We attended the spring NALC Show & Trial this past weekend in Mississippi with Roux, Pepper, Hoss, Hattie, and Creek.

We had a great time competing with our dogs and visiting with great friends. Our dogs enjoy these weekends so much, as do we!

Roux, Pepper, Hoss, and Creek all got to compete in B-bay. Each did well and were very focused on the hog. We were very happy with the performance of our two-year-old bred-by boy, Hoss, who also called out after each run. Roux could not be caught after her run, per usual. This was Creek’s first time competing and he did excellent for only being a year old. We are excited for his bright future!

Pepper and Roux also competed in the treeing event and we were pleased with how they did.

Four-year-old Rory showed Roux in junior showmanship again and had a blast.

Each dog was also shown in conformation.

Placements:
LA Copperhead’s Hoss
High Point Male, B-bay
4th place, one dog B-bay
3rd place, 2 and older Hip certified conformation class

Rocking M’s Tabasco
3rd, one dog B-bay

Rocking M’s Roux
4th, senior female conformation class

LA Copperhead’s Creek
3rd, one year and older never sired a litter conformation class (class of 15)

Had a nice little hunting trip this past weekend and although we didn’t get on any pigs this time it was still good to see the dogs work and get the kids out into the woods! We had 4 intact males running together on Sunday and they did great.
Time spent in the woods with dogs is never time wasted! Thankful for our awesome friends for taking us out.

UPDATE: she has been placed.

A friend of ours is looking to rehome a very nicely bred NALC gyp. She is the piebald puppy in the picture, although she is a few years old now. She initially went to a tracking home who then got out of dogs and placed her in a pet home- which isn’t where she belongs. She could make somebody a great working prospect! Her dam is a sibling to Roux and Pepper.

Please PM with any questions and for those truly interested, I am happy to send you the info for my friend so you can be in contact. Thanks!

Finally have a minute to post results from the fall NALC show in south Louisiana! We had a great time with some of our wonderful friends and their impressive dogs. This was probably one of our favorite shows yet!

Conformation placements:
Creek: 1st place, 9-12 month males
Hoss: 3rd place, 1 year and older never sired a litter (this was a big class!)
Roux: 3rd place, Hip-certified females
And finally…
Pepper got a 1st place in a HUGE class of year and older females and went onto to win BEST IN SHOW FEMALE!
There were so many beautiful, correct dogs in this lineup so we were thrilled! I’ve always liked how Pepper is put together and we were blessed that the judge was of the same opinion!

Rory (3 years old) showed Roux in Pre-Jr Showmanship and did a great job stacking and gaiting her, answering questions, and following directions. She had so much fun!

Treeing:
Roux was in the Top Ten again this year and remained there after this trial. She didn’t have the greatest Nationals run but we are always happy to be in Top Ten.

Pepper and Roux snagged a 3rd place in 2-dog treeing. Pepper may make a tree dog after all, with a bit of practice and some maturing. We are happy to finally give Roux a more solid and consistent treeing partner.

B-bay:
Hoss went in and was doing well, but I elected to call him out when he was distracted by some scents. He did come right out to me. I think he has a bright future.
Josey will need a bit of work, but she is still a puppy and needs to gain some confidence. She improved during her two-dog run with Hoss.
Pepper and Roux both had great one-dog and two-dog runs. Roux has a lot of drive and intensity but has a ton of circle, which some judges like and some hate.

Roux started at the number 19 spot in B-bay and her runs managed to bump her up to number ten, earning her first B-bay Top Ten placement! After the Nationals run, Roux earned herself a 4th Place. We were pretty darn proud of her!

Several of our good friends also had a successful weekend, with high point wins, high placements, and buckle wins. We are really thankful to be surrounded by such impressive people and dogs! Can’t wait until the spring show.

This old willow has been our faithful ‘treeing tree’ as long as we’ve lived here. Grateful for its help getting tuned up for the NALC treeing trials each time!

In the photo is our young dog Rocking M’s Tabasco ‘Pepper’. I wouldn’t call her a tree dog by any stretch, but hoping she will do well this coming weekend! 🦝

I just love how this gal is built. Compact, quick and athletic but definitely not fragile. She turned 2 in March.

Sweet Comanche went to his new home yesterday. He is already very loved! Just because a dog will not be bred does not mean they aren’t valuable and it does not mean they aren’t deserving of the absolute best home. A ‘cull’ to some could be somebody else’s lifelong best friend.

Roux got two legs toward her UKC Grand Championship yesterday, on her birthday!

She won her champion class twice, got one Best of Breed, and then received a Group 2 placement in the Herding group.

Although she HATES showing, she did great. We are proud of her!

Since his previous placement has decided that they feel a puppy is a little too much for them right now (although they loved him for the few days they had him!), Comanche is up for placement.

Comanche was born 12/14/2022. He is a medium-energy boy with a ton of personality. He gets so excited he ‘snorts’, loves to run and play, and is very smart. He’s done great with potty training, crate training, and basic training.

Unfortunately, he was born with an overbite. This can be genetic, but is also something that just happens sometimes. His sire and dam have scissor bites, as do his littermates, as do his half siblings on both sides.

Comanche had his mandibular canines pulled the day he turned 8 weeks old so they would not damage his hard palate, and also to allow his jaw to grow to its full potential. He may need his adult mandibular canines pulled, shortened, or ‘moved’ when they come in, but it’s impossible to say now.

Comanche’s overbite does not affect him functionally in any way. He eats fine, drinks fine, plays fine. He has no problem taking treats or picking up kibble off the floor from his kong wobbler.

That being said, he will have the overshot bite listed on his NALC blue papers and checked off that he cannot be bred. This dog will have a neutering requirement.

Comanche is offered to a new home at no cost. He will make someone a great companion, active hiking partner, farm dog, or even a blood trailing dog. He loves our 3-year-old little girl and likes to have a playmate to wrestle with.

Comanche is microchipped and up-to-date on his vaccines and is on heartworm prevention. He has had lots of handling and socialization.

Please PM me if you are interested in making him your new buddy.

After doing some evaluation of her temperament and telling some folks ‘No’, Chickasaw is available to a hunting/ working/ trial home ONLY. She is not suitable as just a family pet and I’m fairly certain she would eat your couch if she doesn’t have an outlet.

This lovely girl would excel as a hog dog or do well hunting other large or small game.
She would also make a handy ranch dog/cow dog.
She could also very likely make somebody a nice bay pen dog.
She’s got nice conformation and is easy on the eyes. I think she would do well in the show ring if you were so inclined. ‘Chicky’ really is the full package.

Please PM me for info. If your first question is ‘how much?’, you won’t be hearing back.
