War Dogs Making It Home

War Dogs Making It Home Helping veterans with PTSD/TBI in Chicago. Veterans are paired with highly selected dogs rescued from high kill shelters or surrendered to Morgan’s dogs.
(364)

Morgan’s staff trains these dogs in basic obedience and fundamentals of service for PTSD/TBI veterans. They are taught to interrupt attacks of panic, stress and hypervigilance: hallmarks of PTSD/TBI. Over a 3 – 4 week period the dogs are then introduced to the veterans in bi-weekly group classes. In this safe environment, veterans share their stories, events and concerns with each other while they

learn about their dogs and their dogs learn about them. Under supervision from Elana Morgan they become the trainers of their service dogs. There are unique aspects to our program. The veterans are saving the dogs’ lives, which decreases the stigma of negative labeling in which those who most need help avoid seeking help for fear of looking weak. The veterans participate in the training of their service dogs in an ongoing program with other affected veterans. The time and cost to get the service dogs in our program is shortened by years and tens of thousands of dollars. Most veterans wait in vain for years to get a service dog. Our program pairs them with a service dog in 6-8 weeks. The cost from rescue to graduation is $5,000 and the cost for the entire two year program of classes and group support is $10,000. There is no cost to the veteran to be in our program or for their service dog.

Hi to all the War Dogs world and family!

I’m afraid I come to you today with some bad news.

The founder of War Dogs, Elana Morgan, has suffered a stroke. She is currently recovering in a hospital in Chicago.

Elana has given her life to War Dogs, in more ways than one. She and Morgan’s Dogs have supported our Vets and rescued service dogs for the last 15 years without question. Sometimes to the detriment of her own business. Morgan’s Dogs has been the backbone of War Dogs in the way of training, kenneling, arranging for veterinary assistance, and food for the dogs that service our veterans. We have not lost ONE to su***de and for that we are forever grateful to Elana and her team at Morgan’s Dogs.

Today, I come to you asking for your support. Elana has given so much to the point where her health has suffered. Morgan’s Dogs is in financial distress. And Elana has sacrificed going without needs that would help her support War Dogs. So on top of Morgan’s Dogs having difficulty, she does not have health insurance. I know, that would mean that she is in bigger trouble than just the business side of Morgan’s Dogs and War Dogs.

There about 125,000 followers on this page. If each of you gave $1, it would go a long way toward alleviating the problem. PLEASE, GIVE AS MUCH AS YOU CAN! Her hospital bills will be well into the six figures. So any thing you can spare will help.

You can make your donation directly on the War Dogs website:

I beg you to help out War Dogs and Elana Morgan to continue the work that is so desperately needed for our veterans. Don’t let War Dogs stop doing its good work and at the same time, give back to Elana who has given so much to our veterans and service dogs.

Thank you!

🇺🇸🐕‍🦺❤️🐾 Today at War Dogs class, after many weeks of being schooled by War Dog Ezra, Army Combat veteran Nicholas, was matched up with his rescued service dog, War Dog Jorja! So great to see the smiles and I think both are in love! Jorja was originally rescued by Danny and Ron’s rescue in South Carolina! Big thanks to those two who have helped make so many veterans happy! Nicholas and Jorja will now work hard towards their vest and tags! Go War Dogs!🇺🇸🐕‍🦺❤️🐾
