Dave's Blue Tongue Skinks Chicago - Dave's Skinks - We specialize in the ethical keeping and breeding of Northern Blue Tongue Skinks and Irian Jaya BTS As of 2016, I had multiple skinks and breeding successfully.
(31)

We specialize in healthy, captive-bred Northern Blue Tongue Skinks native to Australia, Irian Jaya Blue Tongue Skinks native to Indonesia and Papua New Guinea, and Centralian Blue Tongue Skinks native to Australia. Please check out the main website for more info including FAQ, Care, and my Blog. Photos of my skinks are updated weekly via Instagram at: https://www.instagram.com/daves_skinks/?hl=enI

I got into breeding for the love of Blue Tongue Skinks; to get them into quality forever homes where they will be loved and respected their entire lives by a new generation of reptile enthusiasts. The first reptile that started it all was Herman, a leopard gecko for my 9th birthday in 2000. Starting research in 2005, Dinobot, the first Irian Jaya Blue Tongue, was welcomed into the family by 2007. Though I can not sell directly on Facebook, the skinks I sell can be found on the main website, http://davesskinks.com/ . Dave’s Skinks can also be found on the following reptile classified marketplaces:

I love connecting in person. Please let me know if you would like the skinks to appear at an event. Please let us know if you would like to be added to our baby waitlist, or list for emailed updates.

Don’t want to say we’ve produced some US Hypo Northerns (just yet) because babies tend to change so much by their adult form, but come awn 😱

This is year 8 of breeding Northerns specifically to w**d out the traditional dark side bands while boosting color vibrancy. No inbreeding btw. Just selecting adults and holdback babies to outcorss genetics who feature these desired traits.

100% of the remaining babies we’ve produced can be seen on https://davesskinks.com/for-sale/ . 79 babies seeking loving and forever homes in 2024 and this all that remains. Reach out if you’re ready for a Bluey in your life.

SEEKING ADVICE. I feel like I’ve failed this boy. Turner White. Came from a good home. He was kept in solitude except one breeding attempt where the female attacked him and nibbled off the tip of his tail. He had a good life. Was told he was non-aggressive until the breeding incident.

He’s been with me two years and has just never been happy. He eats all my food. Poops normal. Explores his enclosure. He’s just always so quick to snap and launch at you. Always with the mouth open ready to pounce if you try to remove the water bowl.

So I’m like, ya know, let’s get him out. Take him out for a few days just to roam and let him feel like he’s not a prisoner. See if maybe he just doesn’t like my tank. I find him after a few days. He’s cold. But I pick him up and he’s nice. No aggression. We go cheek to cheek. I’m like finally buddy, you’re happy!

The very second I put him back in his enclosure, he jumps, does a 180, mouth open, and charges. I only get out of the way at the last second. He bites down on the inner pvc lip of his enclosure and snaps some teeth. He’s dripping blood. He’s crying. Still mean. But he’s in pain. Let’s me pick him up. We rinse his bloody mouth. And even then, he still tries to snap at me again and bite.

I just don’t know what I’m doing wrong or what it would take to make him happy. His female friend he came with is doing really well. She’s nice. Even bred for me this season. I don’t want this guy to injure himself or anyone else.

Any pointers welcome.

So that’s why they call them a burrowing species. What a handsome mole-skink.

I will not personally be attending NARBC Schaumburg, IL this weekend but Toadally Frogs will be representing with a few of the Dave's Skinks skinks. Feel encouraged to handle them in person and make your purchase directly with Toadally Frogs or make arrangements with me now, before 4pm today, and see your future skink companion make it to your meet-and-greet at the Expo.

We're working on the new website. It's live. You can check it out. Still got some kinks to iron out. But you can have a gander as the final presage gradually takes center stage
