🐾 Cold Weather Tips for Free-Roaming Outdoor Cats! 🐾

As temperatures drop, free-roaming outdoor cats need a little extra help to stay safe and warm. Here’s how you can make a difference:

❄️ Provide shelter: A sturdy, insulated box or plastic bin lined with straw (not blankets) can be a lifesaver. Make sure it’s elevated off the ground and has a small opening to keep out wind and snow.
❄️ Fresh water: Prevent freezing by using heated bowls or refreshing their water often. Avoid metal bowls—they can stick to little tongues!
❄️ Extra food: Cats need more calories to stay warm. Add extra kibble or wet food to their routine.
❄️ Bang on your hood: Cats often seek warmth under car hoods. Give it a knock before starting your car to make sure they’ve moved to safety.

Let’s work together to protect our feline friends this winter! 💙 🐱 Share these tips to spread the warmth!

Gumdrop and Jujubee, our sweet mother-daughter duo, have started 2025 in the best way possible—with a forever home!

From bring abandoned on a back porch when their human moved out, left with nothing but a cat tree and some dishes last January to living their best lives in a new home filled with love and warmth. 💕

Here's to many more happy endings in 2025! 🐈 🐾

Meet Wednesday and Pugsley: the ultimate duo of cuddles and chaos!

Pugsley’s a curious little adventurer who chirps his way into your lap (especially if snacks are involved), while Wednesday’s a face-rubbing, lap-warming cuddle queen who loves nothing more than being close to her humans.

These two are inseparable—they play together, nap together, and even groom each other like the adorable tag team they are. Once they warm up to you, they’ll be your loyal little companions, always ready for snuggles or shenanigans.

Think Wednesday and Pugsley might be your new roommates? Email us at [email protected] —they’re taking appointments to meet them.

With the devastating fires in LA, our hearts are with everyone affected. 💔

Don’t forget your furry family members when preparing to evacuate. Pack a pet go-bag with these essentials: medications, 3 days of food (wet food is great for hydration), leash, ID collar, bowls, foot protection, and a carrier for smaller pets.

Let’s stay safe and ready together 🐾

Raine and Puddles: 2025 Is Their Year—They’re Manifesting It!

Our Adorable Cats Have Been Waiting Way Too Long—Help Us Find Their Forever Homes!
Let’s face it: Our cats are absolutely adorable, and we’ve posted all their cutest pics—but the social media algorithms just don’t seem to be doing them justice. So, here we are again, hoping to reach the right people because many of our cats have been waiting way too long to find their perfect homes.

After 18 months of crashing at foster homes (and no, they haven’t offered to pay rent), Raine and Puddles have packed their bags and are ready to move into their forever home, we know this is their year!

Raine is the Beyoncé of cats—quirky, confident, and always the center of attention. She starts her day with a “Good morning, human!” (translation: meow) and loves gifting you her favorite toys like royalty. Lap time? She’s all in. Climbing onto your shoulders? Absolutely—she’s got important business on your head.

Puddles, born in June of 2023. She is a snuggle-addicted sidekick. She’s cuddly, and always down for some lap time. When bedtime rolls around, she’s right beside you, ensuring you don’t get lonely. And if guests stop by? Puddles will greet them like she’s the hostess of the year.

These two are bonded tighter than your favorite pair of jeans after the holidays. Splitting them up would be a crime against love and fluff.

2025 is their year—we can feel it, and frankly, so can they. If your life is missing two hilarious, affectionate, shoulder-climbing, lap-snuggling cats, email us at [email protected] to make their wait a thing of the past.

We always love to hear from our alums, but this story is especially adorable 🥰

Satchmo and his sister, Ellie, are CCR alums who have gained two human brothers in the last few years. As cat parents, we often wonder how these life changes will affect our furry companions - and seeing them love each other and get along is simply priceless!

❤️ In Loving Memory of Ernie ❤️

Ernie showed up at a volunteer’s home in early March, sitting on her welcome mat while peering through the glass door. Two days later, we learned Ernie was FeLV+/FIV+, a perhaps three year old, unneutered male with a mouthful of bad teeth. He withstood a dental procedure and came back to us sporting only canines.

Then kismet or serendipity brought a couple into Ernie’s life and changed it forever. On a beautiful April day, Ernie arrived at his new home. He came out of his carrier as if he owned the place. These new digs were going to work out just fine!

