*IMPORTANT SHIPPING NOTICE*
After having gecko shipments delayed more than usual this time of the year, I tried to do some digging on why this is happening, besides the obvious holiday traffic. The last several weeks all I was getting were it was due to “operational delays” which is a blanket statement that could mean a lot of things. So here’s what seems to be the real (and massive) issue..
Due to the UPS Cargo Plane crash that killed 14 people last month, the FAA has grounded all models of that specific plane until they are inspected and deemed suitable to fly again. Because of this, FedEx is short several dozen planes (I have heard close to 40) and now up to 85% of all shipments are now being trucked to their destination. Meaning if I ship a gecko to the Indianapolis hub and that package is supposed to end up in Seattle, there’s a good possibility that gecko could be on a cross country truck trip the entire way there versus flying which obviously means that the package would be in transit for several days.
I unfortunately am still trying to locate a shipment of geckos that I had shipped out on MONDAY. Long story short, no matter how much of an expert you think you are at shipping in cold weather, please do not ship over the next several weeks. The holiday season + the cargo plane shortage is making it next to impossible to ship without delays. Wait until 2026!
I have several customers that will unfortunately have to wait until 2026 to receive their gecko(s) - waiting a few additional weeks for holiday traffic to clear out sure beats their animals being stuck in the mail for a week and/or receiving their animals dead.
