just how impactful oral care can be for our furry friends.

Wren’s owners shared how “she can’t voice to us pain and discomfort, but she can act out,” and that there’s been “a shift in her overall calmness and demeanor since the extractions.” After 13 (!!) extractions, Wren is more relaxed, and we’ve even noticed a positive change in her behavior here at the clinic. 🐾

Her story is a great reminder that dental care isn’t just a luxury - it’s a crucial part of a pet’s overall health. Just like us, pets benefit from regular checkups to catch issues early. Teeth are a part of the body like any other, and routine care can make all the difference. 💙

Shoutout to our exceptional Office Manager, Emma, who wears SO many hats to keep Wagnolia running smoothly! 🪄

From working with our clinical team, overseeing the front desk, and partnering with specialty doctors to ensure every patient can access the best treatments when they need them most - her priority is providing every pet and client with top-notch care.

Plus, she’s the reason we’re always stocked up with the supplies and meds needed to keep tails wagging and whiskers twitching (spray cheese and peanut butter, most notably)! 🐶🐱

Super anxious pets may bolt due to fear responses.
