Ever noticed how some dog statues have shiny noses or paws? 🐾 That’s wear from years—sometimes decades—of people rubbing them for luck, love, or simply tradition. Many people believe there is luck to be had from rubbing a statue and others simply cannot resist booping a nose or giving a head pat to a good boy/girl! There are many statues of four legged friends and heroes all over the world with their own wear patterns, but the repeated rubs can damage the statue so try to refrain if you ever visit one of these. 😋

✨ Famous dog statues around the world:
🐶 Hachikō (Tokyo, Japan): A tribute to the famously loyal Akita. People touch his statue near Shibuya Station to honor unwavering devotion.
🐾 Greyfriars Bobby (Edinburgh, Scotland): Locals and tourists rub his nose for luck, though it's caused so much wear that restorers have had to step in to save it.
🦴 Fala (Washington D.C., USA): FDR’s beloved Scottish Terrier stands beside him at the memorial. Visitors often reach out to touch him—his ears and back show the polish of affection.

Next time you see a statue with a gleaming patch, remember: it’s not just wear—it’s love.💚

🚨New Client Alert🚨 Josie is a 17 year old miniature dachshund who is living her golden years with grace, grit, and wheels. 🚴‍♀️ She has disc disease that’s left her back legs a bit weak, but don’t think for a second that slows her down. With a sling assist for walks and a custom wheelchair for zooming around the house, Josie is still very much on the move. 🏃‍♀️💨 One of Josie’s favorite nighttime routines is cruising around the house in her wheels, doing slow and steady laps like the quiet night owl she is. She may not be as playful as she once was, but her love for her classic lamb chop toy is forever. It’s her ride-or-die squeaky companion, and nothing else compares. 🥰 Josie is happiest when she’s catching some sun, sprawled out in a warm patch of light, snoozing peacefully without a care in the world. She’s a reminder to move at your own pace, treasure the little things, and always make time for a nap in the sun. ☀️💤 Welcome to the Green Paws Family, Josie! 💚🐾

😝Happy 😝 Another week showcasing some adorable pups with their lovely tongues sticking right out! What is the dog equivalent of cat "blepping"? 🤣

Read below to debunk another commonly believed myth! 🕵😎
The saying "a dog's mouth is cleaner than a human's mouth" has been around for a long time, but is it true? Comparing the mouths of a dog and a human is like comparing apples and oranges. While there is some overlap in the types of bacteria found in different species, dogs' mouths contain a variety of dental bacteria that you will not find in yours. Dog mouths contain approximately 600 different germ species, compared to 615 and counting varieties in human mouths. So in short, the answer is no. However, there are similarities. Porphyromonas, for example, is a bacterial family that causes periodontal disease in both canines and humans. Billions of germs slowly accumulate on the surface of the teeth, causing bad breath, gum recession, tooth root abscesses, and bone damage around the tooth roots. 🦷

🌻Happy First Day of Summer🌻 We hope everyone has a wonderful weekend! 🥰

New to Chicago? Here are some fun facts and events that make Summer in Chicago special! 😎
1. The Chicago Park District manages the city's 26 miles of open and free lakefront for the enjoyment of Chicago residents and visitors. Admission to Chicago's beaches is free. The beach season runs from the Friday before Memorial Day through Labor Day. Lifeguards are only on duty during beach season, from 11 am - 7 pm. There are approximately two dozen sand beaches along the shoreline! ⛱
2. The Chicago Park District's Movies in the Parks series features dozens of different films across neighborhoods from Rogers Park to South Shore, and runs at some top destinations like Belmont Harbor and Osterman Beach. But that's not all—you can also catch free showings outside Wrigley Field at Gallagher Way and during the Millennium Park Summer Film Series. 📽
3. You can go on a date pretty much anywhere. During the summer, every park in the city is in full bloom, outdoor eating is ubiquitous and you can take a long, romantic stroll through your neighborhood without worrying about frostbite. Chicago's rooftop bars have stunning views of the lake and the city's architecture! 🥨
4. There are farmers markets all across the city six days a week. From Andersonville to Woodlawn, neighborhoods across the city bring in Midwestern vendors selling fresh fruits, veggies, meat and more. Get inspired by ingredients from the same farmers that serve Chicago's best restaurants, or enjoy the live music and other free activities these markets have to offer. 🍎
5. Summer means concert season is booming! Pitchfork, Lollapalooza, North Coast and Riot Fest all host world-class talent, attracting all of your music-loving friends from across the country. Even if your favorite band isn't playing at a fest, they'll probably roll through Chicago on a tour. 🎶

"If the cruelties of slavery could not stop us, the opposition we now face will surely fail." - Frederick Douglass

Overview of the importance and significance of Juneteenth:
On “Freedom’s Eve,” or the eve of January 1, 1863, the first Watch Night services took place. On that night, enslaved and free African Americans gathered in churches and private homes all across the country awaiting news that the Emancipation Proclamation had taken effect. At the stroke of midnight, prayers were answered as all enslaved people in Confederate States were declared legally free. Union soldiers, many of whom were black, marched onto plantations and across cities in the south reading small copies of the Emancipation Proclamation spreading the news of freedom in Confederate States. Only through the Thirteenth Amendment did emancipation end slavery throughout the United States.

But not everyone in Confederate territory would immediately be free. Even though the Emancipation Proclamation was made effective in 1863, it could not be implemented in places still under Confederate control. As a result, in the westernmost Confederate state of Texas, enslaved people would not be free until much later. Freedom finally came on June 19, 1865, when some 2,000 Union troops arrived in Galveston Bay, Texas. The army announced that the more than 250,000 enslaved black people in the state, were free by executive decree. This day came to be known as "Juneteenth," by the newly freed people in Texas.
