✨Happy ✨ We've got an adorable duo this week and we are so excited to introduce you all to them! Everyone please say hello to little Miss Ellie and Miss Izzy. 🐶 These two pups were rescued as a bonded pair and it's pretty clear how much they love each other! Both Izzy and Ellie take a good amount of time to warm up to new people, but their primary pet care specialist has become one of their favorite humans. 🥰 The girls love to show off their tippy taps as they excitedly run towards the door to greet their humans! Izzy and Ellie are truly living the life of royalty, they even sometimes get quesadilla bites in their food as a treat. 😋 We love our rescued members of the Green Paws Family! 💚🐾

🚨New Client Alert🚨 Introducing the magically mystifying Mr. Puccini! He is a two year old long-haired Dachshund with the silkiest, shiny fur coat. 🐶 Puccini's middle name should be Houdini because he sure knows how to escape the grasp of his pet care specialists who are just trying to take him out to potty! 🤣 Once potty time is done and you've come back inside, Puccini's nervousness magically disappears and he shows you his belly. 😋 Welcome to the Green Paws Family, Mr. Puccini! 💚🐾

It's which means we are about halfway through the week! 😎 Today we are sharing some adorable fun facts about chipmunks. I'm sure we are all curious about those tiny little creatures you catch a glimpse of in a bush and then they magically disappear into the foliage. 😋

Did you know that chipmunks are 7.2 to 8.5 inches (18.5 to 21.6 centimeters) long including their tails, which can account for nearly half of their length. 😱 There are 25 species of chipmunk, 24 of which live in North America. Chipmunks are excellent tree climbers and swimmers who live in a variety of habitats, including plains, mountains, forests, and deserts. 🐿 Chipmunks hibernate in cold weather, which means they spend most of the winter sleeping in their dens. One chipmunk can gather up to 165 acorns in a day! In just two days, a chipmunk can collect enough food to last an entire winter, although chipmunks typically hoard much more food than necessary. ❄️

Lastly, my favorite fun chipmunk fact of them all! Chipmunks and other small animals have fast reaction times because they process information more quickly. They are essentially seeing everything around them in slow motion. 🤯

Welcome back to ! 😎 This week we wanted to share some important notes to keep in mind when preparing and serving your Thanksgiving feast. 🍁

1. Keep the feast on the table—not under it. Eating turkey or turkey skin—sometimes even a small amount—can cause a life-threatening condition in pets known as pancreatitis. Fatty foods are hard for animals to digest, and many foods that are healthy for people are poisonous to pets, including onions, raisins, and grapes. 🍇
2. No pie or other desserts for your pet. Chocolate can be harmful for pets, even though many dogs find it tempting and will sniff it out and eat it. The artificial sweetener xylitol—commonly used in gum and sugar-free baked goods—also can be deadly if swallowed by dogs or cats. 🥧
3. Put the trash away where your pet can’t find it. A turkey carcass sitting out on the table, or left in a trash container that is open or easily opened, could be deadly to your family pet. Dispose of turkey carcasses, bones, and scraps—and anything used to wrap or tie the meat, such as strings, bags, and packaging—in a covered, tightly secured trash bag placed in a closed trash container outdoors (or behind a closed, locked door).
4. Watch the exits. Even if your pet is comfortable around guests, make sure you watch them closely, especially when people are entering or leaving your home. While you’re welcoming hungry guests and collecting coats, your pet may make a break for it and become lost outdoors. 🚪
5. Along with houseguests comes everything they carry with them, and handbags, backpacks or suitcases can be possible hazards for your pets if they stick their noses where they don’t belong. Things like sugar-free xylitol gum, candy bars, and human medication can really put a damper on your holiday plans if ingested by your pet. Have guests hang their bags on hooks rather than leaving them on the floor and keep the guest room door closed to protect your pets. 👜

TGIF! It's time for another ! 🐶 We are happy to spotlight Daisy and Leo this week! Daisy is a playful beagle who loves to sniff out all the best smells. Leo, an overly friendly Australian Cattle dog, adores meeting new people! 🥰 Both pups are training hard to get a job as a firefighter by opening up fire hydrants. So far, they’ve only mastered jumping on them! 😂 Daisy and Leo love to go on walks and they will often lead their pet care specialist to the closet fire hydrant to earn a treat. Their owners taught them this fun trick and we swear it never gets old! 😋

🚨New Client Alert🚨 Everyone please wish a warm welcome to Mr. Jasper! He is a 5 year old mutt mix who loves to show off all his treat bones to new visitors. 🐶 A fun quirk of Jasper's is that he loves to stand on his hind legs and put his front paws on your arm for support! He just can't get close enough to his favorite humans. 🥰 Jasper is also OBSESSED with the mailman! He will sit and wait for the mailman when out on a walk because they usually come bearing treats. 😋 Welcome to the Green Paws Family, Jasper! 💚🐾

