A no-kill, 100% volunteer ran, cat shelter dedicated to rescuing, providing care and love, and rehoming abandoned domesticated cats in Chico, CA. We are a non-profit, no kill and all-volunteer organization previously with a mission to rescue and rehome abandoned and surrendered adoptable cats in the greater Chico area. When we were founded in 1997, our goal was to rescue, house, and rehome the ver

y large cat colony in lower Bidwell Park. Over the years, we removed over 1000 cats from the park, and have adopted out over 700 cats. These rescues benefit the cats and the people of Chico who use and enjoy the park. Had these cats not been trapped and altered, the feline population in that area would have grown tremendously over the last decade, leading to an unhealthy and hazardous situation for all. The second kitty we would like to remember is our dear Dexter. He was another of our Park kitties, a life-long sanctuary resident at the Chico Cat Coalition and brother of Hopper. Dexter was one of our shiest, quietest kitties who preferred to spend his days lounging in the sun in the catio. He was a big brother and protector of some of our sanctuary ladies, including Jasmine, Tina, and Sharona. Until the end, he was Sharona’s best friend and confidant, always snuggled together or making jokes about the silly hoomans who delivered their food. 😸

While Dexter wasn’t enamored with human company, he let us near on occasion to partake of a tasty Churu or a chicken Temptations treat. Dexter was a beautiful gentleman, an all-black mini-panther who roamed the shelter with a quiet grace and a confidence that he was safe and at home. While it’s hard to see his “spot” on the catio empty these days, he was loved until his last moments, and we know he is now out of pain and into sunny fields and unlimited snacks.

Roam free, dear boy. We'll see you over the rainbow. 🌈

There are many things we are looking forward to at the CCC this season, including the return of Open Shelter Hours and our upcoming auction, but there have also been a few very sad moments. For those new to following us, the CCC began in the late 1990s as a mixed sanctuary/rescue for cats in Bidwell Park, many of whom were tame enough to be rescued but were never ready for a human home.

While our shelter operates a bit differently these days, these Park cats have become known as our residents, and they are beloved members of our shelter whom we’ve promised to love and care for their whole lives. Unfortunately, as time passes, these kitties in our long-term care also age. This past month, we’ve lost two of our dear residents.

The first we would like to remember is sweet Pearl. At 17, she lived a long and very cozy life at the shelter, choosing to spend most of her days hanging out with her brother Cloudy, napping in cat beds, or napping with other friends. Did we mention she liked to nap? She was also quite a connoisseur of treats and Churu snacks, and she had a purr that could rumble through the whole shelter. She liked humans enough to enjoy a good head scratch and gentle brushing, but otherwise preferred to cat loaf wherever the day took her.

These last few weeks, we keep looking for her when breakfast is set out, as she was one of the first to inspect the flavor choices. We are happy she is out of pain and now chasing snacks and cozy blankets with her brother over the rainbow. Pearl, you are dearly, dearly missed. ❤️🐈

Wonderful News for Taffy!

After more than two years in our care, our sweet Taffy has finally found her chance at a furrrever home! She recently went into a foster-to-adopt home, and it’s going GREAT so far!

Taffy has waited patiently for love and stability, and we are overjoyed to see her finally getting the life she deserves. We can’t wait to watch her story unfold!

Thank you to her amazing foster mom for opening her hearts to Taffy. And thank you to everyone who supports us so cats like her can all have their happy tales! 🐈
