Ava has a little bit more pep in her step today. She’s shedding her winter coat slowly. But look how bright and angelic her face is. She hanging tough with the girls. Typically she was with Charlie so much that he was a buffer. They’ve been butting her away from eating with them. But Ava still eats. It’s getting warmer over here in Texas. Is hot where you live?

Once three now two. How do you recover? The kiddos are doing better than human. I need to cry for a week. Then sleep for a week. There often isn’t time for that when you run a sanctuary. Moving forward is filled with challenges that can crumble even the strongest of humans. I feel like I’ve changed over the years of dealing with loss.

Animal moms don’t get to choose who they mate with. If this animal is part of modern agricultural processes, they have zero choice but continuous lifetime pregnancy. Once these animals give birth, it’s inherently part of their nature to love, nourish, and nurture their child. As it stands, animal moms are also not allowed this privilege as their babies are taken away so their bodies can continue to be used for commercial gain. As human women have choice, for the most part, we must stand up for animals who aren’t given the same. Motherhood is more than procreation. Celebrate mothers for the right reason. Not because you were allowed to exist through her, but because of who moms represent as life givers and unique individuals who also have a dream for themselves.

A Humble Little Farm

The dream had always been to find a little piece of dirt so that we could start to save animals. We wanted to provide a home, a safe place, a love story for all of the little creatures that needed a family, acceptance, nurturing. Our number one rule is that we treat each other like we love each other. Amazingly, every animal that has been saved over the last two years have adopted each other as family. They play, they eat, they drink, they forage, they graze, they rest all together as a loving unit. Every animal has a unique personality and quirks and they all deserved to be treated better than they were in their previous lives. At Cloven Heart, we are all about restoring dignity to their lives, saving them from abuse, neglect, slaughter, and healing their broken bodies and souls. Animals are used. Period. Their bodies and their spirits are wrecked by a civilization that believes they have the right to. Worldwide, there is an epidemic of cruelty towards animals. We hope to change the world. We hope to change a life. By saving these animals, we are showing them that although they were hurt they can heal and be strong again, that although they were used they can find peace and respect, that although they were abandoned they are loved and can trust again, that although they were sad and confused by the cruelty of their previous life, at Cloven Heart they are safe and have a loving home and for the rest of their lives they will know nothing but love, happiness, and family.
