🐩 Poodles will doodle anything, and we’ve got the proof! 🐩

Meet our adorable Golden Retriever mixed mix puppies, all named after frogs—much to the dismay of one of our employees who’s absolutely terrified of them! 🐸 These fluffballs need to find homes soon to keep her stress levels down.

Say hello to Tomato Frog, Vietnamese Mossy Frog, Marbled Reed Frog, Giant Ditch Frog, Fire-Bellied Toad, Banded Bullfrog, and Goliath Frog—all 8-week-old bundles of joy. These little ones were surrendered as part of our "Fresh Start Program," ensuring that mom won't be doodling anything else in the future!

If you’d like to meet one of these cuties, stop by during business hours. And please, for the love of all things fluffy, spay/neuter your pets so our staff can stop coming up with these names! 😉

Today, we celebrate our loyal, loving, and playful companions who make our lives brighter every day. Whether it's the wag of a tail when you walk through the door, the comfort they bring during tough times, or the endless joy of watching them play, dogs truly are our best friends.

We’re privileged to care for so many amazing dogs and see them on to their new amazing home. From energetic puppies to wise seniors, we probably have a friend for everyone.

Duke is an 8-month-old golden retriever/labrador retriever mix who is eager to find his forever home. He was previously in a foster home, but it wasn’t the right time for them to adopt. Duke is a bit anxious and can be startled by quick movements, sometimes resulting in alarm barking. He also has a tendency to steal food from the counter.

Despite these quirks, Duke adores kids and is very affectionate, often sticking close to his people. Unfortunately, it seems that he was mostly disciplined by the male figure in his previous home, which has likely contributed to some of his anxiety and wariness, especially around men. However, he has interacted appropriately with both men and women while in his foster home.

We also had Duke's brother, who was so ill-adjusted to shelter life that he was thankfully taken in by a rescue where he can take the time he needs to decompress. Duke, on the other hand, went pretty quickly into a foster home which didn't end up being quite the right fit but is now ready to find his perfect match. With a little patience, some training, and possibly anti-anxiety medication, Duke will make a wonderful companion.

Adoption Tails Update: Charlie (fka Kilimanjaro)

"We adopted Charlie (fka Kilimanjaro) in 2021 when he was only 10 weeks old. He was the last left of his litter and had received no applications. His litter had a rough start as they were found in a basket behind a dollar general. The entire litter developed Parvo and not everyone was lucky enough to survive.

Charlie is a happy, healthy boy! He turns 3 on August 5th, and we can't wait to celebrate! He's silly, friendly, loving, and always by our side."

Odie is the last one left in his litter, and he’s still hanging out with us. The difference in his growth and appearance since he came in is wild! At just 12 weeks old, Odie has already spent a third of his life in a kennel. As he matures, he's starting to show more shepherd-like physical characteristics, and his ears are doing all sorts of adorable things.

Queen Lillian was dog tested with another friendly dog. She was initially nervous, but once she relaxed, she did well. She even went into "typical hound mode," becoming more interested in people than the other dog! At 4 years old and around 50 pounds, Queen Lillian is a sweet and friendly girl.

She’s been with us for 60 days now with absolutely no interest from adopters or rescues, and we’re not sure why. With her loving personality, we know she’ll make a great companion for someone out there.

Stacey did great during her dog testing and was eager to play. She’s a super energetic, playful girl who might be a bit much at times—she’s been known to try and climb people, and let's just say she’s got a lot of energy to burn! On the upside, Stacey is usually quiet and clean in her kennel, and she’s housebroken too.

At around 10 months old, Stacey is still a young girl with some growing to do. If you’re looking for a lively, loving, and sometimes goofy companion, Stacey might just be the perfect match.

Pelican is a goofy, playful guy who just loves to have fun! He was dog-tested with Hawk (who has already been adopted) and immediately wanted to play. He might be a bit lacking in the brains department, but that just makes him even more endearing. We even use him to test some of the more questionable dogs because of his easygoing nature.

Pelican has been with us for over a month, and we really don’t know why. He’s young, friendly, and great with other dogs. At 46 pounds, he’s not too big, not too small—just the right size and sturdy too! If you’re looking for a lovable, playful companion, Pelican might be the one for you.

