As a longtime west side resident, business owner, employer, and now commercial property owner, I have a deep respect and affection for Chicago’s west side neighborhoods, including some of the city’s most historically underserved communities. When I look at our choices this November, I am struck by the stark difference between the two tickets’ attitude toward and relationship with their respective communities. One has consistently given back through public service and education; the other has systematically exploited for fame and fortune.

I try not to mix politics with business often, but am compelled to share my support for the candidates that I believe will contribute to strengthening communities like mine, including promoting respect for public education and freedom from gun violence.

To any See Spot Run clients whose views differ, rest assured that we will not be discussing the election with your dogs or asking them who you plan to cast your vote for. Like Governor Walz, we believe in minding our own business. ❤️

Important information, especially as summers get hotter. A voluntary head dunk can be fun to train and potentially save your pet from the consequences of overheating.

As summers continue to get warmer year-over-year, new research from the Penn Vet Working Dog Center (PVWDC) reveals the best way to prevent dogs from overheating.

After comparing various cooling methods, researchers found when a dog voluntarily submerged their head in clean, room-temperature water to retrieve a treat or toy, they not only cooled off faster, but also avoided dangerous post-exercise temperature spikes.

“During heat stress, blood flow to the head, nose, tongue, and ears is increased,” said Cynthia M. Otto, VMD, PhD, lead author of the study and executive director of the PVWDC. “Cooling the tissues of the head allows for rapid cooling of the whole body with limited amounts of water.”

Three littermates we are pleased to be working with. We already revealed Bruno’s breed make-up (he’s the puppy in the third photo). His mom is a mini Australian shepherd, but you can see those Aussie traits more clearly in his siblings. Also, the middle puppy has heterochromia. DNA 🧬 is fascinating.

Got long lines?? Arguably the most useful and versatile training tool on the market, a long line can give shy dogs the freedom to explore novel environments on their own terms, play a critical role in developing off leash attention and responsiveness, and allow you to practice distance cues and exercises safely in unfenced outdoor locations. 🌳🌳🌳🐕🎾🎾🎾