Bringing you another this week! 😎 "Leave the Leaves" is a campaign by the National Wildlife Federation that encourages people to leave leaves on their properties instead of raking them up and bagging them for the trash. 🍂

Why should you "Leave the Leaves"? 🍁
1. Wildlife habitat: Leaves provide shelter for many types of wildlife, including birds, lizards, turtles, frogs, and insects. These animals help keep pests down and increase pollination in your garden.
2. Soil health: Leaves act as a natural mulch, preventing soil erosion and retaining moisture. As leaves decompose, they add nutrients to the soil, improving its fertility.
3. Reduced pollution: Blowing and raking leaves often involves using fossil fuel-powered equipment, which can produce greenhouse gas emissions and air pollution.
4. Water quality: Leaves are natural fertilizers, reducing the need for chemical fertilizers that pollute waterways.
5. Reduced time spent cleaning: You can spend your time doing other activities instead of cleaning up leaves.

It's another combo Friday, we've got a and a feature for you all! 🥳 Everyone please wish a warm welcome to Ivy! She's a rescue from CACC with a very sad backstory. 🥲 Ivy was found wandering the city streets after her original owners left her behind, but little did she know that the perfect human for her was right around the corner! Ivy's new furever mom fell head over heels for her and we can tell Ivy feels the same. 🥹 She's an incredibly sweet, gentle, and goofy pup who is now living the dream in her furever home! We are so happy that Ivy and her mom found Green Paws Chicago because it means we get to see pictures of that adorable Pittie face all the time. 🥰 We love our rescued members of the Green Paws Family! 💚🐾

When it's sunny out, Toby loves to enjoy the sun rays and warmth! 🚨New Client Alert🚨 Introducing, the three B's! Mr. Bubba is a beautiful Australian Shepherd mix pup and his kitty siblings are Barney and Bo. 😸 Bubba is a major cuddle bug! Say goodbye to personal space on the couch or in bed because Bubba is going to be as close to you as possible at all times. 😋 Barney and Bo are their own silly little duo! If you're having trouble locating one of the cats, they may be hiding in the bathroom... in the bathtub. 🤣 There's nothing better than rolling around on a cold, smooth surface like the tub! The three B's are such a dynamic trio and we are so happy that they are a part of the Green Paws Family. 💚🐾

🐾Happy 🐾 Meet Georgie and Lily, the charming French bulldog sisters who are ready to steal anyone's heart! 🐶 Georgie, a spunky 7-year-old, thrives on affection and loves being the center of attention. Her older sister, 10-year-old Lily, is just as sweet and enjoys sharing cuddles with her younger sibling. 🥰 These affectionate pups love curling up in bed with their pet sitter, ensuring snuggly nights filled with warmth and love. 🥳Happy 🥳 Everyone please wish a warm welcome to Aurélie! Born and raised in France, Aurélie moved to the lovely city of Chicago around 12 years ago. 🇫🇷 Raised in an animal loving family, Aurélie grew up with many different types of pets and she can’t imagine a life without them! Aurélie gained extensive pet care experience from volunteering at various shelters in both France and Chicago as well as from her dog walking career which she started several years ago after moving to Chicago. 🐶 In her free time, Aurélie enjoys going on long hikes with her children, husband, and her precious 4 year old Staffie pup named Colette! We are so happy to have Aurélie as a part of the Green Paws Team 💚🐾

It's and we wanted to showcase a very special kitten to celebrate! 😸

Back in mid-June, a well-meaning woman walked into the Greenpaws office with a 4 week old kitten on a pillowcase. She had found the kitten in an alley near her home and she believed we were a rescue. The kitten had a very obvious open neck wound and she looked generally weak. Our Operations Manager, Elise, immediately stepped in and knew they had to take this kitten home for proper care. After a costly vet visit, the kitten's wound was cleaned and bandaged up and she went back home with Elise to hopefully regain her strength. Elise and their partner named the kitten Carmy, after the main character in the show The Bear! Before their very eyes, Carmy has blossomed into an energetic and spunky kitten. She was diagnosed with Cerebellar Hypoplasia, but it does not cause her any pain! CH cats can live very normal lives, it just means their cerebellum is not fully developed. Carmy still runs around the apartment like a crazy kitten, she just bounces off the furniture and walls sometimes. 😋 Carmy is also Office Dog Pemby's new best friend! They rough-house and chase each other around the apartment constantly. When playtime is over, Carmy loves to cuddle up to Pemby and even gives her baths! 🥰 The first picture was a couple weeks after Elise brought Carmy home, the second is Carmy now at around 3/4 months old. Safe to say, we all adore Carmy more than words! 💚
