“Plant Chicago’s Mercado de Intercambio is a place for people to swap, not just shop!
Our monthly Mercado de Intercambio hosts over 15 vendors, offers community skill-shares/workshops, and provides a welcoming space for the community to engage in cultivating circular economies. Last year, we hosted 19 Mercados, worked with 30 businesses, provided over $30,000 of local economic support to small food businesses, and over 2/3rd of the business we work with are led by women... 60% of which are BIPOC owned or led.
Every Mercado de Intercambio is a space to share knowledge, skills, and goods. This makes our market unique from so many others. Every month has its own theme that caters to another need in the community. Clothing swaps, medical device swap, knowledge sharing, and so much more! In cultivating these spaces, we are creating stronger, healthier communities with circular economies.
Our work is heavily supported by the support of so many generous volunteers and donors. Consider being an active participant in a circular economy by joining Urban Canopy’s monthly Compost Club and staying up-to-date with what we have going on! 🌱”