We have a big ask. If you've been around any amount of time you know that we lose power out here ALL THE TIME. Most everyone has experienced the results of power failure in their homes - loss of air conditioning in the heat of summer and we know how hot this summer was. The heating in the winter - a few years ago in freezing temps we lost power for around a week. We were fortunate enough to have partners at that time who temporarily held a lot of our dogs for us but that isn't always the case and when this stuff happens, it negatively effects the dogs as well as the staff.

If each Friend of the Humane Society contributed just a $3-4 dollars towards the project, we could purchase equipment that will solve what has been a major issue at the shelter. We are hoping to incorporate generators in our new building. How satisfying would it be knowing that you have helped dogs who, without us, may have no voice. Consider donating.

Candy Bar is as sweet as her name implies! We believe this girl is a lab mix, but she's also lean and leggy like a Great Dane. At only 43 pounds and 1 year old, it’s probably safe to say that if there’s any Great Dane DNA in there, it’s like .09%.

Candy Bar was found in the woods by a friend of the shelter. She did well with their dogs before coming to us, and she’s continued to do well with the dogs here. She would really benefit from having a well-mannered, friendly dog to help teach her some social skills, which she’s still learning. Candy Bar is healing up from some wounds that look like they might be road rash, but she’ll be as good as new in no time.

We need you to stop what you're doing and come RIGHT now to adopt this cutie! We've named her Clarice, and she’s a 14-week-old pit bull mix with a heart-shaped nose that has us all swooning. But what doesn’t have us swooning is her “pit bull” screeching—Clarice wants us to know she’s not happy about her accommodations and craves attention NOW.

While we find it endearing, it’s clear that it’s time for Clarice to find a home where she doesn’t spend her days kenneled. She’s a very friendly, social girl who would make a great addition to a family looking for an adorable pit bull mix.

Are you old? Do you also love old dogs? Are you young and love old dogs? Either way, Grumpy is looking for you!

This sweet soul is a 13 ½-year-old Cocker Spaniel, and while we don’t expect his time here to be measured in years, he’s still got some life left in him. Grumpy came to us as a stray, and despite being microchipped, he wasn’t reclaimed. He’s indifferent to other dogs but will come to people for attention. With those classic old dog eyes, a few lumps and bumps, and sadly, missing most of his hair, Grumpy’s golden years should be much more golden than they’ve been so far.

The good news is that he’s landed with us, and now we’re bringing him to you. We want to set clear expectations—you’re not getting a young, healthy dog. This is a 13-year-old pup with an unknown history. While Grumpy doesn’t seem to have any outward or obvious illnesses aside from the aforementioned lumps and bumps, he has not had a full workup with a vet either. As we say more often than we should, Grumpy is probably here for a good time, not a long time.

Grumpy deserves to spend whatever time he has left with a loving family. While we adore him, we’d like his journey not to end with us in the shelter. If you’re willing to open your heart and home to this sweet old Cocker Spaniel, give us a call. Tails is a 3-year-old, 23lb suspected Shiba Inu mix, and she's got the personality to prove it. She’s a smart, independent dog with a bit of a stubborn streak, as Shiba Inu mixes often are. Tails came to us as a stray, and while she can be affectionate, she’s also selective about who she warms up to. Some of us at the shelter have earned her favor, while others she prefers to keep at a distance.

Tails is spirited and bold, making her a great match for someone who appreciates a dog with a mind of her own. If you're looking for a unique, loyal companion, Tails might be the perfect fit.

Toast is still with us and continues to be an amazing dog, but he just hasn't found the right fit yet. This playful, medium-to-high-energy boy loves adventures, whether it's a trip to Lowes, the farmers market, or a good run. He's great with other dogs, has been fine with cats, and is receiving top-notch training from his foster, a professional dog trainer. Toast also recently showed off his skills by teaching 3rd graders about dogs, dog training, and dog care, proving to be the perfect ambassador for shelter dogs.

At the end of an exciting day, Toast loves to snuggle up and be your lapdog, as long as he’s had his fill of playtime. He would be perfect for an active person or family who enjoys the outdoors. He's also non-reactive to other dogs in public and loves being with his people.

