Vertical farming methodologies will be employed to grow organic produce and used as its organizational business operations. The resulting product will be sold to local merchants at a discount to market. Local schools and the community will be encouraged to visit the facility in order to learn more about urban agriculture. There will also be opportunities for regular guest to attend to their own ae
roponic tower. The facility will also be utilized as an urban renewable energy farm, inclusive of electric generating wind turbines and solar panels located on the rooftop and an internal geothermal heating & cooling system. The educational elements will combine urban farming and renewable energy education, where guests will learn about the different complexities of the different technologies located on site. The non-profit will benefit the Organic's of Chicago Community Outreach Center. The profit from the growing facility will be used to the living expenses of the residents in the upper-floor apartments of the facility. This will house the actual outreach center. A part of the complex will be the converted to therapy center with volunteer doctors, a movie theater, billiard room, library, etc. The remaining area will be turned into vanilla boxed apartments for the residents. The residents may be anything from run-away minors, to domestic violence to homeless citizens desiring a better life. One can stay at the facility for six months to restructure their life; however, in order to live at the residence center, they must agree to work at the growing center. The organization will pay the employees minimum wage, while they learn to effectively maintain a job - they will not have access to more than a per diem and the rest of the earned moneys be put into a fund. This fund will then be used as a deposit for an apartment when the resident/employee leaves the center.
