Esme has become a familiar face for most, having been with us since 2018. Her contributions go far beyond assisting with surgeries and medical procedures. Esme also manages the Veterinary Assistants and oversees doctor and technician appointments, ensuring everything runs smoothly.
If you know Esme, then you know she loves to learn! Her passion for learning is very contagious, and it’s easy to see why the newer staff are drawn to her. Whether it’s answering seemingly random medical questions or encouraging both seasoned and new team members to stay curious, Esme fosters a culture of growth and continuous learning.

Have you met Crystal? If you've ever dropped off your pet, you probably have!

Crystal has been our RVT for over 4 years now! Time flies by when you're having a good time. Crystal would say she loves riding her horse, Cheyenne, and going to the gym. But she also loves animals of every kind, which is why she basically has a zoo! Besides cats and dogs, she also owns horses, chickens, emus (yes, you read that right), and a little green Lineolated Parakeet. She's the kind of person who will stop to pull a loose dog out of traffic. Her love for animals is truly unconditional. ❤️

One of our hospital projects was updating our big sign out front to reflect our current logo. During installation, we discovered an original wooden sign hidden underneath which is serving as a base for the new sign. Unfortunately, the condition of the wood is not good due to damage over decades, so replacing it will be our next project!

📸: Big thanks to 'Designs by Hannah' who helped us to redesign our logo to be "sign friendly"!

We're back!
The last several months, we've focused a lot on staff training and hospital remodeling. Many of you have seen the progress of the lobby, exam rooms, and front sign. We are so thrilled to offer our clients and their pets a more comfortable experience!

📸: This summer was SO HOT! La Flor helped us coordinate an ice cream social for our staff to cool off. You can see where we were working on the lobby ceiling in this photo too.

Any guesses for the next pet poison topic?
Rodenticides and pesticides! These products can be very tempting for pets, but they can also cause bleeding, seizures, and organ damage. Overall, we recommend using alternatives to poison whenever possible due to the risk of exposure to our beloved pets! However, if you are going to use them you should always follow the label instructions and store them in a safe place.

📸: Kylo is a big foodie, so his paw-rents are extra careful to keep any potential risks safely stored in places he can't access.

Let's talk about plants! Some plants can be toxic to pets, causing irritation, drooling, vomiting, and even organ failure. Check out the ASPCA's guide of toxic plants before buying any plants or flowers for your home. That bouquet of flowers might not be the best purchase if it contains lilies!

Happy 13th birthday Pricilla!! 🌻

Pricilla is ready to party and celebrate the first day of spring. As the world bursts into bloom during spring, it's crucial for pet owners to be mindful of potential hazards lurking amidst the beauty.

Many common plants that adorn gardens and parks can be toxic to our feline friends if ingested. Keep cats away from flowers such as lilies or tulips, as well as plants like azaleas, foxglove, and lily of the valley. Visit our website's Client Corner to view a more detailed list of plants to keep your pets away from.

If you believe your pet has ingested a toxic plant, then contact the 24/7 Animal Poison Control Center at (855) 764-7661 and your veterinarian right away!

Happy Leap Day!
Today's Pet of the Week is Chloe😸
Chloe is 5-month-old DSH (domestic shorthair) kitten. She is a total love bug. Her mom says that Chloe is very verbal and will "talk"! Of course, every kitten needs a favorite toy to latch onto. In Chloe's case, her favorite toy is a little orange scrunchie with ears. How purr-fect! Nothing beats chasing the older cats though. It's the youngest sibling's most important job! 😅

Meet Sophie!

This week's Pet of the Week is little miss Sophie! She is an adorable 3-year-old miniature Poodle with a smile that melts hearts. Even sweeter, her mom let us know that she can say, “I love you” !!! 😭❤ Sophie loves to spend her days playing with her tiny Santa stuffy, as well as visiting the creek to play.

📸: Seriously, that smile is soooo cute!

Do you or your dog hate taking/giving heartworm prevention once a month? 😫

It can be tough to remember monthly medications for your dog, and heartworm disease is a year-round threat. Cut the hassle with ProHeart 12! ProHeart 12 is a yearly injection prescribed and administered by a veterinarian to help prevent heartworm disease and intestinal parasites.

How do my pets get infected with heartworm? The short answer is mosquitos. Mosquitos can infect pets with heartworm from a single bite. An infected mosquito will bite the animal and infect it with heartworm larvae. The heartworm then matures and lives in vessels in and around the heart. It can take about 6 months for the heartworm to be detectable in routine testing. We recommend testing annually to catch this nasty parasite before the disease is too far progressed.

If you’re interested in starting ProHeart 12 for your canine companion, please contact our hospital for a consultation!

Fun fact: Heartworms can grow up to a foot in length! 😱
