Thankful I got a sunny day to spend at the beach with my kids. Fort Worden is our favorite spot to make driftwood forts, and this was the window in the one we built yesterday. One hell of a view..now time to get back to work!

Are they free range? Well pretty much-although I have to net them so the eagles don’t eat them. I’ve made this livestock trailer into a mobile coop, which I can just hook to the tractor and move about the farm-giving the girls (and boy) loads of fresh grazing without the danger of being eagle snacks..thank you for the beautiful pictures!!!

It’s that time of year!! Give me a call or message me and I’ll come remove bee swarms for free (OlyPen vicinity) and give them a good home on the farm with loads of dandelions, orchard trees, and blackberries to pollinate and make delicious local honey-I can also deal with wasp and hornet problems, average $100 per housecall. Also have local honey, raw beeswax, beekeeping equipment, and extractor service available.

Anyone who knows me, knows I give more than I take, share what I have, and help whenever I can. And I need help now. I’m trying to raise funds for an attorney to help me keep this farm I’ve been growing for the last five years, from a previous partners desire to sell it. I have an excellent case, but it’s gonna cost some dineros to make it happen. All I want to do is keep the roof over my head, as well as the three other folks that call the farm home, and continue to share, teach, and grow good food for my community. ✊ Please, if you can, support the fight to keep this dream alive. 🌾 Your contribution matters.

Thank you my wonderful community for your support and encouragement. I appreciate each and every one of you. Without you I would not be able to do what I love, in a place I cherish, and give my efforts back to this amazing place. And good news about the Kim-chi, it’s being added to my food producer license next month so it will soon be in a shop near you! ❤️🙏🏽

I’m very much looking forward to the opportunity to host this learning circle in May. Please share this post with any female or non binary military veterans in your circle and see if they’d like to join us. Thank you!

On January 20 I’ll be doing a hand drum making workshop here at Gray Fox Farm. We will start around 11am and should finish by 3pm. We will be making a one sided hand drum. All materials will be provided, as well as sharing stories about the historic importance and place of drums within tribal communities. Registration is required to reserve your spot, class size is very limited. I’m asking $200. I will be purchasing the handmade cedar drum frames from another tribal member, but the hides we will be using have been processed and tanned by me, ethically harvested as well as salvaged from local hunters. Feel free to pm me for signup or check the website www.grayfoxfarmwa.com

Blue Ribbon award winners this year were
Extracted honey
Four Berry Jam
Candy Apple Jelly
Candied Jalapeños
Blackberry Thai Chili
Pears in Syrup
Deer Chili
(Not all are in the pic)
I got quite a few 2nd ribbons by a single point, and you can go ahead and make the joke now, but I got docked a point for not having the proper ‘headspace’, lesson learned for next year…

It’s almost blueberry season here at the farm and while I was looking at all the numbers, I came across this on the Mayo Clinic page:

Often labeled a "superfood," the blueberry is bursting with nutrients, many of which are classified as antioxidants and phytochemicals.

Much of the power of blueberries lies in their colors. The deep-blue hue comes from anthocyanin, a phytochemical whose abilities may help protect the body from heart disease and Type 2 diabetes, offering cancer-fighting benefits, promote gut health and reduce inflammation. Research also suggests regularly eating blueberries may improve memory and delay age-related cognitive decline.

A one-cup serving of blueberries contains 25% of the recommended daily value for vitamin C and 4 grams of dietary fiber, but only 80 calories. Plus, blueberries are juicy fruits, which means they contain mostly water. That high water content makes them great for weight loss or maintenance because they fill you up quickly without a lot of calories.

And Gray Fox Farm is now nationally recognized by the Certified Naturally Grown program, which is a program for farmers who want to grow with completely organic standards, with on site inspections by other natural producers. This program is run by agricultural producers, and not a government entity. I am more comfortable with the amount of accountability with my peers, than I am with govt agencies, and I am super excited to have passed the inspections, record keeping, and best practices management and on site visits ❤️ (this certification covers the blueberries, fruits, other produce, and even my honey producing bees!) you can read more about CNG at www.naturallygrown.org