He forged a relationship with his new brother Hubert. He adored his human parents, and was happy to cuddle all day long. Unfortunately, in late summer we learned that Ernie’s mouth was again painful, due to a condition called stomatitis. The condition was managed with drugs for some time, but eventually, the treatment became inadequate to give Ernie sufficient quality of life. On a bitter December night, his mom and dad made the gut wrenching, yet altogether right decision to let him go.

Sometimes a year is simply twelve months on the calendar. Sometimes a year, or a portion thereof, must constitute a lifetime. We hope you’ll take a moment to think about Ernie, to consider his life – what it was, and what it might have been. We miss him. Our grief pales in comparison to that of his mom and dad’s loss.

As we enter the new year, it is our fervent hope that we will do more to save lives like Ernie’s. We thank you for your support and for sharing our mission of helping cats in need. To one and all, here’s to a brighter year ahead. We wish you good health, the comfort of loved ones, and peace, both within our hearts and in our world.

Adopter updates remind us why we do what we do! Panda and Ursa, now Kimchi are loving life in their forever home. Their family sent us a nice update.

"Wanted to give an update on how things are going with these beautiful ladies! Can’t believe it’s been 2 months. Safe to say, they bring the biggest joy to our lives. They’re so polite, playful, and cuddly!! Thank you for trusting in us to have them as ours."

Seeing them so happy together fills our hearts with joy. To our incredible community of friends and supporters—this wouldn’t be possible without you!

Patsy and Miata are blossoming in their foster home thanks to the love and patience of their incredible foster parent. 💕

From overcoming litter box quirks to turning a bed into their kingdom (and making their foster mom sleep on the couch 🙃), these girls are thriving. Miata has discovered her love for chin scratches and cozy blankets, while Patsy is slowly learning to trust, even allowing a couple of sneaky pets! 🐈💖

Their foster mom's joy is palpable: "I was so happy, I cried and told everyone who would listen!" Moments like this remind us how transformative fostering can be—for both cats and humans.

Foster homes are a lifeline for cats like Patsy and Miata. They provide comfort, safety, and the time needed to grow and heal. 🌟

🛏️ Your guest room could be their sanctuary.
💬 Your care could spark their first purr.
🐾 Your patience could change their world.

🎄 Holiday Decor vs. Curious Cats 🐾
The holidays are purrfectly magical—but your cat might think your decor is their new playground. Keep it festive and feline-safe with these quick tips:

🐾 Ornaments: Fragile, edible, or salt-dough? Out of paw’s reach.
🐾 Tinsel & Ribbon: Looks tasty, but it’s a no-go (think blockages, not joy).
🐾 Christmas Trees: Anchor that tree—no toppling disasters!
🐾 Toxic Plants: Holly, mistletoe, and poinsettias? Pretty, but poisonous.
🐾 Cords & Candles: Protect cords and never leave flames unattended.

It's always good to be prepared:
Know your nearest 24/7 animal ER and save their contact info.
Keep poison control numbers handy:

🐈 Pet Poison Helpline: 855-764-7661

Remember Jay and Silent Bob?

These two boys were abandoned when their owner moved out of state. Thankfully, their story didn’t end there. They found their way to Chicago Cat Rescue—and, just celebrated their 1 year anniversary, in their forever home!

Their adopter recently shared this sweet update:
"Today marks a year since I adopted Kuiper & Oort (formerly Jay & Silent Bob). Both are doing great and have been fantastic pets. It's been a joy to have them in my life."

From abandoned to adored—this is the kind of happy ending we live for! ❤️

This year, we rescued countless cats and kittens in desperate need—sick, injured, or abandoned. Each has a story, like Siggy’s.

Siggy and her littermates were living under a hospital dumpster for months, with scattered food cans their only support. By the time we arrived, they were living on borrowed time. A volunteer trapped Siggy quickly, but a faulty trap delayed catching the others. Spooked, they vanished into the dumpster's hidden spaces.

When we returned, the dumpster had been emptied and moved. Tragically, the remaining kittens were never seen again. We fear they were lost when the dumpster was emptied.

Siggy is now thriving, but this heartbreaking loss is a reminder: homeless cats are never safe outside. Your support this Giving Tuesday helps us continue rescuing Chicago’s homeless cats and gives more cats like Siggy a second chance.

This , we’re reminded of the tough choices we face when rescuing cats in need. Tapper's story is a perfect example.

Found sick and disoriented on a school playground this past June, he was close to death. But with our volunteers' help, he survived.

Now, Tapper is a strong, 13.5 lb lovebug, though he remains FIV+. FIV+ cats can live long, healthy lives with the right care and attention. Tapper is still waiting for a real foster home.

Will you help us continue saving lives like his? Donate today and make a difference!
