Great tips from Nana Paws in Michigan
Time for the holidays
Between the stress of having the In-laws over and being on clean up duty from dropped foods, your pup can develop quite the upset belly.
We aren't the only ones who get stressed over family and friends coming over, lots of activity, decorating etc, your pup has a lot of changes going on also. Dogs have the innate ability to sense when we are stressed and overwhelmed, so it's not uncommon for them to develop an upset belly over our stress.
Decorations go up, there is a lot of hustle and bustle going on and all of a sudden their home is filled with noise, new faces, smells, everyone calling their name, kids wanted to pet them, and good 'ol long lost Aunt Mary that is going to sneak your pet "treats" and kiss on your pup....... OVERLOAD!
So, how do we help our pups if they can't handle all the changes or if they got a few to many "scraps" from Aunt Mary and the kids?
Give them space......
1. If you aren't boarding your pup, find a quiet room that can be off limits to everyone so your pup can have space and not get overwhelmed.
2. Calming chews are their friend. This can help take some tension off your pup and let them relax (No you can't have one of their chews LOL).
3. Food puzzles and Toppl toys can be great to keep your pup entertained and distracted during the family dinner.
Upset belly remedies......
1. Do a bland diet for a day or two. Try Koha bland diet mix. This will often help settle upset bellies from eating things they should not have eaten.
2. Add pumpkin. This can also help firm up loose stools.
3. Add a probiotic. These will often help balance out your pups digestive tract and get them back to normal.
