Windy City Mushers

Windy City Mushers We are a group of like minded dog owners that participate in dogsledding, bikejoring, scootering, skijoring, and canicross in the Chicago area.

We provide mentoring, training, fun, and an active outlet for your energetic pup. Did we mention fun? Windy City Mushers, while it refers to this great city of Chicago, was actually born in St. Louis, MO several years ago. I owned a one year old Siberian Husky (my first husky passed away) and a five year old chocolate Lab at the time and was looking for another avenue to exercise them. Having a hu

sky it was only natural that I try to have him pull me. He pulled me on my bike and rollerblades for the most part. It was during this time I started doing more research and found out that these were actual forms of dog mushing. In particular, bikejoring. At this point I was hooked. I wanted to learn all I could about bikejoring and the whole world of mushing. The hardest part was being from St. Louis and having to do all the research on my own. I didn't have anybody that could mentor me. I did the best I could with the resources available and developed my own training techniques before eventually finding several mentors. They guided me in my training, educated me on dogs, nutrition, and other aspects of the dog mushing world as well. There was so much to learn. Fast forward to today. I now live in the suburbs of Chicago. I've met many amazing people in the area that have the same passions as I do. I added a few more dogs to my stable and and have gotten into racing. I was successful last year with some older dogs and some others that were essentially still pups. I was able to do well enough to gain sponsorships from Howling Dog Alaska and Wolfmoon Kennels. We have high expectations for the upcoming season. My core events will be the single and two dog events in bikejor, skijor, and scooter while also racing 4-dog sled races. The creation of this page and my group of the same name are a direct reflection of the hard work and dedication I put have put forth to be successful. During my training and dogpark outings I have met so many people that have never seen or heard this sport and want to try it out. Many people don't even know about single and two dog forms of mushing, also called "urban mushing." So, hopefully, this page will bring dog powered sports to the forefront and allow for more people to become active with their pets. This is a place where someone new to the sport can ask questions and learn from myself and others who have already been through all the pitfalls and challenges of learning how to bikejor, scooter, or even dogsled.
