Dog opens locked door to escape humane society kennel
Dog opens door and lets himself out of the shelter.
This guy was really not interested in hanging out in the shelter and decided to take matters into his own hands after we closed. If this is your dog, he'd love for you to come and pick him up from us.
Did you know that we are building a new, dog proof shelter with doors that dogs can't open? We are and we are almost at the end! We just need your help to raise the last $500,000 to have it completely paid for! You can donate any of the following ways:

HAPPY TAILS
We're not crying, you're crying.
"I first saw Jordan on a facebook post on your page. I sent it to my mom right away and said that I needed him! He was the odd one out of his litter because he was the only tan one and I loved it!! I went to visit him and fell in love. He soon came home with me, but what I didnāt know was that he was about to become alllll the puppy terrors we know too well. From tearing up the leather couch (not once but twice) to pooping on top of it, he was still the best thing to ever happen to me.
He got me through my senior year and has gotten me through a move to a different state and college. Heās been there the whole way. Heās definitely got a personality, his pictures will show it!!
Now, heās the best hiking dog, who runs a few yards away and stop to look back to make sure iām still coming to pushing buttons to tell me he wants a treat! Heās so smart and the best buddy ever! Jordan would probably say his favorite thing is sunbathing and running in the field and of course treats! Hereās my favorite ever video with him!! Heās my soul pup."

Since we were short staffed today I was able to do some duties I donāt typically do and wanted to share with you a very abbreviated version of what a morning looks like for some of the shelter staff.
š¾ Help Us Keep Dogs Out of Shelters! š¾
Hey, amazing pet community! š We need your support and collaboration now more than ever. š¾
š Lately, we've been noticing a rise in surrender requests coupled with a decrease in adoptions. We understand the challenging decisions many families are facing during these times.
But here's where we can make a difference together: our goal is to keep dogs out of the shelter system, especially for those facing rehoming. This ensures we have space available for strays and dogs with urgent circumstances. š”ā¤ļø
š” Self-Rehoming Solutions:
We're here to offer solutions! Utilizing platforms like **hometohome.org**, **rescueme.org**, **rehome.adoptapet.com**, and **petclassifieds.com** can connect you directly with potential adopters. These self-rehoming websites allow you to find a loving home for your pet while avoiding the stress of the shelter environment.
We're happy to assist when we can, but our collective effort can make a massive impact. Let's work together to ensure every dog finds a loving home, whether it's through us or with the help of these self-rehoming platforms.
š¶ How You Can Help:
1. Share this message to spread awareness.
2. Consider adopting or fostering if you're able.
3. Direct those in need to the self-rehoming platforms mentioned above.
Together, we can keep tails wagging and hearts happy. šš If you have any questions or need guidance, feel free to reach out. Let's be the community that cares and makes a real difference. šš¾ #rosscountyhumanesociety #chillicotheohio #shelterdogs

With adoptions at a low, animals are feeling the impact. š¾ Urgent Help Needed for Nectarine! š¶
Nectarine has been with us for far too long, growing up in a kennel. Sadly, she's facing mobility issues, and it's time for her to find a loving home or foster care. Continuing to house her in a kennel with no prospects for adoption will be inhumane.
š” Can you open your heart and home to Nectarine, even if just temporarily?
š Call the shelter at 740-775-6808 or visit us before 4 PM today to provide her with a soft place to stay until her vet appointment next week.
2023 has been tough for animal welfare, and there are more dogs like Nectarine than there are homes. Together, we can make a difference in her life.
Please, we are begging, spay/neuter your pets.
Please share this post far and wide to help Nectarine find the care and love she deserves. šš #SaveNectarine #RescueDog #ChillicothePets #rosscountyhumanesociety

Teamwork for the win. Our friends at Cats & Company reached out to ask if we could get a kitten with a severely injured back leg on our Rascal Unit clinic coming up. We reached out and Rascal said not to wait and to bring it first thing Monday morning.
Then this morning we got a call about a kitten that was injured that likely needed euthanized. A staff member who lived near the area went to pick the kitten up to help end its suffering but when we got there we decided that he might be able to be saved. He was purring and happy despite having an injury to his back leg so bad we had to blur it out.
We would like to help both of these cats and are hoping to raise $1000 which will cover surgery for both kittens. They are also going to need fosters while they heal from amputation.
Will you help us help them?

We were contacted by a sister shelter a few weeks ago about a young cavalier King Charles spaniel left at a vets office needing her eye removed. We reached out to some partner shelters and possible adopters to see if they could assist.
Iris is healed up and heading to her new home in Pennsylvania in a couple days. Donations, fosters, veterinary partnerships, transporters and supporters made this happen.
Ask us how you can get involved to help save lives!
