shakira ran in her 3rd race last night! after 6 months of not racing, i’m so proud of her! now that we’re correct and calm we can add speed in⚡️

hey guys! i wanted to start posting more videos of my training process so this is one of my favorite drills to do! i’ve heard it called many things but i call it the straight barrel drill. when i do this with my horses i focus on making sure they stay balanced in their circle and use their body correctly. if your horse has never done this before it’s important to start slow, maybe a walk and build up to loping it. as the rider it’s extremely important to make sure you keep your eyes where you want to go and keep your body square. with shakira in particular i focus on keeping her hip in. i use pressure and release with my outside leg to make sure she uses her body correctly while also keeping her shoulder up and not letting her dive into the circle. if you’re local and interested in hauling to me for a lesson dm me and we can get you scheduled! or if you’re interested in reserving a stall for training in may dm me!
