Hi everybody. I cannot thank you enough for the kind words, good wishes and compliments you gave us yesterday. My staff and I appreciate you so very much and are constantly uplifted by your generosity and support. Thank you.
Now as I like to say, back to business.
This is Jellybean. She’s about 11 years old, 14 pounds and a very happy and healthy pup! She was in a home whose woman is now in assisted living and could not take her with. She’s lived with another dog, will go outside and use a p*e pad inside and is cuddly as can be. Please email [email protected] to meet this cutie pie and I’ll set it up. xo.

I cannot believe I am writing this post.
On Monday late afternoon I got a text from our Medical Coordinator that Cakepop was looking kind of "p***y". If you don't work in animal welfare, that's the broad
term used when something just isn't quite right. She was put in a cage in Iso and we were watching her behavior and ins/outs.
She was cuddled up in bed resting comfortably and had eaten a good dinner.

To our shock and horror, Tuesday morning she was deceased.
I keep going back to these points in order to try to make myself feel better.
1- She came in a sh*tshow and has known nothing but love and kindness since the moment we met her.
2- She was in a safe and comfortable space and passed in her sleep
3- She would have died a painful and slow death on the streets if she didn't make her way to us

While all of these things are true, and I understand that we never knew of her genetic make up, we're destroyed in a way that only comes from giving your entire heart and soul and thinking you have a win.
Please send good thoughts and healing vibes to my staff at F&C. They work and love tirelessly and endlessly and every animal who crosses their paths is much luckier because of it.
Yesterday we got a reminder that rescue can take you on the highest highs and deliver the lowest blows on the same day and it's incredibly unfair.

Oh, people.
Last week, we met Huckleberry. Animal Control was called because he was being attacked by another dog. He had puncture wounds all over his head, snout, eyes and mouth. His face was so swollen we didn't think he would be able to eat. He is very clearly blind and we just learned that he will most likely need both of his eyes removed. He cannot currently see, but is remarkably upbeat and friendly. He keeps his kennel clean and stands by the door when he has to go potty. He is even really good with cats and other dogs. Just a happy go lucky pup who adores cuddling with his people.
I'm writing all of this for two reasons.
1- I'm going to need help paying for the surgery. I believe this will cost us in the $2-$3,000 range.
2- Once he's healed up, I'm going to need the best home ever for him. The resilience he's shown and the amnesia of that situation is nothing short of stunning. I will need you to help me find his forever family who will keep us all in updates.

This post is for people who have a cat or dog and wonder if it would be okay to bring a dog or cat in as a companion for them. No less than 15 times a day do I see these two yokels playing together like they're related. River, the cat, assimilates so much that I truly believe he thinks he's a dog. When I hand out chicken strips, he sits next to the three pups and I have to rip off tiny pieces for him, he tries to jump in the car whenever we go to work and will be in the middle of their play pile almost everytime.
If you're having issues with your only pet, get your animal an animal. It makes a world of difference and we're brilliant at making different species matches!

A cat of ours wound up at West Suburban Humane Society and needs a lift today or tomorrow back to F&C.
