A race at Golden Gate Fields in February 1989, ended in rather extraordinary fashion. As the horses neared the finish line, a horse named Sweetwater Oak came up on the outside of the leader but stumbled badly, flipping her rider, Nate Hubbard, out of the saddle in the process. To every ones amazement he hung on around the horses neck and crossed the line to be declared the winner as his feet did not touch the ground.

There's a story behind this photo. These horses came in wild... the only human touch after being rounded up was the vaccinations, freeze branding, etc.
This mare slowly approached me and once my hand touched her she relaxed and chose to stand there with me. Not petting... just holding my hand on her forehead. It was one of the most peacefull experiences I can remember... just standing and talking to her. I don't know what trauma or all the battles she had encoutered but I do know she responded to kindness and peace.

This is the original 2012 promo video from Arizona Correctional Industries when we started the wild horse and b***o program. What a change from the makeshift temp corrals to what it became. Chris, one of the inmates featured in the video, is a regular at cowboy church (along with his wife Rochelle) and will be helping this coming Sunday.

Video Team
Since the cowboy church service is often more of an illustration with a horse, we use video to record the services. We have good video cameras but need a couple more people on the team. If you have some basic camcorder experience or are willing to learn please let me know. This would primarily be for Florence cowboy church but we occasionally have church at other locations.
We can do the editing but need the video and photos.

I am excited about kicking off this coming season of Florence Cowboy Church services.
The first service will be a special continuation of last November's service where we met Moonshot.
That service message was "Building a Foundation for Life". Moonshot will be back after a year of training and the message will be "Building a Life of Purpose".
Whitlow Rodeo Grounds is 2 miles south of Florence on Hwy 79. There will be signs for cowboy church as you approach the entrance. Come early and join us for coffee and donuts.

This scripture was written almost 2,000 years ago and I cannot think of a time where it is more appropriate.
I am well aware that we live in a day where everyone seems to be easily offended but I believe we have to become less concerned about who we may offend and who we may inspire.

I am looking forward to this fall through spring cowboy church. It has been a long summer.
Starbuck and I are ready to see some friends and focus on God transforming lives through Christ.
This year we will start a week later than normal