🐾 Meet Julia – Our Breakdancing Queen! 🐾

We’re still in shock that Julia’s epic breakdancing video didn’t go viral last week! This petite 35lb bundle of joy is looking for her forever home, and we can’t believe she hasn’t been snatched up yet.

Julia is crazy in the absolute best way! She’s full of personality, loves doing “low butt” zoomies all over, and twisting in circles is her favorite pastime. This super friendly girl is always up for some fun and LOVES PEOPLE. She’ll gladly sit in your lap, and she’s the perfect size for cuddling.

She’s also great with other dogs and loves to play. We believe she may be housebroken, and she knows how to sit and takes treats gently.

🚐 Help Us Keep Our Wheels Rolling for the Dogs! 🚐

After 7 years of dedicated service, our donated 2005 Toyota Sienna has reached the end of its road. We’re now on the lookout for a van or medium-sized SUV to continue our mission of helping the dogs in our care. Ideally, we’d love a smaller Sprinter van, but we can't be too choosy at this point. We’re hoping for something less than 5 years old and in good running condition.

Our van is essential for transporting dogs to partner rescues, vet appointments, assisting the dog warden with large cases, and traveling dogs and equipment to events. This vehicle is crucial for our operations, and we rely on it to provide the best care and support for our furry friends.

We understand this is a specific request, but we believe that somewhere out there, someone—whether an individual or a car dealership—might be ready to make a difference. If you have a suitable van or SUV, we’d love to hear from you!

If you don’t have a vehicle but still want to help, consider making a donation toward the purchase of one. We may need to buy a vehicle if a suitable donation doesn’t come through, and every contribution will bring us closer to keeping our mission on the road.

We’re not seeking older vehicles at this time, and we hope you understand our need for something relatively new to ensure we continue providing safe and reliable transportation. Whether you’re a community-minded individual or a dealership owner who values supporting local causes, we’d be thrilled to partner with you.

Meet Josie McCoy, the redbone hound mix with the most soulful brown eyes and the longest velvet ears you’ve ever seen! Josie arrived with the Pitoodle crew, and we just can’t get over how adorable she is. At 5 years old, Josie is the perfect age—past the puppy shenanigans but still ready for plenty of fun adventures.

She’s done well with other dogs and is as friendly as can be with people. Josie is patiently waiting to meet someone who can’t resist those pleading eyes and is ready to give her the loving home she deserves.

Introducing Betty Spaghetti and Princess Poppy Troll, our two-year-old sibling duo with a one-of-a-kind backstory! These sisters came to us along with five other dogs, and without passing judgment, let’s just say they’re the result of an accidental litter between a doodle and the neighbor’s pit bull mix.

Betty is the bigger sister at 58 lbs, while Princess is a petite 38 lbs—proof that genetics can be pretty wild. Both have wiry coats that suggest they might shed a little less than your typical bully breed, but don’t hold us to that! They’re both incredibly friendly and tested well with other dogs, making them perfect candidates for a home with furry siblings.

We had a busy day yesterday, taking in over 15 dogs, and now we need to find some loving homes to keep things manageable for both our staff and the dogs. These adorable puppies are ready and waiting to meet their new families!

Both parents are appeared to be pit mixes, but what they’re mixed with is anyone’s guess—maybe you’ll be up for a DNA test to solve the mystery. At around 8-9 weeks old, these pups are as friendly and social as they come. Two of them have a stunning champagne color, and the brindle one is absolutely gorgeous.

Remember, puppies are a lot of fun but they’re also a lot of work—they’ll need housetraining, manners, and socialization to grow into well-behaved dogs. If you’re ready to take on the challenge and the joy of raising a puppy, stop by during business hours to meet these little ones. They can’t wait to find their forever homes!

Meet Cash, a 9-year-old jack Russel or rat terrier mix who's ready to start the next chapter of his life! At just 17 pounds, this little guy has lived with birds, a "tiny dino," kids, and other dogs, so he's well-versed in sharing his space. Cash is housebroken, crate trained, and definitely a bit on the needy side—he loves being close to his people.
